Bleach: Soul Song

Renn was an accomplished musician with a promising career, returning home from a trip to the other side of his country. The following morning, he received a call from a friend that started a tragic series of events, culminating in an early meeting with Truck-kun. He felt every detail of his death, and had already accepted his fate, before realizing things weren't as simple as they seemed when he woke up in a different body in a place he wasn't familiar with, or so he thought. Alone in a new world, he endeavored to understand his situation, and soon noticed a few details that pointed him to a shocking conclusion...

If I have Wi-Fi, who needs a Goddess anyway...

Renn walked around the house, a little apprehensive to meet someone, but his fears were for naught.

"No one home." He concluded.

"But then what was the other bed for? Things aren't fitting together here…"

The house was a two story building, with his room being located on the upper floor, where there was also a small study. Downstairs were a kitchen, living room, and a bathroom. The furniture was of high quality, and inside the pantry were enough things to last for one or two days remaining.

"It's a pretty nice house overall. I don't think a student would be able to afford it, though." That was another thing that didn't fit.

Renn scratched the back of his head, a little confused, but shrugged it off a moment later, "Well, whatever. Let's worry about it after eating something."

Deciding it was not the most pressing matter to deal with, he went towards the kitchen to prepare a makeshift breakfast.

[An hour later…]

Renn had finished eating, and was currently looking intently at the screen of his laptop.

"No superpowers, no magic, not even a Goddess to soothe my heart... What a shitty isekai..." He grumbled, "There could have been at least some kind of special skill for me. It seems this was just a simple reincarnation."

"I mean, I'll take it, but I can't say I didn't have different expectations." Renn smiled wryly, resigning himself to accept what he got.

He had spent the better part of his time looking for information about Ashikawa Ren, who was now himself. Family, history, relationships, anything he could access. He also looked into his current location and the school he was supposed to be attending starting today. His findings were compiled in a text document he had just finished organizing.

"Okay, let's revise everything I've gathered so far." Renn felt like he had somewhat grasped his current situation.

"First, I'm currently living alone in a house in the Minamikawase region of a town named Karakura, in Japan. Location-wise, it's near Tokyo and Yokohama." Knowing where he was felt reassuring for Renn.

"The name of who I am now is Ren, adopted by the Ashikawa family when he was almost three years old, after his biological parents died in a tragic incident. They had a store and were working normally when a gas leak caused a huge explosion and destroyed the building." He had looked into the news articles concerning their deaths, but there wasn't much else apart from this.

"Ren had apparently escaped since they left him at a daycare a few hours before the event. Ashikawa Teruo and his wife Louise took him in, since they were very close friends with his parents, and accepted Ren as their own son." A small smile formed on Renn's face as he thought, 'There are good people in every world, it seems.'

"They had a daughter a few years older than Ren, named Ella, and they got along very well, evident from the pictures and videos I found on the laptop and on social media." Reading up to here, he felt a little weird, a curious smirk on his face, "I have a sister now, huh?"

'I was the only son my parents ever had back then, but I always wondered how it would be to have a brother or sister.' Now learning that he had one in this new life made him feel a little giddy, curious to know what this Ella girl was like.

Looking at their appearances in the videos and photos he found, Renn felt a strange connection towards them, almost like they were his family as well.

Soon after, he became more serious as he continued reading his findings, "They lived together and led a happy life for more than a decade, but it didn't last. Two years ago tragedy struck once again, taking the lives of Teruo and Louise who were traveling alone for their wedding anniversary. They met a landslide along the mountain road, and couldn't make it away in time. Geez, even here…"

'Death is a close thing to everyone, wherever they live, apparently' Renn thought, feeling sadness imagining how it would feel, "Thankfully, Teruo was a very successful businessman, and the de facto owner of the Ashikawa group, which made them filthy rich. He had arranged for Ella and Ren to take over his place in the future, and had left everything for them. With the timing of his death, however, only Ella was of age, meaning she had to take care of everything on her own, including taking care of her younger brother until he was old enough to be able to help her."

'Man, I feel bad for them. She would have just turned 18 at the time, and all of a sudden had a crushing level of responsibility placed on her shoulders. No teenager should have to experience something like this.' This level of misfortune and death is beyond what young people should ever come across — is what Renn believed.

"They had apparently lived overseas for some time, and Ren came back to Karakura, which was their hometown after his sister asked him to." He found this out by looking at the message logs he could access.

"And this is how we get to this point. What a story…" Renn felt sympathetic to them, and came to a decision, closing his fists as a glint of determination flashed in his eyes.

"Okay, since we share the same body… probably, I'll be Ashikawa Ren. I don't know what caused my reincarnation, but they deserve better." He decided to accept this life as also his own.

"The first step is to go to school. Karakura High School is located in the northern part of town, practically on the other side of Karakura, in the Gakuenchou district, which is a little far, but I can get there on time if I leave early." He looked at the time and saw he still had some time before needing to leave.

Renn got up, making his way upstairs, "Let's get ready then."

[Front of Ren's house - Some time later…]

Renn left through the gate after locking the door. The early morning air felt refreshing, and he was more hopeful things would go well.

"Still, this uniform looks a little familiar, I don't know why." He looked at his clothes.

He wore gray trousers and a similarly colored blazer with small touches of red, a white shirt underneath, and brown shoes.

"Well, it'll come to me later if it's something important. Now let's see the map…" Renn took out his phone, which he now knew was actually a cutting edge piece of technology, and searched for a map of Karakura Town. He found it moments later, but what appeared when he looked for his own location made him raise his eyebrows.

"Kurosaki Clinic? Isn't that from an anime? It says it's right behind me…"

When he turned around to search for it, Renn found a building beside his own house, with a big blue sign saying "Internal Medicine - Pediatrics, Kurosaki Clinic".

His mouth went agape, "There actually is one? Huh, so 'Bleach's' locations were based on real life... interesting."

At that moment, a voice rang out loudly.

"Ichi-nii! Wake up! You'll be late for school!"

In response, a male voice sounded from the second floor, "Got it!"

Hearing this, Renn froze as he appeared to have a sudden realization, "Ichi-nii? Ichi.... That sounds... !!" A moment after, his eyes widened like saucers as he stared at the big blue sign again, in disbelief, "Oh my god! This can't be real!"

"Karakura Town, Karakura High School, gray uniform blazer, Kurosaki Clinic... Kurosaki.. Ichi..go..." He muttered absentmindedly as pieces of the puzzle started being put together in his mind, "This... I'm in the world of 'Bleach'!"

Renn facepalmed as his mind raced along the excitement bubbling in his heart, "Everything fits too perfectly to not be true. This changes a lot! Really!"

"Haha! So it really was an Isekai. I knew it! That truck was just too random!" The realization made him feel vindicated.

"And it's actually the world of my favorite anime. This is awesome!" Renn was now behaving like a kid in a candy store. Even the small things and random details he dismissed before earned a different look from his eyes. To him, everything had suddenly become a lot more interesting.

'I remember the sleepless nights when I watched it hidden from mom after curfew. I got scolded so many times too.' Just thinking about it made Renn feel nostalgic, a smile forming on his face.

'It was the first anime I ever watched, and I don't think I could have survived the old man's training if it didn't exist back then' Bleach had a special place in his heart.

'I love this world, this universe, the story, the characters... this is so exciting!' It felt like he was in his teenage years once again, the kid inside him resurfacing after so long.

"Imagine being friends with Ichigo, Chad, Uryuu and the boys! Well, Uryuu can be a bit of a prick at the start, but he gets nicer after warming up to everyone." Thinking he could possibly meet the characters that inspired him so much almost made Renn feel a little emotional, but then a thought crossed his mind, and a smirk formed on his face right after.

"Well, hanging out with the boys is cool and all, but the girls though..." Several images flashed in his mind, and he felt a different kind of excitement, "Man, the women here are PEAK. Yoruichi, Rukia, Rangiku and the women in the Gotei 13 were all waifu material. Orihime and the classmates are cute too, even that Tatsuki girl. Hell, even the villains were hot."

As his imagination flourished, Renn suddenly bit on his tongue to regain his focus, "Calm down, I'm starting to sound like dad right now."

'There are many good people worth knowing here. I hope I can make that happen.' He thought, feeling hopeful for the future.

"I even have a sister still to meet. Even if I don't get to return, if I can build a life here, I think I'll be okay. Starting over is not a problem." This thought seemed to help him calm down a bit.

"Well, there is a problem I can't ignore, however." A bad feeling crept up his chest, "If this is true, my future won't be easy at all." He imagined the potential challenges ahead.

'From a normal person's standpoint, this world is terribly, incredibly dangerous!' Renn thought.

The power dynamics in the world of Bleach were intense, and easily surpassed other series in terms of sheer scale. Any random Shinigami, Quincy or Hollow could completely annihilate him, and the latter would also devour his soul and make him turn into a hollow - a fate he dreaded imagining. Later on, the stronger attacks could level entire districts and whole regions on their own.

There were also the Gotei 13 seated officers, lieutenants and captains, each more powerful than the other. Their captain-commander Yamamoto Genryuusai was so strong it wasn't even a joke.

'The Shinigami's Gotei 13, the vampire-like Bounts, Menos-level Hollows, Arrankars and Espadas, the shinigami counterpart Visoreds, Fullbringers, and Quincys.' Some of the notable groups came to mind, 'Each one of them is a real threat if I somehow antagonize them without having the required power to do so.'

"If I'm just a mob-like existence, a normal human without even some level of spiritual awareness/sensitivity, I wouldn't even know how I died if some random Arrankar decided to suckle the air anywhere near me. My soul would just be some snack for them." The thought sent shivers down his spine.

'Though it is possible to reason, even befriend them as long as I play my cards right, if I don't have any power the only thing I can do is be very cautious and try to live a peaceful life far away from those monsters.'

"A normal human is the most fragile existence here, especially without any power or potential." Renn felt some cold sweat form on his back.

"Hey." A voice sounded by his side.

"The worst are the hidden threats, like that guy with glasses, the vampires and that one very powerful dead king trying to revive himself. I can't afford to be caught off guard, nor get involved unintentionally in something that could lead to an early death. First things first, I need to figure out if the canon has already started, and if not, then estimate when." Renn didn't notice anything, completely into his own world, lost in thought.

"Hey, you've been staring at my house for quite some time already..." Someone called again.

"Since I died before coming here and there was also that transformation earlier, I can reasonably bet it would influence my spiritual awareness and possibly even my energy. That's actually worth exploring. If I'm able to see Plus spirits and Hollows, I'll have a chance to at least know when to run. As thrilling as the situation is, I don't want to end up dying again, even more so like a random bystander. Who knows if there's a third chance, and the pain will be horrible too." The feeling of his own life leaving his body was not something Renn was inclined to experience again for no reason.

"You bastard, I'm talking to you." Whoever it was, they were starting to get angry.

Meanwhile, Renn was lost in thought, formulating a plan in his head while mumbling, "Still, I can't confirm it just yet. Since I am actually a student at Karakura High School, the easiest way to make sure would be to meet someone from the original cast like Chad or Ichigo. Even if it's not them, since I live in Minamikawase, I shouldn't be too far away from anyone in particular." This kind of thing was something Renn is used to doing in order to help process things faster.

"Hey, you dumbass! HOW LONG DO YOU PLAN TO IGNORE ME, HUH?!" They snapped.

At that moment, his instincts alerted him that there was danger nearing him, and Renn unconsciously moved his hands, blocking a kick aimed towards his stomach.

"What was the kick for, you crazy?!" Renn's mind hadn't finished understanding what happened just yet, and he looked at who had just kicked him.

"Hm?" Realizing who it was, Renn was caught off guard, completely surprised.

"What the... You're actually Ichigo!!"
