I wish I were blind, obvious to the world.
My entire life I have been preparing for this day. I always knew that I was never going to be able to choose whom to marry because of the prophecy. My opinions and feelings didn't matter to anyone.
Not even my father. In fact, he viewed me as a tool to gain more power.
Power that is all that amounted to something to him.
Ever since I was little I would dream of my wedding. It could take place on a sunny day in the garden filled with falling petals and beautiful flowers. But ever since I've learned about the prophecy my dream died along with a part of me.
I would never have a wedding.
"You look so beautiful, Ivory." Came my mother's voice snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Do I, Mother?" I asked with a scowled, fingering the sleeves of the white floor-length dress.
It was a bit absurd how they wanted me to look beautiful, for my last day on Earth.
"As if there was any beauty in being wiped off the face of existence, and that too for power." I barked at her my face void of all emotions.
"You don't believe me?" She asked, her smile instantly vanished.
"I believed you once when you said you would protect me," I answered looking at her reflection through the mirror. "Now, look at us, Mother, you are giving me assurance for my death!" I spat feeling the anger seeping through me.
"Look at me, I know you're ready you can do this," She clenched my hands tightly as if it was her lifeline. "I don't like this either, Ivory. But it's for the clan, we need more power to defeat our enemies." She finishes looking at me with sad eyes.
"Talk to father, surely he will understand," I plead with her. "There must be another way, I want to live, Mother."
"Hush, dear," She whispered pulling me into a reassuring hug. "Don't worry, you can do this, it is for the best, my dear," She whispered gently rubbing my back. "Don't forget the reason why you have to do this, Ivory..."
"Yes, mother," I answered feeling the corner of my eyes burned from the unshed tears.
How could my mother be so blinded by power? That she could side with these peasants to end my tale.
She leaned and placed a kiss on my head. Even though she didn't look shaken I could sense the anxiousness and distress within her.
Flashing her a forced smile I replied, "I can do this."
"Good girl," She let out wrapping her arms around me for one last hug and after a second she let go.
"I'm going to get prepared while the maids continued to get you ready." She explained giving me one last encouraging smile before she left the room.
My chest tightens immediately as the maids began hovering around me. Combing my dark brown hair down my back with beautiful golden hairpins. In the shape of flowers and leaves.
I tried my best to calm my pounding heart, but eighteen years wasn't enough for me. I wanted to live, maybe even make a family of my own. More of all, I wanted to cry out at the injustice happening to me.
A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts, and shortly after a lady came in.
"It's time," She informed me.
I knew it was coming, I've spent my life accepting this crude fate but does anyone actually come to terms with their death?
Letting out a shaky breath, I was taken to the cemetery. Where the cold ones were spread out in their coffins throughout the cemetery. Every step I took felt as if my life force was being drained from me.
"Bring her," my father's voice echoed, and a chill went through my bones.
When I heard the witches began whispering chant words. Before a medallion shoot from one's coffin to her hands.
"How much time till the risen of the beast?" My father asked the old Witch, irritation laced in his voice.
"Patience, he'll be here, I can sense his destructive spirit," She whispered shortly after her eyes rolled over and so does everyone else.
A quick look at the sky explained it was time. It was filled with black Ravens as dry lightning began to strike.
"It's time," She whispered near my earlobe.
Letting out a shaky breath a clasped my hand together.
"Ivory?" My father called with a greedy looked plastered on his face.
As he picked the knife up he took hold of my palm and make a deep slash. I watched as he forcibly dragged me to a midnight shiny coffin. As my blood dripped onto the tomb the witch began chanting while placing the medallion around my neck.
There it was. I'm going to die, it's time my existence wiped away off the face of the Earth.
Yet something unsettling crept into my mind as I looked around. Would it be too painful? Or perhaps I'll be erased from the earth, just like that?
A shiver went through me as he lifted the knife.
God, I hoped at least my spirit is harder to get rid of. That way I could just haunt the cemetery and be a pain in their ass. With that thought in mind, I flashed them a wicked grin.
"Shh... Just relax and let it happened." He whispered in my ears shifting my body just a mere inch on the edge of the coffin.
I wanted nothing but to shove him away, stopping him from bringing the knife to my throat. But how could I? This is my life, my destiny. so instead I closed my eyes I waited for the pain but nothing came.
Just when I was about to open my eyes in confusion, a loud buzz filled my ears and I hissed. What the hell? When a black shadow moved past me swiftly.
Looking down, I noticed thick red blood drops making their way to the valley of my breast, making my dress wet with it.
What's happening?
My confusion didn't linger much longer as pain shoot through my body. Making me scream in agony. Even trying to breathe makes me exhausted, like rain the blood kept soaking me where I could barely recognize myself.
"Make it stop!" I screamed clenching my head.
When out of nowhere, I heard a loud feral growl. My eyes began to close on their will, as the people around me started screaming in pain.
Somewhere in the middle of this bloodbath, I fell to the ground as I felt someone shaking me awake with my blurred vision I saw my mother, with a long slash on her face.
"Ivory run," She choked out.
Despite the pain, I shuffled to my feet and forced myself to move forward. Looking back where I was stood awaiting my death, it was filled with dead bodies, blood was everywhere. I don't know where I was or how far I have run but I fell to my knees as I felt exhausted and the next thing black spot filled my vision.
Not knowing the mishaps of my failure awaits me... If only I knew, I'd prefer to fulfill the prophecy than dealing with the casualties of my failure...
