Chapter 66: Surprise Attack
As several black lights were about to hit Zhao Hai and the others, a translucent layer of water-blue protective shield appeared around them, blocking the black lights. Green, who was standing on Alien's back, swiftly threw himself towards the direction the black lights came from. Though Green was wearing full body armor and enveloped in pale cyan Battle Qi, his speed was incredibly fast, disappearing from sight in an instant.
Meanwhile, Merine whispered to Zhao Hai, "Young Master, let's retreat." Zhao Hai understood that it was time to listen to Merine, so he immediately commanded Alien to retreat.
As they retreated, several black lights were still shot towards them. However, Zhao Hai noticed that the Undead Creatures he had summoned had already reached the nest of the undead Mercenary Group's Undead Creature army. He commanded his Undead Creatures to attack the black lights.
Zhao Hai and the others retreated to a position behind a soil bank, while the eight Dark Magicians hid in the forest, making it difficult for Laura and the others to see their movements.
Zhao Hai noticed a difference when he summoned the Magic Beasts this time. Instead of summoning them one by one, they all appeared together, causing a projection screen to materialize in front of him. The screen displayed different colored dots, with red dots representing the Undead Creatures they summoned, green dots representing Markey Delphi Trading Company's people, and several black dots hidden in the forest.
Zhao Hai attempted to command his Undead Creatures to attack the black dots, and they obediently followed his orders, rushing towards the black dots.
Zhao Hai observed the results of his commands and immediately ordered the Undead Creatures to stop. He counted the black dots and found that there were eight of them, while the red dots were engaging them in battle. Zhao Hai also noticed the direction Green had gone, and the black dots were hurrying towards that same direction. The remaining six black dots were heading towards them, indicating that they were the ones intending to confront them.
Zhao Hai divided his Undead Creatures into seven teams, with six teams consisting of 200 Undead Creatures each to engage the six black dots. The remaining 157 Undead Creatures stayed close to protect Zhao Hai. His intention was to have the Undead Creatures safeguard themselves.
Meg, who had been quietly reciting an incantation, created a pale shield of fresh air that surrounded them, protecting Zhao Hai and herself. Meg didn't add a shield for Merine because she believed that Merine could handle herself, but her main duty was to protect Zhao Hai.
The six black dots noticed Zhao Hai's plan and increased their speed, rushing towards him. They believed that if they could get closer to Zhao Hai, their chances of victory would improve. If they were surrounded by the Undead Creatures, it would only be a matter of time before Zhao Hai killed them.
The undead Mercenary Group had experienced countless dangers, with the most dangerous being when they were hunted down by a Clan. While they were still alive, each member had reached the level of a 7th level Dark Magician. But when they were chased by the Clan, they were all turned into Undead Creatures. Currently, their true strength was around that of a 6th level Magician. If not for their extraordinary Black Magic, it would have been impossible for them to roam freely on the continent.
During the pursuit, they encountered an 8th level Expert, who initially didn't engage them in a direct fight, but rather assassinated them one by one before chasing them down. If the opponent had engaged them in a direct confrontation, they were confident in their ability to fight back and not lose. However, after losing three members, they were hesitant to fight head-on, and their confidence wavered.
The situation they faced this time was extremely dangerous as they were dealing with two 8th level Experts and a group of Undead Creatures. Their chances of success were very slim.
But the reason they chose to attack Zhao Hai was not because they believed they could kill him. Rather, they wanted to test whether they could escape from Zhao Hai's clutches. The experienced members of the group knew that if they were to turn around and flee, Zhao Hai would likely pursue and eventually kill them. Therefore, they decided to attack Zhao Hai first to see what the outcome would be and to find an opportunity to escape.
However, they didn't expect that Zhao Hai and his group were waiting for them to approach. If they had simply turned and fled, it would have posed a real problem for Zhao Hai. However, as they closed in on Zhao Hai, they found themselves completely surrounded by him.
Zhao Hai noticed that the six black dots had come close but hadn't yet seen their figures. Although he could see them clearly on the projection in front of him, he wondered why he couldn't see them with his own eyes. He found it quite strange.
Although Zhao Hai was curious, he understood that it wasn't the time to ask questions. He had just warned Merine, and he knew their positions. Therefore, he wasn't overly concerned.
The six black dots came closer, entering the range of the Undead Creatures protecting Zhao Hai. However, the Undead Creatures seemed oblivious to their presence.
Zhao Hai realized that the six individuals must be using some sort of Secret Technique to achieve invisibility, making them undetectable by the Undead Creatures. He couldn't see them either, despite being able to observe them on the projection.
With no need to act immediately, Zhao Hai focused his attention on the projection, ready to make a move at any moment. His calm demeanor seemed more fitting for a Dark Magician. In this environment, he appeared motionless, which added to the eerie atmosphere.
Merine, however, sensed the approach of the six individuals but didn't make a move. She wanted them to come closer so that her attack would have a greater chance of success. She was also confident in Zhao Hai's safety since she was there to protect him. If worse came to worst, Zhao Hai could always enter the space, so she wasn't too worried.
Suddenly, Zhao Hai noticed that the six black dots had stopped just ten meters away from him. He knew it was time and shouted, "Attack!"
In response to his command, Alien moved forward. Although he didn't need to shout the order out loud, he couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement. The order was simple and added to his sense of anticipation.
As soon as Zhao Hai gave the command, Merine sensed the energy and immediately cast her spell. Suddenly, a powerful surge of spiritual force emanated from Alien and rushed towards the six individuals' locations.
Merine was surprised at first but quickly understood what Zhao Hai meant. She changed her magic accordingly. Instead of launching an attack, she focused on capturing the enemies alive. She knew very well the significance of Alien's Spiritual Attack to Magicians.
Though she didn't know how Zhao Hai had discovered the six individuals, she didn't have time to dwell on it. She quickly recited an incantation, summoning six water dragons that materialized by her side. The water dragons charged towards the locations of the six individuals.
The water dragons arrived before the individuals could react, effectively restraining them. Seizing the opportunity, Zhao Hai opened a Space rift, and Merine, acting swiftly, threw the captives into the Space.
With everything done, Zhao Hai and Merine finally relaxed. The timing of their attack had been perfect. While the enemy was still preparing their own spells, they were caught off guard by the sudden Spiritual Attack. Then, Merine swiftly took advantage of the situation, capturing the enemies and throwing them into the Space. The coordination between them was flawless.
The crucial element that made it all possible was the projection from the Space. It completely bypassed the invisibility of the six individuals, and every action they took was visible to Zhao Hai. This allowed him to time his Spiritual Attack perfectly, resulting in a smooth operation. Without this advantage, the battle could have turned against them.
