Dancing with Monsters

Have you ever heard the story “The Woman with a Ribbon Around her Neck”? No? Well, aren't you in for a treat. I am a monster; from a long line of monsters. At first, I hated it, I wanted to be nothing more than a normal human... and for a few hundred years I blended in just fine with the rest of you. Mommy issues and all. But with a mother like Pandora, what can you expect? What? You've heard of Pandora? That's cute, she is nothing like how the storied have painted her. But this isn't her story, just her mess to clean up. But I digress. I grew. I learned that I could be so much more than I ever thought possible. If I was going to embrace being a monster, I would go all out. Me and my men will make sure that the humans don't need to worry about the things that go bump in the night. What Pandora released onto the world, I would take out. Feel free to leave all that messy business to us. Chapter 71

The General was clearly startled by my words, but I was not paying him too much attention. "I was also introduced to another 5 politicians that were using Jenny for something or other, but no one was willing to implicate themselves by saying exactly what she was doing for them."

"I see," Viktor said as he got himself comfortable in the chair beside General Brian Greyson. "So Jenny has been taking a page out of Pandora's book and involving humans in our matters in a low-key way."

I nodded in agreement with that assessment. "Yeah, but Greyson here hadn't even heard of House Gypsy before, so it's not like she is going out and claiming it. I am wondering if she has just found a good way to manipulate both the monster and the human communities and still make a lot of money in the end."

"Hold up," said Greyson as he tried to interject into our conversation. "What is House Gypsy, what are you talking about with monsters and humans and why do you think my superior is trying to get me killed."

"He or she is trying to get you killed through your sheer ignorance of what you wanted into. If you sent a troop into a war zone with little to no information or the wrong information, what would you expect to happen?" Said Viktor in a laid-back manner. Leave it to the Hunter to be able to speak military.

I watched as Greyson stiffened at the very mention of putting his teams at risk like that. "See," continued Viktor, stressing his point.

"This is simply a meeting," said Greyson, but for the first time since he came into my office, I heard a trace of nervousness and my monster could pick up his increased heart rate.

"This is far from a simple meeting," I said, looking at the two men in front of me. "What Jenny was doing broke every single law known to monsters, and you have now admitted that you are aware of it. What's it called in human terms? Accessory after the fact? That's it. You and the other 5 politicians have admitted to being accessories after the fact in the usage of dark magic. A death sentence… just in case you were wondering."

Greyson jumped to his feet in outrage. "What!" He yelled, "There is no such law as that within this country!"

"No human law," agreed Viktor as he carefully studied his nails. "Unfortunately for you, your superior has flung you straight into the world of monsters, and human laws do not apply."

"How about a name?" I asked, tilting my head to the side, a friendly smile on my face. If Viktor was going to take the position of bad cop, then I could only comply and take the position of good cop.

Greyson looked at me, suspicion deep within his eyes. I am sure that he has used this tactic in his own career, so he knows exactly what is going on. "I do not believe in monsters that go bump in the night."

I chuckled. "That's good. That's why we have remained hidden for so long. Most people don't believe in monsters anymore. But what would it take for you to believe in them? A vampire hunting you in the dark? A wolf in Central Park ripping out your throat? How about someone that could take any form imaginable? Would you have to see it firsthand to believe in the monsters?" I said, my voice taking on a crooning quality. My monster was closer to the surface than normal but had no desire to come out completely.

For some reason, she was interested in this man in front of her and I didn't know why. I looked at Viktor to see if he caught on. He simply shook his head.

"Monsters do not exist," insisted Greyson as he sat back down in his seat. "And my superior is not trying to kill me."

"Sure they're not," I agreed. "Then this whole conversation is pointless and you will die with the rotten men that walked into this room with you. You can leave whenever you want."

"They are never going to let you get close enough to kill them," pointed out the General, not making a move to stand up and leave.

This time it was Viktor that let out a low, dangerous chuckle. "Do you think we need to get close to them in order to end their life? Sometimes it is as easy as cutting a thread."

Ah… that's why Viktor was here, he found out my little secret. The smile on my face was enough of a confirmation for him to know that he was correct.

Greyson looked back and forth between us, not sure what was going on.

"You don't believe in monsters… but for some reason, a monster believes in you," I said looking at the human in front of me and without using my power, tried to see just how his fate connected to mine. "The first will die tonight," I said, giving him the heads up. He could do whatever he wanted, put as many men as he wanted on me and on the politicians that were involved with the perversion that was Jenny, but that would not save them. No, their greed had signed their death warrant and I would not allow that rot to continue infecting others.

"You have just admitted to planning the deaths of important political figures within the United States," growled Greyson in a tone that would have had the wolves impressed.

"And what can you possibly do about it?" I said, starting to get bored with this conversation. That was one of the problems dealing with a pure person like this, they were always so set in their ways. "I don't care if you believe me or not, but your superior has sent you to test the waters and see if you will die in their place or not. I can promise you, that as soon as you return to work, they will contact you regarding this meeting. If you trust them completely, tell them every last detail, if you don't, then simply say that no one got any benefits, but the new Head is going to look into things."

"The choice is yours," continued Viktor, "I suggest you make the correct one. For both you and the men under you."
