Chapter 1

As Taylor stared out of the window of his classroom, daydreaming, he was suddenly brought back to reality by his teacher, Miss Robinson. "Mister Chambers, your marks last term were not good at all. Please pay attention. Next week, you guys are writing midterms," she said. Taylor snapped out of his trance, feeling embarrassed as he realized that he was the center of attention, and his classmates were looking at him with a mixture of confusion and amusement. He muttered, "Sorry," under his breath and went back to staring at the sky.

The bell rang, signaling the end of the period, and Taylor quickly packed up his things and left the classroom. As he was on his way out, he was stopped by Stacey, his best friend. "You can't be spacing out during class," she said. "You were thinking about Madison Copper, weren't you?" Taylor quickly blushed after hearing this. As they walked outside the school, Taylor's attention was drawn to a blonde-haired girl with blue eyes and a small figure. It was Madison Copper, Taylor's crush.

Taylor had always been infatuated with Madison, ever since he first laid eyes on her in the 6th grade. He couldn't help but stare at her perfect blonde hair and bright blue eyes, and he often found himself lost in daydreams about what it would be like to be with her.

As Taylor and Stacey walked home from school, as usual,Taylor couldn't resist the opportunity to talk about his crush. "I can't believe how beautiful Madison is," he gushed. "I just can't get her out of my head."

But Stacey wasn't impressed, "Again with this." She thought, "I don't understand why you like her so much," she said, frowning. "She's just another pretty face. There are plenty of other girls who are way more interesting and intelligent."

Taylor wasn't fazed by this comment. "I know she's not perfect, but there's just something about her that draws me in," he said. "I can't help how I feel."

But Stacey wasn't convinced. "I just don't get it," she said, shaking her head. "She's so basic, just your stereotypical pretty girl. Nothing about her really stands out. You deserve someone who is actually worth your time, not just some superficial girl who doesn't even know you exist."

Despite Stacey's words, Taylor couldn't shake his feelings for Madison. He knew it was probably a hopeless crush, but he couldn't help the way he felt.

"Let's face it, even if I do deserve better, I am not likely to find anyone who likes me. It's better to dream of something rather than expect anything. I mean, what normal girl would ever like me?" Taylor said.

Hearing this, Stacey frowned fiercely, as though she had been deeply offended by his words. Just as they were about to say goodbye, Stacey suddenly hit him on the head and stormed off without saying a word. Taylor was left in shock, wondering what he had done to deserve such treatment from his best friend.

Feeling annoyed by Stacey's action, he frowned but remembered that Stacey's indifference and violent tendencies were nothing new. Taylor headed home and arrived feeling exhausted and ready to lie down, but his mother screamed his name loudly in the corridors.

"TAYLOR!!!" his mom screamed as soon as he walked in, as if sensing him enter. "What is it, Mom?" he asked, a mixture of confusion and concern.

"Have you seen my makeup toolkit? I think I saw it in your room somewhere," she said, again with this, he thought to himself. "Mom, I have told you many times I don't use makeup, so of course, I haven't seen it," he sighed, knowing it was hopeless trying to convince her.

"Are you going out tonight?" he asked.

"Yes," she replied, "I got this thing at work. We are celebrating a co-worker's promotion."

"I thought you hated parties, especially with co-workers," he shot back.

"Well, I couldn't decline. I have to support my co-worker's success," she replied. "But wasn't that the promotion that you wanted?" he asked.

She turned to face him with a wide yet lifeless smile and said, "Yes, yes it was," then she continued her search.

"I need you to cook and wash the dishes tonight," she said, but Taylor objected, "But, Mom, isn't it Anna's turn tonight?"

"Well, your sister is busy," she replied, but before he could interject, she added, "You want to be grounded?"

He kept quiet after hearing this. "See, I told you it was in your room" she said Taylor felt slightly frustrated by this and said under his breath, "It must be that time of the month again." As if hearing him clearly, she asked, "What was that?"

"Oh, nothing. I better get cooking," Taylor said.

While Taylor was cooking, Anna walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge. "Food is almost ready," Taylor said.

"No need," said Anna, "me and my friends are having pizza."

"Are you serious?" Taylor retorted, "But I have cooked so much food. Who is going to eat it?"

"I don't know," she said nonchalantly and exited the room before Taylor could burst out in anger.

After dinner, Taylor spent the night staring up at the stars, trying to make sense of it all. He wondered if he would ever be able to understand women, and if he were a woman, would he be able to understand them better? "Sometimes, I wish I could be a girl; maybe then I can understand what the female species is thinking," he said out loud as he stared at the sky. Then he went to sleep.

Taylor woke up lazily, not wanting to go to school, but he went to the bathroom anyway. As Taylor began brushing his teeth, while his eyes were blurry, as his vision became clearer, he saw a girl in the mirror and jumped out. He was in for a shock. Who was she, he wondered? He looked in the mirror again slowly and finally realized that the girl in the mirror was himself. "It's a dream," he thought to himself. "It must be a dream." As he looked in the mirror, he saw that he had turned into a girl overnight. Panic set in as he tried to make sense of what had happened.
