Unveiling The Mystery

The next morning, the village of Glenhaven was buzzing with activity as word spread of the beast's defeat. The relief was palpable—children played in the streets again, and villagers exchanged smiles instead of anxious glances. The headman had already begun organizing a feast in their honor, but Gabriel, Lina, and Kain had other priorities.

They stood around the creature's corpse, now covered with a large tarp, as they waited for the headman to arrive. The morning sun cast long shadows over the scene, highlighting the somber expressions on their faces.

Kain kicked a loose rock near the beast's massive paw. "I don't get it. Why would something like this attack a village? It doesn't make sense."

Lina nodded, her brow furrowed in thought. "It was too calculated. Not like an animal driven by hunger or instinct. It knew exactly what it was doing. But who—or what—could control a creature like this?"

Gabriel crouched beside the beast's body, lifting a corner of the tarp to study the creature's fur. "This was no ordinary animal," he said, his voice low and thoughtful. "It was created—twisted by dark magic. Someone infused it with power and sent it to terrorize the village."

The headman arrived just then, his face a mix of gratitude and concern. "Thank you again, for what you've done. The village owes you a great debt. But… you mentioned something last night about this creature not being natural?"

Gabriel stood, meeting the headman's gaze. "This was no ordinary beast. It was altered by dark magic. We need to find out who's responsible and why they targeted your village."

The headman's eyes widened in fear. "Dark magic? But… who would do such a thing?"

Kain crossed his arms, his expression grim. "That's what we intend to find out. Have there been any strangers passing through recently? Anyone who seemed… off?"

The headman shook his head slowly. "Not that I can think of. But, there was talk of a wandering sorcerer a few weeks back. He didn't come to the village, but some of the hunters mentioned seeing him in the forest, near the mountains. They said he was looking for something, but no one knew what."

Lina exchanged a look with Gabriel and Kain. "A sorcerer could definitely have the power to create something like this. We need to find him."

Gabriel nodded. "Do you know where the hunters saw him?"

The headman thought for a moment, then pointed toward the mountains. "They said he was heading toward the old ruins up there. No one goes near them anymore—they're supposed to be cursed. But if anyone could be hiding there, it would be him."

Gabriel glanced at his companions. "We'll head there immediately. The longer we wait, the more time he has to cover his tracks—or worse, create another creature."

Lina frowned. "What about the village? Shouldn't we stay and make sure they're safe?"

The headman quickly shook his head. "No, no, you've done more than enough. We'll take care of the village. But if you can stop whoever did this… that's the best protection we could ask for."

Kain nodded, his jaw set with determination. "Then it's settled. We'll find this sorcerer and put an end to this."

As they prepared to leave, the villagers gathered around, offering supplies and words of gratitude. But Gabriel's mind was already on the path ahead, focused on the sorcerer who had created such a monstrous creature. The ruins in the mountains were their best lead, and he knew that if they didn't act quickly, the situation could escalate.

The journey to the mountains was long and arduous. The terrain grew more rugged as they climbed higher, the path narrowing as it wound through thick forests and rocky outcrops. The air grew colder, and a thin mist clung to the ground, giving the landscape an eerie, otherworldly feel.

Lina broke the silence as they walked, her voice tinged with unease. "These ruins… do you think they're really cursed? Or is that just a story the villagers tell to keep people away?"

Kain shrugged, adjusting the strap of his pack. "Could be both. Curses often have a basis in reality. But whatever's up there, we'll handle it."

Gabriel remained silent, his mind focused on the task ahead. The mention of a curse didn't bother him—he had faced worse in his life. But he was wary of the unknown, of what they might find at the ruins. If the sorcerer was as powerful as he suspected, this mission could be far more dangerous than anything they had faced so far.

As they neared the top of the mountain, the trees thinned out, revealing a crumbling stone structure partially hidden by overgrown vines and moss. The ruins were ancient, their architecture unlike anything Gabriel had seen before. Massive stone pillars lay toppled across the ground, and the remnants of walls jutted out from the earth at odd angles, as if the entire place had been ripped apart by some long-forgotten cataclysm.

Lina shivered as she took in the scene. "This place… it feels wrong. Like the air itself is tainted."

Kain drew his sword, his eyes scanning the ruins. "Stay alert. We don't know what we're dealing with yet."

Gabriel led the way, his senses on high alert as they entered the ruins. The air was thick with an unnatural stillness, as if the land itself was holding its breath. The only sound was the crunch of their boots on the gravel as they moved deeper into the structure.

They reached what appeared to be the central chamber—a large, open space surrounded by the remains of walls and columns. In the center of the chamber stood an altar, its surface etched with strange, glowing runes. A figure stood before the altar, his back turned to them, cloaked in dark robes that seemed to blend with the shadows.

Gabriel's eyes narrowed. "That must be him."

The figure turned slowly, revealing a face hidden beneath a hood. His eyes glowed with an unnatural light, and a sinister smile twisted his lips. "Ah, the heroes have arrived. I've been expecting you."

Kain stepped forward, his sword at the ready. "You're the one responsible for that creature. Why? What do you want?"

The sorcerer chuckled, a low, rumbling sound that echoed through the chamber. "What do I want? Power, of course. And what better way to obtain it than by harnessing the forces that lie dormant in this cursed land?"

Lina's eyes widened in realization. "You're using the curse to create those creatures. But why attack the village? What did they ever do to you?"

The sorcerer waved a hand dismissively. "The village was merely a test—a demonstration of my power. The real prize lies in awakening the full potential of this place. And with it, I shall become unstoppable."

Gabriel's voice was cold as ice. "We won't let that happen."

The sorcerer's smile widened. "You think you can stop me? You're welcome to try. But know this—I am not alone."

At his words, the ground beneath them rumbled, and the air grew thick with a dark, oppressive energy. Shadows began to coalesce around the chamber, taking shape into monstrous forms—creatures born from the same dark magic that had created the beast in the village.

Kain tightened his grip on his sword, his eyes blazing with determination. "We've taken down one of your creations before. We can do it again."

Lina drew her daggers, her stance ready. "Whatever you're planning, it ends here."

Gabriel remained silent, his focus entirely on the sorcerer. His blood manipulation thrummed just beneath the surface, ready to be unleashed. He knew that this fight would be different from anything they had faced before—the sorcerer was powerful, and his creations were fueled by dark magic that could easily overwhelm them if they weren't careful.

But Gabriel wasn't afraid. He had faced darkness before, and he had always emerged victorious. This time would be no different.

The sorcerer's laughter filled the chamber as the creatures lunged toward them, their eyes glowing with a malevolent light. "Come, then! Face the darkness, if you dare!"

Gabriel's eyes hardened, and with a swift motion, he unleashed his power, the blood within the creatures reacting violently to his command. The battle had begun, and there would be no turning back.
