“I hear you’re doing a bit of fundraising, of sorts. I assume in preparation for the child?”

Kelwyn tilted his head to the side, puzzled. “Fundraising?”

“Your mine property, and the company you are founding?”

“Huh? I don’t own any mine.” Kelwyn blinked.

“Hmm. Forgive me. I seem to have been told something in error. You have not been selling shares in a mining company?”

Kelwyn blinked again. Mine shares were a classic con. If he was a better liar he could probably make out pretty well with a con like that, given the high-class circles he had access to these days. The only problem was that the con always eventually fell apart, and then you needed to skip town, which would be pretty awkward, given that Harun had just put down the first payment towards their new house yesterday. “No, I ain’t been selling any such thing. Where’d you hear that?”

“A friend was at Lord Eglantine’s grand ball last night, and mentioned that you were there, mingling, and discussing your new venture.”
