Chapter 4

Three students sat quietly in the detention room. All three covered in tomato sauce from head to toe. Mrs Smith, the teacher in charge of detention that week looked at all three of them hatefully, the smell of tomato sauce that invaded the room was intoxicating.

Drew, Mary and Jake sitting down quietly in different corners of the room didn't look remorseful at all, they each had different thoughts. Drew has a small smile on his face, he had had lots of fun. Mary was not satisfied, she didnt get to hit Jake as much as she would have wanted to. Jake was furious, he had gotten more than he thought he deserved.

"Drew Barrymore, I thought more of you as a good kid, how did you end up here looking like a bottle of hot sauce?" Mrs Smith asked.

Drew kept quiet.

"Who started the fight in the first place?" Mrs Smith asked.

No one answered.

"You", she pointed at Mary. "Burch, Mary Burch....awkward last name" she added the last three words quietly. "A new student getting involved in a fight, and this is your second day of school and second detention. What do you have to say for yourself?" Mrs Smith asked.

Mary kept quiet, she had no regrets.

"And you Jake? How did the fight start?"

"I didn't start the fight" Jake growled.

"Then who did" Mrs Smith persisted.

"Yeah you did stop whining like a little child". Mary said.

"It was a mistake I didn't mean to spill the sauce on you" Jake snapped.

"Yes you did, how else would you explain a whole bowl of sauce flying all over my skirt".

"Well none of us would be here if you hadn't let me say intentionally sauced the principal", Jake said.

"How was I supposed to know she was behind me, I didn't know she was coming to make an announcement but the stupid thing only happened because you started it".

"And how did you come into the picture Drew?" Mrs Smith asked Drew.

"Well I was sitting with Mary when the whole thing started and I kinda night threw food too just for the fun of it". Drew smiled.

Jake rolled his eyes and remembered how the food fight started.

Cheryl had dared him to pretend to slip and then throw an entire bowl of tomato sauce on Mary, there was loads of sauce in the cafeteria that day.

"I dare you Jake to have this entire sauce on Mary in a minute". Cheryl smirked.

Jake had never not done a dare, he grabbed the bowl immediately and jogged to where Mary and drew were seated.

"Heyy I... Whooooooooow", he pretended to fall and splash the sauce was all over Mary.

Mouths dropped for a moment and then laughter took over.

Phones went up and pictures were taken #saucegirl.

Mary looked into Jake's eyes angrily, she could see laughter in them.

"I'm sorry I slipped" Jake said sarcastically.

"Oh really slippery feet" Mary stood up slowly. She grabbed Drew's food and threw it all over Jake. Jake staggered back and almost fell, he wasn't expecting that, newbies weren't that bold.

"Ohhhww", the others jeered. They moved closer and took pictures of Jake too.

"You little cunt" Jake growled. Cheryl had moved beside him and she moved another bowl of cereal towards his hands. Jake didn't think twice before flinging it on Mary but Drew got in the way and it landed on the idiot. The crowd were getting entertained. Soon enough they were handing Jake and Mary their food to throw at each other as they recorded. Mary was surprisingly able to miss his aims.

Drew also joined the fight and threw all the food he could find.

The cafeteria was extremely rowdy by that time and then the principal came in. God knows what she had wanted to announce. Mary was on the brink of throwing sauce on Jake and the principal tried to stop her but Mary had lost her grip on the bowl and it came flying on the principal instead.

"You know you three remind me of my high school days" Mrs Smith started.

The trio rolled their eyes, let the story begin.

The detention was eventually over and they stood up to leave.

Mrs Smith threw them hateful glances as they stood up in the middle of her story.

They walked out of the school together.

"Should I drive you home Mary? I have a car and.. " Drew offered.

"Uhm no thanks. My brother is waiting for me in the parking lot. Thank you".

"Listen you seem really cool. I want to invite you to my party it's tonight. I hope you'll come. I'll text you my address I got your number from the school file already" Drew smiled.

"You coming right? Jake?"

"Yeah won't miss it. Come too Mary we might get to settle the fiesta". Jake said.

"Thank you but I'm not a big fan of parties and I have a lot to do". Mary said "But I'll come if I can" Mary added when she saw the disappointment look on Drew's face.

"Mary! Mary! Run here right now!".

The trio turned to the voice. A chill ran through Mary it was Marcus.

"Who's that?" Jake asked hating him already.

"Uhm my brother. See you" Mary said quickly.

"Well he can't talk to you like that" Jake frowned eyeing Marcus. Marcus looked more like a gangster to an older brother.

Marcus was huge. He was standing at 6 feets tall with firm muscles and tattoo. He had the same curly hair as Marys.

"Mary! Here right now", Marcus shouted.

Mary made to run but Jake got in front of her.

"Dude don't get me In trouble I have to go" Mary muttered.

"She just wants to say goodbye to her friends that's all" Jake shouted at Marcus.

"Mary!" Marcus thundered.

Mary shivered and immediately ran to him. He grabbed her roughly and pulled her to the car.

"Do you think there's something wrong about this?" Jake asked.

"Well I guess siblings then" Drew said. He was an only child.

Jake looked at the car as it speed away, he knew something wasn't right.
