Chapter 49: New Places, Same People

To say that the bartender was nervous was certainly an understatement. She changed several different bottoms, all different shades of black. Once she settled on the preferred option, Selene suddenly realized that the shirt might have been black, yet well-loved and thus a different hue.

Nothing matched, and nothing worked. But she did eventually settle in a simple shirt borrowed from Carter’s storage the first morning they spent in his apartment with Elizabeth. It was her shirt, although Selene started to doubt it since it was plain black, not a mix of bright colors the managers seemed to prefer.

The woman reasoned that she looked nice. Not special or glamorous, yet a simple black suit and loafers usually got things done.
