Chapter 58 Tears

The town was more peaceful than Sera had anticipated in the first place. There were only so many in this remote location, thriving in the barren lands to survive. Local folks busily walked around the streets of the town, minding their own business despite having conversations with everyone. In other words typical town for normal folks but he didn't notice something.

The church in the town seemed extremely weird. One could say it didn't have any belonging in this town's style like it was placed in the middle of the town without any reason.

" Welcome, lambs of the lord. How can I help you?"

Sera didn't notice the odd-looking priest. His head was bold and his eyes were like a snake. Furthermore, he wasn't questioning their clothes or purpose like he knew something about them.

" Hello, Father. We came from the headquarters as delegates. I would appreciate it if you connect us to the headquarters and request for aid."

The priest didn't his expression in front of his words, seemingly expecting Sera's words in the first place. He simply put his hands behind his back, feigning some care for them.

His eyes darted between their bandages, plotting something in his heart as he imagined the possible outcomes.

" You must be tired from a long journey. I will arrange some accommodations in the church."

Before the priest could finish his words, Gabriella cut his talk with a polite tone. Her eyes didn't leave his face, noticing something amiss in his tone. She was perplexed about the situation because she felt he was too shady for a priest.

" Don't worry about the accommodations. Our friends are allowing us to be with them. You just have to contact the headquarters immediately."

The atmosphere between turned tense in a single second Sera couldn't understand what was happening, but one thing was sure in his mind. No matter what the priest said, he would always side with Gabriella.

" Ah, is that so? Then if you need my help, you can come here again. As for the request, I will personally write my name on the letter to ensure the authenticity."

He then turned around to hide his cold expression while heading toward his room. His mind was racing about how to eliminate his target because he didn't have much time. The townspeople believed in his lies, thinking the former priest went back to his home but it was a matter of time before his identity would be revealed.

" This is inquisitor Johan. Prepare for night assault."

He motioned his teammates with his mouth movements to avoid their suspicion. His objective was to eliminate the surviving members of the corps and to ensure that the church had to do nothing with this.

Meanwhile, Gabriella was still frowning when she recalled about that priest. She noticed his attire was different and he seemed to have some kind of training by his behavior which meant the priest was hiding something from them but she couldn't prove her idea since he acted too clean.

" What are you thinking, Gabriella? The priest said he would send the message. We will be leaving for our home soon."

Sera's tone eased her expression a little bit, yet she couldn't shake off this feeling of oddness. It was like something was dragging her ankle into the deep mud.

" Nothing. I am just tired. Perhaps we should rest early tonight since we will be busy tomorrow."

Sera flattened his lips, showing his disappointment on his face but he didn't dare to say it in front of her. Her mind was still unstable and she needed rest, so he respected her boundaries.

Besides, Marcus said women tended to be mysterious in front of their men and they liked hiding their words. Hence, he had to be patient with her.

" I understand. Call me if you need something. I will be waiting outside of your tent."

Gabriella smiled softly when she heard this, understanding he was giving space to her. She gently kissed his cheek which made Sera blush like a young boy.

" Then I will be outside."

He quickly fled from the tent, leaving her in her thoughts. The room wasn't cool or warm, so it was comfortable to think without any distractions.
