By The Seashore

There's nothing as peaceful as the waves crashing onto the sand at random intervals but that night, Soleil was looking for a different type of peace at the sea. One that would erase all her burdens at once.

The beach was empty and the water ahead was dark and large, promising a great deal of danger to whomever dared venture into it but at that moment, all the red lights were bright green to Soleil, as green as the grass grown after the rainy season.

She could see it from where she stood, the company her father worked hard to build, the company she was supposed to take over, the same company that dumped her in a heartbeat before hearing her side of the story despite the work and effort she poured in to make it what it is today.

Her steps were lazy and disorganized, strikingly contrasting her normal self. Her feet sank into the soft sand beneath it like a warm bed after a stressful day but rather than it being warm, it was like she was stepping on lava and sharp knives at that same time; the result of walking around aimlessly for hours.

The night breeze that ran through her hair and the cold seawater that made her blood run cold all felt numb and yet painful to Soleil. She was aware that pain was shooting through every muscle in her body but she couldn't feel it- she didn't want to feel it.

Soleil kept walking further and further into the water until her feet were no longer touching the ground and all that was around her was cold darkness- welcoming darkness. It was cold, unbearably cold but she shut out the feeling and let herself go as she sunk deeper into the sea.

She had the urge to breathe, to swim up to the surface and take a deep breath of air- the urge to survive, but her determination to die was far stronger than the feeble survival instincts she was born with.

"Death comes for everyone so I better run towards it instead. Leaving this world has to be my choice and mine alone."

Her vision was getting blurry and she could feel herself leaving the world behind as the darkness grew stronger and stronger.

"Whore..."

"Ungrateful bitch..."

"Shameless woman..."

"A disgrace to every woman out there..."

"She belongs on the street..."

Every negative word and slander that had been uttered against her the last two days kept replaying in her mind. The comments on random social media accounts, the look of disgust plastered on everyone who glanced her way, and the news articles that spared no efforts in calling her various degrading names.

Even in her final moments, they still controlled her emotions and took over her mind. People who had never seen her a day in their lives before but felt the need to judge her and rip her to shreds, people who were willing to kiss her ass if she wished for it to happen only two days ago were now painting a negative picture of her character to the world, saying things like, "She always did stray from the righteous path."

It was funny, even underwater as she drowned, the silence from the sea still couldn't quiet the noise in her head.

As Soleil's tears mixed with the salty seawater, she smiled a bitter smile for the last time and welcomed what was ahead of her. 'It's time... My time here has come to an end.'

Just as she was about to step into the otherworld- the afterlife, Soleil felt a surge of pressure around her as a pair of strong arms enveloped her body and then darkness took over.
