Attack

I went to find Kirby, if she wasn't going to help us I needed her to take care of the kid. I found her in a corner in one of the rooms that were completely filled with people.

She was huddled up. Her hands were over her head and was trying to calm herself down. "I'm not going back out there. I'm not. I'm not, not, NOT."

"Hey, Kirby, calm down. You don't have to, you just take care of the girl and me and Thea'll take care of the rest." She looked at me with relief in her eyes. Whatever had happened to her, she was terrified and traumatized.

"Thea can't even use her powers, how is she going to fight?" She looked at me, disbelief in her eyes.

"I don't know, I'll make it up as I go." I really shouldn't have made a promise like that since it would force Kirby to make a decision I would never wish on anyone.

I woke up after being kidnapped. I was in a cage, unable to move my legs or arms. I saw a man, "Oh, you're awake, wonderful. Whisper shall be happy."

Later I would learn the name of this madman, The Dollmaker he called himself, Puppet master of the silent legion. The way he acted was surprisingly sane for a man that worked on bodies.

"You will be saved little girl, remember that. The pieces must be in place if I'm to fulfill my goals, and you, my dear, are one of the most important pieces of all."

He would sometimes speak to himself, it was like he was using a phone or communicator without using one.

When they came, a girl and a man with a fox mask, he acted like someone else. I knew why, he had explained to me my purpose and I would fulfill it to the best of my abilities.

I was looking through the case files on the Whisperer, we had nearly nothing on him, like he was a ghost.

"Detective Maura, I need you to come take a look at this." The one these words came from was a rookie detective by the name of Elpis.

What he showed me was a grave robbery that had happened a few months ago. The graves of the entire Morgen family had been opened and their bodies had been taken.

I started making a plan, since we couldn't damage the dolls we should attack the one controlling them. I could fly towards him but I needed backup so we developed a strategy that would hopefully thin the herd.

We prepared to move outside, making sure our suits were definitely attached the right way. Thea opened the door and sent a blast of Lightning outside. You see, the water that is present in the streets of Atlantis was seawater. The things that can make water conductive are minerals like salt. Now what is a well known property of seawater, the massive concentration of salt.

I hoped that the magic would compensate for the massive electrolysis that the lightning would cause but I wasn't that afraid since they had electricity.

The dolls standing outside got electrocuted and fell down, staying unmoving. At least we knew it was possible to keep them down.

We moved until we met up with another horde of those dolls. Then we moved into another house and Thea shot out another lightningbolt into the water. Rinse, repeat.

It was easier than expected which made me skeptical, I mean, all of the puppets were staying outside. It isn't like they can't move outside of water since the sewers were like that and they moved just fine down there.

When we finally arrived at the center of the horde, we understood why. The people of Atlantis weren't the target, we were.

"Hahaha, you actually did it. I was kind of expecting you not to. At least I now know that you are ingenious sometimes. Let's see here, oh right, about those dolls you 'dispatched', look behind you."

At first I thought he was rambling like a madman but when I looked I saw all of the dispatched dolls in sight stand up.

"I like your ideas, by the way. Using the natural conductivity of seawater to electrocute all of them at once. THIS, is why I like working in the field, you heroes always come up with so many original ideas."

He was just laughing, just laughing after calling all of those people.

"Now, now, Whisper, I wouldn't kill the boy just yet, I would savour our time together. Where is that stupid girl? WHERE IS SHE… no no, I shouldn't yell, that's not very nice."

Whilst all of this was going on me and Thea where just frozen in place. We hadn't been able to move since we got close to him. I don't mean frozen in fear, we literally couldn't move.

"Now now, Whisper, I don't want to kill him just yet, I need entertainment and he can give it to me. Oh, you want me to use them as puppets and kill all of their friends? That would be something but no, not a good idea. What, you want me to obey your every command? Nah, not feeling it right now."

Then after even more of his mad rambling he turned to us. "You, Leo Morgen, are extraordinary, you should've died when we attacked your home but, no, you survived and are back with a vengeance. Well, I do think that you came here for other reasons and not because you knew I was here but still, you here to kill me anyway, well then, do it, KILL ME!"

I could move again but I didn't, I was still processing the fact that he had been there, he was partly responsible for my family's death. "HAHAHA, you can't move. This was fun and all that but I think I'm going to take my good friend Whisper's advice. Bye bye." And with that a knife came towards me at high speed.
