Chapter 3: Finally some info

Kevin entered the elevator and headed for the ground floor to meet with the security guard.

The ground floor soon arrived, but Kevin waited to exit the elevator. As he wanted to note down the details of the elevators first. The thought of his made-up dream coming true appeared in Kevin's head.

Later he finally arrived at the ground floor and met with the security guard.

Adam asked, "Hi."

The security guard looks Kevin up and down before asking, "What do you want?"

Kevin showcased his door key and spoke, "I wanted some help, so I lived on the ninth floor and wanted to shift to the thirteenth floor. Do you know who I should talk to?"

The security guard asked, "Why do you want to shift?"

Kevin answered, "I think the view will be better from the thirteenth floor."

The security guard asked, "If you want a better view, why not shift to the 15th floor."

Kevin replied, "No, I like the 13th-floor view. It looks amazing. I want to shift there."

Security guard – "I think you should reconsider that."

Kevin asked, "Why are all the eight apartments fully occupied? "

The security guard replied, "No, the floor is entirely empty."

Kevin asked, "Then?"

The security guard looked around and said, "Don't tell anyone I told you this, but there is a rumor that everyone who shifts on the floor ends up missing."

Kevin – "What?"

The security guard replied, "Yes, it has been rumored to have been occupied by eight different people."

"The strange thing is that every single one of them seems to either go missing or never exist."

Kevin asked, "Does the landlord know about this? Why didn't I find any information online? Shouldn't there have been a major investigation if this rumor was true?"

The security guard spoke, "Well, the landlord claims those eight people had never rented the place and that the 13th floor has always been empty, but when I joined, the old guard told me things."

Kevin – "Things? "

Security guard – "Yes, many things, such as how he had seen people shift on the 13th floor but vanish out of thin air, no questions were raised. There was even a time when relatives appeared, but they headed to the 13th floor and vanished."

Kevin – "Are you sure this old guard isn't some crazy fellow?"

Security guard – "No, he seemed very sound when I met him."

Kevin – "Then why was he dismissed? "

Security guard – "Due to him spreading the rumors."

Kevin – "I see. Do you have the phone number of this man?"

Security guard – "No, as he also went missing. "

Kevin – "Wait, so he went missing for real? "

Security guard – "Yeah, unlike how the rumors didn't have any evidence, but the guard himself going missing did. There was a police case, and everything but nothing was found."

"That's what makes this crazy rumor believable to me. If you still feel like it, I can talk with the owner and arrange for your shifting."

Kevin – "No need. I am happy where I am. Who would shift after heading such a twisted tale."

Kevin then headed back home and fully digested this newfound information. He wasn't going to face one ghost but instead eight different spirits.

Kevin then looked at his mission requirement again, saw the 12.5 percent, and tried to relate it to the eight people.

Kevin- "Wait for a second if I multiply 12.5 by 8, that makes 100 percent, so I have to complete each apartment separately."

"Wait, who killed the first ghosts if it's only eight ghosts?"

[Hidden Mission Detected: Find clues about the original ghost responsible for starting a chain of ghost killings.]

[Ongoing sub-mission has been updated]

Kevin immediately decided to check what had changed.

[Sub-mission – Enter apartment 1301 at midnight dressed as a Pizza Delivery man.]

Kevin – "Whoa, now I have to even dress up. I guess it must be some sort of entry requirement, but why a pizza delivery man? Also, should I deliver a real pizza, or is there no need?"

Kevin heard no response or updates to his question.

Kevin – "I guess I might as well bring the pizza. After all, I can't depend on chance in a life-and-death encounter. Being fully prepared is the least I can do."

Kevin then searched online for nearby pizza shops with in-house delivery that were hiring. Later he gave an interview online and even bagged a daytime job.

That's right Kevin who had no work experience just had an online interview talking about how he knew how to cook and somehow it landed him the job.

This was a very strange experience for Kevin a failed actor who had failed multiple interviews and if it wasn't for his urgent need for the dress he would have even reconsidered joining.

As getting hired on spot in a fast-food job without any prior experience through an online interview probably meant either they needed to urgently hire someone for some reason or no one else wanted the job.

Kevin decided to not give it too much thought and took a nap after setting an alarm one hour before the fateful encounter to make sure he had enough rest and could be active late at night.
