Beast Wave 3

As it struck midnight, hundreds of monsters called Molemen exited the mine to the north and raced southward to the Grass Village. The Molemen equipped with pickaxes and spears entered the village and began their attack. The monsters busted into the few buildings the village had and attacked the residences. NPC's and player's bodies covered the ground as the Molemen slaughtered their way through. Most of them couldn't fight off several monsters attacking.

One of the only survivors was Pedro using his Scythe to slay monsters like reaping wheat. After killing over ten Molemen, he finally arrived at Jon's tiny fortress. "They're here. May I come in."

Jon opened the gate and said, "Get in quick. Join Chou on the south wall."

Pedro looked at the wall and was amazed at how quickly they put all this together. He stepped through and found Chou on the back wall. Chou, equipped with a Goblin Spear, attacked the Molemen who came to close to the wall. Dirknooth, wielding his new shovel, guarded the east wall. Blue and George defended the west wall. Mary helped Jon guard the front gate.

A large group of Molemen started to chase the NPC Dan. A quest notification popped up.

Jon looked at Mary and said, "defend the gate. I'm going to rescue him. Dirknooth, let's go." Seeing the hobgoblin run after Jon. Blue moved over to the east wall.

Dan tripped and fell to the ground. He turned back and saw several Molemen leap at him. Several flying daggers killed the Molemen in the front. Jon arrived just in time to save the man. As he helped Dan up, Jon told him to head to their place. Dirknooth and Jon then looked at the remaining four Molemen. Three grunts and a Moleman Foreman.

The grunts attacked as the Foreman observed. Dirknooth stepped up to handle them as Jon slipped away to surprise attack the Foreman. The Foreman ignored Jon seeing at how powerful Dirknooth was knocking around the grunts. Sneaking around from behind, he activated Rat Sprint and thrust his iron dagger into the back of Foreman's head. The creature died instantly. Dirknooth finished off the three with his new weapon.

Since the experience was divided between the entire guild, only those with low levels such as Mary, George, Blue, and Chou leveled up.

"Pick up their spears and bring back," Jon said, pointing to the iron spears on the ground. They were better weapons than the stone ones, Mary and Chou were using.

Dirknooth grabbed them and a grunt. Jon shook his head. He knew Dirknooth was about to cook that Moleman when he gets the chance. Jon followed the hobgoblin while looking for Molemen attacking. At the moment, it seemed quite.

"Dirknooth, you can go ahead and cook him. It seems we have a break in the attack," Jon said as they entered their camp.

Dirknooth responded with a happy salute and drug the Moleman over to his firepit. Everyone came over glad that they leveled up, and the rescue went well. The new guys looked at Jon with envy. How was this young man so calm in all of this.

"What now, Jon?" asked Blue.

"I don't know. More will be coming through, so we should get some rest while we can," responded Jon.

Pedro piped up, "We can rotate through keeping watch."

"Good idea," George replied, agreeing with him.

They all agreed to watch the walls. Jon and Dirknooth would be on the first watch since the hobgoblin was determined to cook his meal, and Jon was the only one who could talk with him. Jon seeing the failure of communication, knew he would need to teach Dirknooth a few words to converse with human guildmates.

Once Dirknooth finished grilling the Moleman, he gave a bit to Jon. Jon happily took the meat while patrolling. He bit into his first mouthful and was surprised at how juicy the meat tasted. Sadly he didn't obtain any ability, but Jon was used to it.

After Dirknooth's and Jon's hour was up, Chou and George began their turn. George chose to watch the North Gate and east wall leaving the other two sides to Chou. Chou exhausted fell asleep leaning against the defense. A Moleman scout saw this and used his slinger to launch a rock. The projectile smashed into Chou's skull, splitting it open.

"Ahhh!" screamed Chou from the pain.

"We are being attacked!" yelled George. Before he could finish, several rocks were flung at their hut. Everyone inside escaped the aerial bombard, but George and Chou got hit with a few of them. Dirknooth stuck close the hut's east wall and made it out unscathed. Dirknooth threw his shield up to make his way over to George. He helped him get behind the shelter. Once they stopped, Jon ran out to see Chou unconscious on the ground bleeding. Several Molemen were already climbing over the wall. Jon started gathering the rocks on the ground to pelt the incoming enemy. Knocking a few off the wall, one attacked with its Pickax.

"Goblin Smash!" A front kick slammed into the Moleman's chest. The monster flew back into the wall. Mary finally exciting the shelter pierced its chest with her spear. Pedro, Blue, and Dan came out to Jon's leaping on the wall. Jon started tossing rocks at the incoming Molemen. Most of the creatures were stopped in their tracks and began to retreat. Jon finally breathed a sigh of relief, seeing the Molemen leave.

"Are they gone?" asked Mary.

"No, not even close. Right now, this isn't yet their full attack." Pausing for a minute, Jon looked down and saw that if it weren't for Dirknooth's ground traps, the enemy would've overwhelmed them. "Dirknooth, can you repair your traps?"

"Of course," responded the hobgoblin.

Dan and Pedro couldn't believe Jon spoke goblin. Mary forced Chou to eat the Nirvana Grass while Jon bandaged up him and George up. With two men already down, Jon knew they had to do something.

"I'm going to scout the village. We need more intel on the enemy. If I find anyone alive, I will bring them back. Dirknooth will stay awake until I return, so just one guard to roam and watch should be enough."

"Jon, that is too big of a risk," pleaded Blue. He didn't want to lose his friend to these Molemen.

"Just stay here, I warned everyone. They should've come here like Pedro."

"That's not fair, Mary. Most people planned to in the morning, but these Molemen attacked in the middle of the night," responded Pedro.

"Exactly. We are going to need more people to defend our perimeter." Jon said and then turned to Dirknooth to explain his plan. The goblin told him to be careful and went to work repairing the traps. Jon gathered all his gear and left scout the area.
