Choosing second to come first

It begins a bit rough but improves as it progresses just due to it being my first work, the world as everyone knew it changed, John though refused to bend or bow, well others seemed to be corrupted and changed by there choices John kept his sanity, or rather had no sanity to hold onto as the voices in his head that others beside his best friend dismissed as imaginary become more prominent, as he sets out to make his mark he learns the nature of the changes to the world, finding out more and striving to get stronger and to kill the so called gods who where responsible for it, but everything comes at a cost. So just a small heads up, it starts a little rough but I can promise it Improves as the chapters go on, a bit slow but it's my first real novel so hope you all enjoy it :-) Ps. This story is writing itself, so all the twists and turns are by its own choice as I'm just the one putting it on digital paper as odd as that sounds, share a stone if you like it and I'll also try to keep as consistent as I can with updates.

Chapter 46: Nightfall Stratagem

Chapter 46: Nightfall Stratagem

"Are we almost there? It feels like we've been walking for weeks! And just so you know I haven't spilled blood in a while and been forced to see it spilt, I need my fix!" Alice's voice carried her barely contained bloodlust, her madness seeping through as her eyes seemed to take a faint red glint to them.

"We're almost there, it's three blocks ahead around the corner, that's their base here, also where they store their loot before moving it and people they take captive, but it's also where the boss is so no one tries anything towards the place anymore, well some have but they didn't last long from what I know," Rebecca explained as they stopped not too far away, the night having come fast and covering everything in its blanket of shadows. The moon tucked away behind some clouds lazily drifting by, there was hardly any creatures stirring around here causing an eerie silence around them.

"You two remember the plan?" Braedon asks in a calm, quiet tone getting nods from the pair. "Good then let's do this, don't hold back, if they surrender then knock them out, I don't want any chances or for them to turn on us the second we turn our back to them." He tells them slowly creeping his way forward to the brightly lit building upfront. Its walls various parts of metals clearly taken from cars and a huge fire burning in the middle casting shadows visible through the holes, a large iron gate on tracks the entrance and exit of the place, the remains of some houses visible only due to what was left of their roofs being higher than the walls and two large burly figures in front of the gate in their makeshift metal armors holding large rebars with a chunk of concrete on their ends turning them into makeshift clubs visibly bored.

"Alice go in first, see if you can take them out quietly, as long as they go down and we can go in that's all that matters," Braedon tells her getting a big grin from the girl as she seems to spring forward. One would think it difficult to hide well wearing a blue and white dress but somehow Alice seemed to seamlessly blend into the night, appearing behind one guard and using the scythe to free his head from his body well quickly spinning and stabbing the other through the bottom of his jaw taking him out as well.

"Rebecca help me move the bodies aside, preferably in a dark shadowy corner where they won't be seen," Braedon says receiving a silent acknowledgment as they make their way over to the bodies and an excited Alice who proceeded to stab the body a few more times claiming it was to be sure they were dead well putting on the most innocent look she could well holding the bloody dagger in her hand.

"Originally, I wanted you two to go in and we face them head on but if we can kill them quietly it could work out a lot better for us, less chance of injuries and the like, so we will keep taking them out quietly till we have no other choice, understood? Any questions?" Braedon says to the pair after they had moved the bodies, trying to use some loose sand to hide the blood stains as they slowly open the entrance gate and slip in to hide in a shadow next to the gate.

"So I get to be a ninja! Ooh ooh no better, an assassin like that game with a creed. But do you really think the tin girl can be sneaky in that armor? Rather just leave it to me and if things go bad have her draw them to her and take blows," Alice says, her tone overly sugary and giddy before turning serious with an edge to it making Braedon question for a moment where this came from but nodding slowly. Alice had a good point, and this would work much better overall.

"Let's go with that then, it's a better plan overall and I can see your point, go let loose Alice and do your best, as for you Rebecca get ready to draw them over when things go South, tell me though, where would your friend and the prisoners be along with their loot?" Braedon says to them as he turns to focus on Rebecca, Alice grinning wide as she sprang once more into action sneaking into the place, bouncing from one shadow to the other.

"Uhm my friend would be in the third shank on the left over there next to the mostly intact building, that building would be where the Blade and his elites probably are along with the loot they have, as for any prisoners there probably in that half destroyed one on the right, I remember it was changed to be really recured and lots of bars and steel all over the place," Rebecca says, her tone unsure as she tried to point everything out well focusing and getting herself ready for a fight.

"Should have expected that, people in power often try to keep their wealth close and under their own guard rather than hiding it in decent places, and what you said would match a prison, hmm do you think you would be able to get to your friend and warn them to stay inside along with everyone else you trust in the shacks and then make it back without being seen?" Braedon asks her, his tone steady as he keeps a watch, seeing Alice take out another group of three seemingly drunk men.

"I, I can try I think, if I stick to the side I should be able to get there, but what about you? Can't you rush over, and do it? I think you would blend in far better with your dark colors rather than my shiny metal armor," Rebecca says, trying to convince him to go instead but getting a headshake in denial.

"Not happening, first I'm not fast or agile or even flexible, not sure if you have eyes but this body isn't made for fast stealthy movements, secondly why the hell would any of them even listen to me? They would have to be absolute idiots to just trust a random stranger showing up at night telling them to stay inside, they would sooner call the bastards over, no you will go, I want to see their prisoners instead, maybe someone they captured could be useful and help us out in taking them out," Braedon tells her slowly trying to sneak into the shadows as he heads to the prison, not even waiting for a reply from Rebecca, who with a pout tried doing the same, sneaking in the shadows cast by the large bonfire in the middle of the camp to try and get to the shacks but not managing to be even remotely as stealthy as Alice seemed to be, her armor reflecting the fire's light certainly wasn't helping but at least she listened and was trying.
