Chapter 9 : Sweet Victory

You know that feeling you get when you know that you’re not alone and that you’re being watched?

The steady crawl of something creepy, something dark, that brushes claws along your neck.

Not enough to hurt, but just enough to frighten. To let you know that you are prey more so than predator.

Have you ever felt that feeling—the feeling of being hunted?

Of pure fear?

There was a reason why humans called The Court Of Moonlit Shadows the Nightmare Realm. We housed the darker Fae within our ranks. Those that hunted humans and other beings for meals, used their essence to prologue their own because it was simply in their nature to do so.

We didn’t endear ourselves to the humans the way the Light Court did, or the way the neutral dwarven kingdoms might if a human strays far enough into the Spires. We took delight in leaving them frightened, if we left them alive at all, the bitterness of centuries of war, of slaughter, had made us every inch the monsters they thought us.
