The Argument

"No way mom! Out of the blue, we're moving to freaking Korea?!"

"Sweetie, be calm, it's not so-"

"Not so bad? Mom what do you mean? You know how hard it was for me fitting in with the Australians and their accent and stuff but now Korea?! They don't even speak English there!!"

"But Eleanor, we have to, our family needs us there"

"Family, you call them family mom? They don't talk to us, they don't ask about our well being but now they suddenly need our help?"

Eleanor asked. Her eyes now swelling up with tears as she ran into her room, closed the door quietly and sank her teary face into her pillow. Her pillowed now soaked with tears since she had been crying for the past 5 minutes. Eleanor's mom gently opened the creaking door, peeking slowly at her daughter with worried eyes to see if she was alright. She glanced through the white coloured walls of the room with a drawing of her mom on the wall, she smiled and slowly, went to Eleanor's bedside and sat down. Eleanor looked up from her pillow and sat straight and said:

"I'm sorry for running out like that but it's just too much pressure at the moment"

"I know, sweetie. With school and stuff it's gonna be hard for you to change schools so suddenly, but just do it, for my sake at least?"

"Okay mom I'll agree to it. Just make sure I'm not sharing a room with my cousins, Jung-kook or Jin"

Her mom chuckled slightly with a soft smile on her face.

"All right, I'll ask Aunt Min-Hye to set out a separate room for you. Thank you for agreeing"

"It's okay mom, it's the least I could do for you. And I'm sorry for what I said the last time"

"It's okay sweetheart. I knew things would have happened this way. Now dry your tears and freshen up. I'm making mashed potatoes tonight"

"Okay, I'll be at the dining soon"

Her mother left her room and closed the door. Eleanor changed her pillow since the once she was using was currently soaked with tears.

She freshened up and had dinner with her mom. They laughed about some things and also talked about how things might not be as bad as they think it will be in Korea. But in Eleanor's mind, she kept reminiscing about how hard it was for her trying to fit in with the Australians but she tried to ware off the pessimistic thought out of her mind. Her mom caught her zoning out a couple of times and asked her what was wrong but she said there wasn't anything bothering her.

Eleanor didn't sleep easily that night. She kept thinking about how hard it would be for her in Korea: the language barriers, the food variety, the education system, the festivals and much more. She kept thinking until she drifted into a deep sleep. When she woke up, she'd prepared her mind that she would accept anything lofe would bring at her in Korea.

Even though she had no idea what was really in store for her there...
