Chapter 20

I went to the city that the guild master directed me to.

The distance was quite long, but going on a car made the trip a lot shorter.

I was quite surprised since it was a car that could fly.

It didn't fly that high, but it was high enough to pass over the trees.

I didn't know if it was flying so low for safety reasons or if that was just as high as it could go.

I arrived in front of the city and stared at it in awe.

When I arrived at the village, it seemed modern, but this city seemed futuristic.

I walked around the city streets and saw many different buildings.

I didn't enter in any building, but I still tried to familiarize myself with the streets.

I also saw a giant campus blocked by a gate, which looked like some type of academy.

That wasn't where I was heading, though.

I kept on walking throughout the streets, looking for the mercenary guild.

After a bit of searching, I managed to find it.

It wasn't as grandiose as the guild building that was located in the village.

It was a small building that didn't attract any type of attention.

You would think it was some type of criminal organization.

I entered and saw that there was a receptionist on a desk located at the front of the room.

Behind the receptionist there were small offices located behind, making this seem like an office building.

I approached the receptionist and took a closer look at the receptionist.

The person was a woman that looked like an elf.

She had blonde hair and green eyes, and she was also wearing a business suit.

I approached the desk.

"What brings you here?," she asked me.

I didn't say anything and instead handed her a letter.

The letter was something that was given to me by guild master Victor.

The woman opened the letter and slowly read it.

"Please wait here for a second," she said as she stood up from her chair.

I watched her walk away to a door located behind the small office spaces.

She entered the door, and I could not see what she was doing anymore.

I silently waited for a minute or two and the elf walked out from where she had entered.

She signaled me to walk over to where she was standing.

While walking I looked around and saw people diligently working on whatever they were working on.

I then arrived at where the elf was standing.

"Please enter," she said while slightly holding the door open.

I entered the room, which seemed like an office, and saw a man sitting down on a chair.

His posture was straight while sitting down and just looking at him he looked like a giant.

He had bulging muscles that made the suit he was wearing seem small.

He also had green skin and on his face he wore comically small glasses.

He was obviously an orc.

"Go ahead, sit down."

I sat down on the chair located in front of the desk.

I felt slight discomfort as I had faced off against many orcs that were in the dungeon.

"Hello, I am the guild master of this mercenary guild. My name is Samuel."

"L. Jackson?"

"What?"

"No, never mind. It's something I always feel the need to say every time somebody says that name."

"Did you really need to say that," Samuel asked me with a dumbfounded expression.

"No, I just felt like I was too nervous and said something to distract myself."

"Why are you nervous?"

"You're obviously an orc, and I went into a dungeon full of orcs. Do you get where I'm coming from?"

"Yeah, I do get what you are saying. You don't have to worry as I come from another world. The orcs in the dungeon are something of an unintelligent type of orc, so they aren't really the same as me."

"Oh, thank goodness-"

"You're only forgiven if you killed the orc mage," he quickly cut me off.

"Orc mage?"

"You don't know? Those cocky bastards who think they're more important than any other orc. You didn't fight it?"

I remembered the orc that I killed, and the one whose death was celebrated by the other orcs.

"I killed it in its sleep."

"Forgiven," he instantly responded.

"Now let's start talking business, shall we?" Samuel said slightly after.

"Yeah, sure thing."

I then talked to Samuel about joining the mercenary guild.

He sent me to an apartment, telling me that I should come by tomorrow, as the contract would be ready to sign by tomorrow.

He also told me to not say that the mercenary guild was located in that building.

That way, people would keep their appearance hidden as a mercenary.

I sort of understood what he meant.

I took off my helmet as I walked out, making sure to take it off inside so no cameras outside would see me wearing the mask.

I want to keep both of my identities separated.

Now I would use my helmet to work as a mercenary.

I also made sure to slightly changed my clothes so that I looked a bit more different.

I then headed off towards the apartments that Samuel told me about.

It didn't cost much from what I had.

It only costed 50,000 gold.

I had 1,000,000 gold in my watch.

I had amassed quite a bit of money from completing a bunch of quests.

I entered the room and looked at it carefully.

It was small, but had all of the essentials.

Entering the room there was a sliding door to the left.

I opened it and inside was a bathroom.

I looked into it and inside was a small shower, a sink, and a toilet with a bidet.

"Yes!" I exclaimed when I saw the bidet.

I exit the bathroom and walked further inside.

There was a small but comfortable looking bed to the right.

On the left, there was an empty desk with a small, empty bookshelf.

In between the two things, located on the wall, was a window.

I could see the street clearly as I was in the third floor of the apartment complex.

I guess I'll turn in for today.

I'll explore the city more tomorrow.

I went to sleep on the comfortable bed.
