Chapter 14: Taking a Break and Government Agent

Dipper's POV

After waking up from my wild night, the sunlight has been sweeter to me than ever.

"I really need to take more time for myself," I said, looking out the window at the landscape before me.

Since my reincarnation, I've done nothing but study and invent things.

In my previous life, I wasn't really passionate about science or studies, but currently it has become a kind of addiction for me.

I have a hard time preventing myself from tinkering or studying.

Apart from that, I also notice, after my discussion with Bill, that I have accumulated a huge mental fatigue.

It has to be said that managing a demon in your head is not easy.

So I'm taking my day today without science; anyway, Mabel is still recovering and there is nothing really dangerous that could threaten Gravity Falls, at least for now.

"I should just warn Mabel about Bill, in case he comes to meet her," I conclude as I put on my clothes. Unlike the original Dipper, I like to vary my outfit a little.

Before leaving my room, I took my U-Watch, but also the amulet I had recovered from Gideon.

On my way, I crossed paths with the chambermaids and Adrien who seem to be occupied with various tasks, and I must admit that the Northwest family has good taste.

"Good morning, Mr. Dipper, you are up early today," says Adrien in a polite tone.

"Good morning, Adrien, yes, I had a rather eventful night," I say, frowning slightly.

"I see that Miss Pacifica and Mabel have caused you trouble," he says with a slight smile.

We exchanged a few polite words before we parted ways.

I was back alone in the hallway of my house, my destination was of course the kitchen.

I haven't just read books related to science, and I like to prepare something today.

"Hummm, it's good," declared Mabel as she devoured the dish in front of her.

"Dipper, who did my parents pay to be your cook?" Pacifica asked.

"It's a bit strange, the food wasn't as flavorful yesterday," Pacifica thought, a bit confused.

"I'm the cook," I said nonchalantly as I continued eating.

"WHAT?" Pacifica and Mabel shouted in unison.

"Is that so surprising?" Dipper asked, furrowing his brow.

Although he remembers that, before his reincarnation, Dipper wasn't really talented at cooking, seeing Mabel react this way is slightly offensive.

"For your information, cooking is just chemistry, so another field of science," he explains as he continues eating.

["I would really like to taste the food of my future husband,"] Gifany suddenly declared on Mabel's U-Watch screen.

This sentence completely changed the atmosphere of the room, and for an unknown reason, I felt uneasy.

Stan Pines' POV

"That's good, Wendy, you can take a break," I say without too much thought.

"Yes," she declares, rushing outside to join a group of teenagers.

After her departure, I closed the Mystery Shack for the afternoon. The reason is that there were no customers, and I doubt this lazy little Wendy will come back to the post.

"Too bad Soos is unavailable today," I mutter as I head to the basement.

*Ding ding*

"Who could that be?" I let my honest thoughts slip as I make my way to the door.

"Hello, Mr. Stan Pines, we're from the FBI," declares the man in official attire.

"And what honor do I owe your presence?" I ask, observing them more attentively.

One was a middle-aged man with black hair, a dark gray mustache, and a headset. He had a mole above the right side of his mustache.

I could tell he was also studying me, and the other seemed less experienced. He had light brown, short-cropped hair.

At a glance, I can say that the older man of the duo, who had spoken earlier, is surely the highest authority of their duo.

"Mr. Pines, let me introduce myself. I am Agent Powers, and this is Trigger," he says, gesturing to his partner slightly in the background.

"The reason for our presence at your home is to investigate the tragic death of the Gleeful family," he explained, looking me straight in the eye.

I've already dealt with a lot of cops in my life, so I know when they have me in their sights, and this one seems to already have me in his sights.

"The local residents have told us about your, shall we say, complicated relationship with young Gideon..."

He wanted to say something else, but I immediately interrupted him by raising my hand.

I don't like where this is going, and I prefer to avoid having cops come snooping around the Mystery Shack.

"Sorry, sir, to interrupt you, but you're starting to make extremely dangerous and serious statements," I say, narrowing my eyes at the agent called Powers.

"Sorry if I may have used language that could have offended you, Mr. Pines, but we are conducting an investigation, so I would ask you to cooperate, sir," he responds firmly.

It seems this guy named Powers will be extremely difficult to handle.

"Okay, go ahead, ask me your questions. Anyway, I have nothing to do with this story," I reply, weary of the psychological game they've been trying to drag me into since the start of this conversation.

After they asked me to report on my activities last week, specifically on the day of the Gleeful family's death, the two FBI agents finally left.

"I should slow down my portal-related activities with those around," I say to myself mentally as I close the door.

Powers' POV

"What do you think of him, Trigger?" Powers asks his partner on the way to their vehicle.

"My instinct tells me he's innocent, but he reeks of a criminal," Trigger simply replies.

"I also think he has nothing to do with this story, but it's true that he is suspicious," I say in return.

"Do you think he's linked to the paranormal activity that is the basic reason for our assignment in the sector?" Trigger asks seriously.

"I'm not sure, we'd need to get a search warrant to search his house. And you know how annoying the prosecutors can be," I explain, frowning as I remember those bastards who play the know-it-all while we're killing ourselves for the nation's glory on the field.

"Let's report to our superiors that we're going to continue investigating the mysterious death of this family, after all the autopsy revealed they were all drugged during their death," I say, frowning.

Although I was already on another mission, I can't refuse this one and let a killer capable of killing an entire family on a whim remain free in the wild.

"Sir, I think we're going to have complicated weeks, since our killer seems to have no motive for his murder," Trigger declares wearily.

He wasn't wrong, and that's why I'm leaning towards a supernatural case, and if I'm right, this story falls within the department of our base mission, which is to unravel the mystery of Gravity Falls.

Author's Note: Yes, Dipper messed up, and it's time he dealt with his shit like a grown-up.
