An Yeran was stunned for a moment, not coming back to her senses until they had run a considerable distance.
"Xiaoxiu..." she said, "Are you okay?"
The teenager pulled her along, the footsteps of their chasers echoing behind them. Lu Xiu looked around, finally choosing a dense bush. He pulled An Yeran and hid in it.
The sound of running footsteps quickly followed them from the small road, but after a while, it gradually faded away.
The two of them leaned against a tree at the edge of the bush, panting slightly.
After running, their chests rose and fell in short, sharp bursts. Only when the surroundings were entirely quiet did Lu Xiu slowly lift his head. He whispered, "I'm fine, sister. There's a large forest ahead of us on this mountain path, once we cross it and run for another ten minutes or so, we'll be back on the main road."
