Ray had long since escaped the city, and he was heading for a questionable destination.

Jax's conversation with the enforcer couldn't escape Ray's heightened vision, so he understood the situation was taking a turn for the worse.

The time Ray spent in this world was minimal—a few weeks at most. While this gave him a few advantages, such as anonymity, there were definite drawbacks.

One of the biggest things that Ray lacked wasn't a precious item or currency, but a solid backing.

If things stayed as they currently did, Ray would have little to no freedom to do what he needed. However, with powerful entities behind him, it would be a completely different story.

That was why Ray was heading toward the nearest border of the Theokin empire—one of the many warzones against the Demon empire.

Although Ray had no connections, if anyone were to support him, it would be the demons. After all, Ray was a demon himself, through and through. With an appearance like his, he had no place in this world other than the demon empire. Nobody else would accept him.

Gunning for an active battle between the two empires was risky behavior, but Ray didn't have many other options. He had to take the gamble and join the demons, or run around like a chicken, constantly being hunted by humans.

Either way, Ray had his sights on the demons from the beginning. Ever since he understood the power structure of the world, he knew he would eventually end up siding with the demons. It was only a matter of time.

Once he escaped the city's perimeter, the ground was relatively flat, which was advantageous to Ray. Experienced mages used mana to move in the air, so rough terrain only slowed the cultivators.

Each time he took a step, a mass of energy was released into the ground. His footsteps could be easily traced by the cracks centered around them.

Once he left the city, his speed quickened at a pace visible to the eye. With every touch of his foot, he accelerated even further. He hadn't even reached top speed, but he was traveling faster than a bullet train. Any person standing in his way would be vaporized by the speed and toughness of his body.

Normal cultivators couldn't dream of replicating Ray. His level of speed was only possible with ki released at specific times combined with his overclocked state.

Ray's rapid escape caught Jax's eye, followed closely by the enforcer. They gave each other a light nod of understanding, then lept toward Ray.

They had little to no information on Ray, so any time wasted could be disastrous.

Konola City wasn't too far away from the border with the demon empire; there was a very real possibility of Ray escaping, and they both knew it.

"You go on the left; I'll stay behind his right," Jax shouted at the enforcer.

The enforcer took one look at Jax, then gave him a sneer. "Watch this."

His mana was starting to run low from constant teleportations, but his superiority complex as a mage made him show off one more time.

His figure started dissipating into a cloud of particles until nothing remained. He vanished from beside Jax, then reappeared next to Ray a few seconds later.

Despite Ray's sudden outburst, the enforcer paid Ray little attention. He didn't see Ray's strength as enough to threaten himself under most circumstances.

His natural arrogance as a mage was on full display. It was heightened further when he turned to face Jax with a look of pity on his face.

Ray felt goosebumps travel up his spine when the enforcer teleported behind him. His senses were screaming at him to run faster since extreme danger was closing in.

He wanted to panic, but he forced his mind to remain calm. He was already at his physical limits, and panicking would only slow him down. Under situations like these, his only choice was to swallow his fear and maintain trust in his abilities.

Fortunately for Ray, the enforcer didn't attack immediately after teleporting. His mana was dwindling, and Jax was running at them with full vitality. While he was in a truce with Jax, he didn't trust Jax one bit. In a world dominated by power, only a fool would leave themselves vulnerable.

Despite the enforcer's hesitation in taking action, his presence was like a gun pointed at the back of Ray's head. Ray could feel the mage's penetrating stare running through him.

The enforcer's presence continued to torture him for the next 30 seconds. Jax wasn't helping Ray's stress since his figure was catching up, slowly but surely. He might not have the tactics Ray possessed, but his raw power as an organ-refining cultivator couldn't be ignored.

While Ray ran like a graceful gazelle, Jax was storming behind him like a hungry lion.

As the seconds passed by, Ray felt the internal damage accumulating. He could maintain his speed for some time longer because of his cultivation, but the threat of organ failure wasn't far off.

Fortunately for Ray, the battlefield wasn't too distant. After recognizing a few landmarks that were close to the border, a boost of hope rushed through his veins.

Although Konola City wasn't directly at the border, the distance could still be crossed in a short time because of how small the Theokin Empire was. The surface area of the empire was similar to the state of Oregon; there wasn't much distance for Ray to cover.

Jax and the enforcer were natives of the empire, so the truth dawned on them.

"Go faster; he's trying to escape to the demons!" Jax shouted at the enforcer.

The enforcer gritted his teeth, but he couldn't move much quicker. His spells were focused on destruction, not movement. The thought of using the rest of his mana to obliterate Ray crossed his mind, but he couldn't guarantee it would land on target.

"Why don't you attack yourself? All you've been doing is tailing behind him at a safe distance."

Jax didn't respond since the enforcer's claims weren't false. He was banking on Ray slowing down so he could deal with Ray swiftly. If he tried closing the distance and defeating Ray in a single move, he couldn't guarantee his position in front of the enforcer.

In his eyes, either Ray escaped with the evidence, or he acquired the relic and killed the enforcer. Either way was fine, but the enforcer could not be let off with the relic in his hands!
