Chapter Sixteen: Inn And Breakfast

Kenjiro had gotten his ID and had registered as an adventurer in the one day he came to town. It was a lot more simple than he expected it to be.

The ID didn't do much except say the name, date of birth, job and class of the owner of the ID. And then it had the ability that it would only glow for the owner's magic signature when they put mana in it.

It usually glows the colour of the person's elemental affinity. So if it was fire, then it would glow orange or red. Although apparently it could change due to circumstances.

His had glowed a grey colour, which meant that he didn't have an element affinity, or it meant he had all of them. But he knew that he didn't have any, and Saku had tested to see if he had any. But he didn't.

Having no element affinity didn't mean that it was more difficult to learn an element, it just meant if he decided to learn any element magic that it would take a normal amount of time.

Having an element affinity meant that they were more in tune with that element and would learn that element at a faster pace. But it also had the down side that they took longer to learn the element that was the opposite of their affinity.

So if someone had an affinity for fire, then it would be more difficult to learn water or ice.

Although Saku also said that some people gain elemental affinities after traumatic events if it involved one specific element. But if that happened they wouldn't have the difficulty of learning the opposite element.

There were some other factors that could change things according to Saku, but she said it outright that she wasn't bothered to explain unless he paid her to explain so he would have to go to a library if he wanted to learn more.

But Kenjiro didn't feel the need to do other of those things. Although he wanted to use magic, and he probably would use it in the future, for now he was okay with not using it.

Kenjiro also decided to not take a quest right away, and instead find a place to stay for the night.

He had briefly asked Saku for anywhere and she had given him directions to a cheap inn he could stay at. Apparently it wasn't the best but with the money Kenjiro had shown to Saku, this would be the best he could afford.

Not that he was spending all his money on it, no, he was spending a few copper and then he would have some left over for other things he needed, like food.

So with the directions fresh on his mind, he left to go to the inn. He didn't want to go later and then forget where it was and have to ask someone else where it was or go back to Saku and ask for directions again.

There was nothing interesting while he was walking there, the inside of the town was much more quiet then the section near the gate.

When he finally got to the inn he saw what it was like. It was two stories tall and made out of wood, like most things, with glass windows for every room from what he could see.

Kenjiro walked into the inn and saw it had a few people inside. There was a dining hall to his left when he walked in and in front of him to the right was a staircase going upwards to the second floor.

And beside the stairs, right in front of him, was the receptionist behind a counter. There was man behind the counter, he was as bulky as humanly possible, with his arms crossed but had a smile on his face trying to seem less intimidating.

"Hell kiddo, you renting a room for a few nights?" He asked in a boisterous tone of voice. Kenjiro nodded his head in confirmation. "Well, it's three copper per night, and that includes basic servings of food, although if you want more you'll have to pay more. So, how long will you be staying with us for?"

"Three nights." Kenjiro said to the man while bringing his sack to the front so he could grab the money out of it.

"Alright." The man said, nodding his head, as he went into a back room to grab something.

Meanwhile Kenjiro took out his money and put away the money he didn't need to use.

When the man came back out he had a key with a piece of leather attached to it which had a number on it, which in his hand looked tiny. He then put it down on the desk between them while Kenjiro handed him the money.

"Room twelve, just go to the right, you'll find it." The man informed him with a smile, sending Kenjiro on his way.

Kenjiro nodded his head gratefully before heading up the stairs and to the right. There were numbers on the doors so he would be able to find where he was going even if the man didn't say what direction to go in once he was upstairs.

His room was the one second last to the side of the building, which was room fourteen. And across from his room was room thirteen.

He put the key in the door and unlocked the room before walking in.

The room was small, but enough room to have some moving space. It held a bed at one side of the wall, and at the end of that bed was a closet, which the doors of it just opened above the sheets of the bed. And on the side of his bed at the window was a desk and a chair tucked into it, in case he needed to use it.

It was small but comfortable, the room he had in Eisen's was a bit bigger, but he didn't care. At least he had a room for now.

He looked out the window and saw it beginning to get a little late, most of his time was probably taken up at the adventurers guild getting stuff done there.

Since it was getting late Kenjiro decided to call it a night and go to sleep. He wasn't hungry either so he didn't need to get food.

So, he just took off some of his clothes, which were uncomfortable to sleep in and got into the bed, which was more comfortable than the one Eisen had in his house.

Kenjiro fell asleep almost instantly, with the exhaustion of travelling since he left the village it wasn't hard to see why he fell asleep that fast.

Of course that didn't mean it was a restful sleep. In fact ever since his first night in this world he has been getting constant nightmares. He didn't think they would ever go away, no matter how strong he got.

It was a restless night, but he stayed asleep throughout all of it.

When Kenjiro woke up the next morning, although he was rested, he still felt tired. But he knew he had to do something today or he might never do something.

So, with lazy movements he started to put on the clothes he had taken off the night before.

It took him a while as he was still waking up but he did it.

Which reminded him that he hadn't actually had a new pair of clothes or a proper wash since he got into this world.

All of Kenjiro's clothes were practically the same, just a leather jacket, white shirt, and some trousers and shoes. None of it was comfortable but he knew he probably wouldn't be able to afford his own clothes.

Although he didn't mind the clothes he knew he was going to have a proper wash soon.

He was able to semi clean himself in the village by getting water from the well and then using a towel to clean himself.

But for now Kenjiro would focus on getting food, he could already feel the silent rumbles starting to make an appearance.

So now more awake than he was before, Kenjiro started to walk out of his room and down the stairs. It was clear that people were awake as he could hear people chatting while eating.

So he just walked towards the noise and found the… dining hall? He guessed that was the correct term for it. Some women were walking around as maids, so he guessed that they would come to him and ask him what he wanted.

So, Kenjiro just chose to sit at a table in the back of the room that nobody was sitting at. And sat with his back facing the wall and his front facing everyone else in the room.

The reason for him sitting like this, even if it increased the chances of someone seeing his face, was because he didn't like people walking behind him, especially when he was eating. It just made him uncomfortable.

And another reason that just appeared in his head was that it could make him look more edgy, and he didn't really want that. Although he doubted that the people of this world even used the edgy.

And after sitting for a while a person came over. It was a woman in a black and white maid dress with a light brown hair colour. She had a fair complexion and rosey pink cheeks and a smile on her face.

"Welcome and thanks for staying with us." She greeted Kenjiro in a happy tone. She then put down a menu on the table and pushed it towards him. "These are the meals we offer here, if there's anything you have questions about I will answer to the best of my knowledge. If you already know what you want I'll take your order now, if not just call someone when you're ready." She said in an upbeat, enthusiastic but professional tone of voice that was pleasant on the ear to hear.

Kenjiro nodded his head before talking, although he told himself he was only a little bit worried about what she would think about it he knew he was more worried than he would ever admit. "I'll order in a bit."

Her eyes widened a bit in shock and her smile dimmed down before everything returned to what it was before, with Kenjiro not even noticing because he wasn't even looking at her in fear of that reaction. "Ok! Just call one of us over when you're ready." Her voice came out as it was before without any change in it.

Although anyone who saw her reaction might think she was shocked, which she was, or was saddened by it, she wasn't. It was annoying to her, it was scratchy, and gave her a small headache. Why would someone with a voice like that even speak? She thought as she skipped away, keeping up her act as the happy little maid she was.

Kenjiro on the other hand, having no idea about her thoughts, was just a little bit happy. She didn't have an adverse reaction to his voice, a little confidence boost he was sure would go away soon.

He looked over the meals and noticed it was only basic meals. Nothing outstanding on it, but it did say at the top that it was the 'breakfast menu', so the meals would probably change later in the day.

He looked through it while also looking at the prices of it. Guests staying at the inn got a discount while others that just ate breakfast there would have to pay in full. And since Kenjiro was staying there he got a discount.

He brought out his money and looked through it, before he got a rough estimate of how much he could spend. He didn't know how much a mission from the guild would pay him but he was going to go with a cheaper meal to be safe. So, he just decided to order some regular soup, as it was one of the cheapest meals on the menu.

So he called over the maid he was talking to before and ordered his food, while just thinking about what he planned to get done today.

Sorry for updating it a day late, I literally forgot about it. Which obviously isn’t good, but at least I updated. I also don’t have any extra chapters prepared so I might not be able to update it because week or this week depending, but I’ll try.
