Chapter 7

The next morning they woke up, they started doing chores like normal. Red Bear went to the chicken coop and discovered two of them were missing, so he continued to gather eggs and brought them back inside.

"Hey Frankie, I think you got coyotes," said Red Bear.

"Why do you say that?" asked Frankie.

"Well two chickens are dead in the coop," said Red Bear.

"What," said Frankie.

"Yes," said Red Bear.

Henry and Lone Wolf walked to the chicken coop and picked up the two dead chicken.

"Nope not coyotes, these paws are too big," said Lone Wolf.

"What do you think it is?" asked Henry.

"Wolves, well a wolf," said Lone Wolf.

"A wolf why so close to here?" asked Henry.

"I don't know he's probably a lone wolf," said Lone Wolf.

"Maybe," said Henry.

Billy looked out the window and saw a man on a horse. Henry and Lone Wolf walked back to the house and they saw the man as well.

"What can I do for you?" asked Frankie with his shotgun. Because he saw a guy dead slumped over on another horse.

"I'm not looking for trouble," said the Sheriff.

Lone Wolf lowered his hat as did Billy.

"I was on a bounty when this man started to shoot up a town, so I'm taking him back to Texas he is a wanted man over in Texas for murder," said the Sheriff.

"Oh so what brings you here?" asked Frankie.

"Well I'm on another bounty, I've been looking for these two for years now, I think I'm getting close. I can feel it," the pulling two mug shots out.

It was Billy and Lone Wolf when they were younger. They looked at the photos. Billy and Lone Wolf looked and smiled, it didn't look like them so they raised their hats a bit.

"Oh, we haven't seen them up, here," said Frankie.

"What did they do?" asked Red Bear.

"They rode into texas and I met with them, I told them no weapons in my town, I asked if they were going to stay long, they said no. So these two people came to my town and killed twelve people," said the sheriff.

"Oh," said Henry it was news to him, he had no clue about that at all.

"Well I'm sure it was a good reason," said Billy.

"There is never a good reason for killing people, I best be going, good day," said the Sheriff left.

"Good day," said Henry.

When the Sherif left, Henry looked at Billy and Lone Wolf.

"What?" asked Billy.

"Lone Wolf, you know better, remember what happened last time, you lucky they didn't kill you like he was ready to do," said Henry.

"I know," said Lone Wolf.

"You both are lucky he did not recognize either one of you," said Frankie putting his gun up.

"Yeah that is true boys, very lucky," said Henry.

So they all walked inside.

"Ready to help Sheriff Jason finish the jailhouse," said Henry.

"Let's go, this time we will be on the roof to fix holes," said Red Bear.

So they all piled up in the wagon and rode to town and arrived in front of the jailhouse.

"Morning Jason," said Henry.

"Morning guys, how are you all doing today?" asked Jason.

"All is good," said Bob.

"That's good," said Jason.

"Well let's get busy," said Henry.

So they helped Jason again with the new jailhouse. Billy, Bob, and Lone Wolf were on the roof with no shirt on because the sun was beating down on them. Red Bear was outside repairing some old wood on the sides of the buildings and Henry was repairing the steps and the sidewalks of the jailhouse.

Ann was sweeping the general store when she saw Lone Wolf on the roof.

"You all be careful now," said Ann.

"We will don't worry," said Lone Wolf.

Ann finally stopped sweeping and sat down the chair outside.

As they were all working a stagecoach came through and stopped in front of the hotel. A young lady came and a young man stepped out of the stagecoach, she was very pretty, long golden curly hair with a sun hat and a yellow dress hat. The stagecoach took off. Henry and the boys stopped and started. Ann looked at the woman then got up and walked back inside, she started to look out the window. The woman told her brother to buy those men working so hard some drinks. They walked over to the saloon and the brother went inside while the woman waited outside the saloon.

"Can I have a couple of drinks for those men working out there?" asked the brother.

"Sure, coming right up sir," said Miles.

So he grabbed a tray and walked out with the drinks.

"Hey she is bringing us some drinks," said Billy whistling at her.

"Such animals," said the brother.

"Now brother," said the woman.

"Mind your manners boys, this a lady, we're not cavemen," said Henry.

"I thought you gentlemen could use a drink," said the woman.

"Yes ma'am, thank you," said Henry taking one and handing them out.

Lone Wolf, Billy, and Bob were coming down the ladder, Lone Wolf stepped off. The woman could not help but stare, she handed him the drinks and he passed them to Billy and Bob and then grabbed one himself. Ann saw this and she had a tear roll down her face while she was watching.

"Darling, come away from the window, you ought to know, he does not like that lady, I know you are waiting for him but he is not into to you like that, you guys are just best friends," said her father.

Tears just kept flowing and she walked away from the window.

"Thank you, ma'am," said Billy.

"You are all welcome," said the woman walking away as did her brother.

"There you go again another good looking woman," said Billy.

"Billy, I don't go with white women, I already had a woman long ago," said Lone Wolf.

"You did? what happened?" asked Bob.

"Less talking more hammering and painting," Interrupted Jason. Jason knew what happened to her and the child because he was there.

"Let's go guys," said Billy going back up the ladder.

Sheriff Jason looked up at Lone Wolf, Lone Wolf smiled and nodded his head letting Jason know it's okay. Sheriff Jason went back inside and sat down on a desk and thought about that day and he wept a little then he went back to work.

When they were finished building the new jailhouse, they all loaded back up into the wagon and went back home and went to sleep.
