Angie Wells

I stepped out of the office and encountered the scent of the female I had chased a few hours ago. I looked around only to be hit by a fist to the nose. My nose broke and then I got a kick to my nuts. I barely had time to scream as I started to go down fast and hard to floor before the next second I was pinned to the floor with a sawed off shotgun to my head and two knees pressed to my chest.

I looked up into the face of Luna. I stared at her in surprised and then I realized she was Luna at all but a look a like. A very strong resemblance to the goddess Luna but the female above me was still a human. No wait. Not altogether human. Magi or wizard of some kind.

"Your quiet. You don't see that angry to be beaten by a female." She said in voice that had a rye humor in it.

I looked up at the face a pale woman with deep dark hair that had strains of blue in it that stank of magic and wild darkness around her that could only be the scent of her mate on her. I smiled up at the girl. "Hello. I'm Danny Sage. Ranger for hirer. Who might you be?" I asked.

The female frowned at me flashing a light from her palm at my eyes. She studied me. "Do you submit, puppy or shall we continue on?" She asked.

I nodded my head. A felt an invisible chain between us connect but she held a high position on it. It was a pack link. I realized this had been her intention. "Yeah. Sure do. Are you my big sister now?" I asked with a grin.

The girl raised an eye brow. "Am I?" She asked with a little bit of teasing in her voice.

I chuckled. I liked this female. "What is my big sister's name?" I asked.

"Angela Wells. You may call me Angie. Welcome to Drakescape little brother. Where is Mr. Drake off to?" She said.

I smiled. "Is going to beg his girlfriend to take him back. I expect he'll be doing a lot of begging today and tonight. So where you leading me toward him as my first client?" I asked.

"No. He's your boss. I thought you should both greet each other. Your not asking me to get up. Are you attracted to me?" She asked not in any real interest in her voice. She was just wondering.

"No. I'll get up when you'll let me. That's how this thing generally goes. So. Does Drakescape have anything like coffee here?" I asked.

I was more then a little surprised when she nodded her head. "Yes. Crossroads serves the best coffee period in the entire realm of Drakescape. Would you like a cup?" She said.

I smiled at her and sighed. "Yes. I very much would." I said.

Angie was up off my chest standing in front of me as I came to my feet slowly and nodded my thanks to her and brushed off the front of my dress shirt and jacket. "Has anyone ever told you that you look like Luna?" I asked.

Angie stared at me. "Luna. You mean the moon goddess of the were-wolves. No. They have not." She said and then smiled showing a set perfect white teeth. "Thank you but I very much doubt I look like a goddess." She said waving me to the front.

I nodded my head turning and started walking to the front. I heard her chuckle softly behind my back. We got to the front as a few customers came in smelling of coles, sweat and frustration.

I went behind the bar waving them forward to the bar. "Drake's gone to see his old lady to beg her to take him back. He'll be back. He told me to watch the bar for him. What will you have?"

"A free drink?!" One of the Draconian males said with a grin.

I flipped him off. "I was born last night but I ain't no dumbass to fall for that shit. Two silver for pint. Two gold coins for a beer same as always lads." I said and wondered how the hell did I know the prices.

"Your apart of the Crossroads now puppy." Angie said coming around to him and started to fix a black kettle to boil on mini shove for a cup of coffee.

I started grabbing a mug of beer to clean as the workers came up to the bar grinning at me their mouths smacking together for a taste of beer. I started fixing them up beer in the mugs expertly as money was slapped down on the bar. I slid the first mug over to Charlies as he nodded to me. His name came to me easily. another effect of the Crossroads magic on me.

"Thanks Mate." He said and took a drag of the beer happily.

I nodded and started fixing up the next beer mug. I looked at Angie. She was studying me close with a grin on her face. "What's going big sister?" I asked her.

Angie shook her head. "Your not what I expected. Were you bored a long time in the white zone?" She said.

I smiled at her and nodded my head. "Yeah. I was. Luna offered me this job as I was passing by. I jumped at chance to do something useful. Wait a second. Who or what were you expecting?" I asked and then finished topping off the mug with extra foam and slid it over to Grimoldow. The male nodded his thanks to me and downed the drink next to his friend happily.

I took up the coins and put them into the cash register and closed the shelf as I started cleaning a mug for another customer coming forward. Angie was still studying me. "What?!" I asked.

"Your not even stealing a coin for yourself." Angie said commenting to me.

I frowned at her. "Why would I do that? Anyway who or what were you expecting to show up here?" I asked.

Angie shrugged and turned to the kettle as it whistled and she started making me a cup. "I don't know. I was expecting someone more angry or silly to show up that I would have to deal with in a most violent fun way. The wizards at the library received a vision that you were coming in. I'm to be your agent in between working for Crossroads and matters dealing with dangerously stupid magic cases." She said.

I smiled. "Agent. I like the sound of that. That means I don't have to go looking for work you can bring the work to me." I said liking the idea. "You take five percent of my cut I assume." I said.

Angie just stared at me shaking her fixing my cup and then place it on a saucer and put it on the bar for me. I took it and put the cup to my lips and sipped the drink.

Oh my god. I closed my eyes. Warm. Not sweet. Not to bitter. A taste chestnut and dark chocolate of pour joy and care. Damn. I damned near cried. That was best cup of coffee I have ever had in forever. I put the cup down gentle and held out my arms.

Angie stared at me. "What?! Is it good or bad?" She said.

"Get your ass over here and hug me. That's best damn coffee I've ever had." I said seriously.

Angie rolled her eyes as the guys snorted in laughter. She came over and hugged my waist and patted my back. She stared at me open mouth when I wiped my face to keep from crying. She hit my shoulder. "Stop that. It's just a cup of coffee." She said in annoyance.

I took another sip and again. I damn near cried again. I had to set it down and serve another customer a drink. "So you didn't tell me what your cut of being my agent was going to be. It's five percent right?" I said.

"I aware I didn't say what my take is. I'm just acting as your agent." Angie said evasively.

"Hey can I get a cup of coffee from the lady to?" Marty said with tooth grin at her.

I glared at him. "Knock that shit off Marty. She's spoken for." I said.

Marty had the near to look at me with open mouth look of fake shock. "I ain't doing nothing to her Mr..." He said.

"Danny Sage. I know what the hell time your on Marty leave my big sister alone with that charming crap. I'm going to lay some hands on you brother." I said warning him and looked at Angie. "Your going to be taking five percent for assisting me in being my agent." I said.

Angie frowned at me. "I don't need the money Danny and I am not spoken for." She said lying to my face with straight face.

"You see." Marty said.

I ignored Marty for now and looked at Angie. "I smell a big sum-ah-bitch brick shit house scent on you big sister. You want to go start getting old Marty in some trouble with that male?" I said.

Angie's face flushed brightly. Her eyes were wide. "You can smell Mr. Big on me?" She said in shock. She sniffed herself suddenly grimacing. "I don't smell anything. Are you bullshitting me? How did you know about my....I mean Mr. Big?" She said in a nervous surprised voice and looked around.

She looked truly adorable now as she flushed in embarrassment at being caught in her lie. I stared at her. "I'm paying you five percent for being my agent for jobs." I said.

"How the hell did you know about Mr. Big?" She demanded.

"Big Sister. I'm a were-wolf. I smell his dominance and power all over you. It's a mating scent. Your a pretty strong wizard and sneaky warrior. Females like you I expect get mated quickly in this world from what information I've gathered so far." I said.

Angie's face was red. "I am not mated to Mr. Big. He is my enemy. We are not in that kind of relationship." She said.

She was lying. It was another thing I got as being a were-wolf. I knew when a person was lying by their heart beat and the change in their scent when they told a lie. I stared at her. "Has he ever called you his enemy?" I asked.

Angie stared at me. "No. That is still what we are. I hate him." She said.

Another lie. I stared at her. "Okay. He treat you right at least?" I asked.

Angie stared at me. "Why are you asking me this?"

"We're a pack now. Your my big sister and I'm your brother. I care about your well being. So he treat you right at least." I said.

Angie shook her head. "I don't know how to answer that question. You must not fight him or interfere in what is between us. Do you promise me that?"

I nodded. "Yes." I said.

She stared at me. "I serve him meals of his choosing and he allows me to go out of the house occasionally to work. We have sex and it is very good but it is not what you believe. He doesn't love me. I am his property. He is my reason for living." She said in totally serious voice.

Holy shit. She was in love with whoever this asshole was. He sounded like a damn king. I looked away from her. The bar was completely quiet. Marty frowned at her. "What the hell does that mean? Are you serious lady?"

I wanted to beat the shit out of Marty now. I looked at him. "It means he has a very very large penis and would crush you for looking at her." I said.

Marty proceeded to turn his body away from Angie and look to the side while drinking his beer.

"Danny! Damn nation. That is not what I said at all." Angie said in alarm.

I shrugged. "Is it true though?" I asked.

"Yes. But. Never mind. I will be back later tonight to present you with your first case. Oh. I'll be looking for an apartment for you in the city with a respectable rent. Don't worry about the deposit. Goodnight." She said and stormed out of the bar.

I looked at Marty. "You better leave my sister alone brother. She ain't for you. I'm trying to save your life Marty. You got a wife and kids." I said.

"ALRIGHT ASSHOLE. You win. I'm going home." Marty said throwing up his hands and walked out as Drake walked in with a lady with hour glass figure and the face model.
