CHAPTER 10: HOME, SWEET, HOME.
Toni and Iris were sprinting, down different alleys, crossing roads and taking the passerby walks, as Toni led the way to her house as Iris followed from behind. They were getting stares from fellow passersby who gave them suspicious look about the way they were running.
One even called the police and I formed them about the little girl and the teenage who were running with such speed, as if they had stolen something.
The Force officials received the information and quickly dispatched some troops to go and scour the area and report back any unique finding, that could help us locate the girl, and the teenager.
Meanwhile as after they left the main skirts of the city, they reached an abandoned and fallen bridge that would never be repaired ever again, due to the rocky and unstable conditions of the place.
Toni and Iris came to a stop as Iris knees over, panting, she had been running nonstop for 55minutes now, trying to keep up with Toni who didn't even break a sweat.
How was this possible, a girl of 10, or barely 10, wasn't even this tired after the marathon, they just had. It looked like she was taking a causal walk in the park.
Don't worry, you will get used to it from time, especially when we start running from the Force officials. Toni said giggling a bit as Iris stood up slowly after recovering her breath.
Well, where the hell are we anyways? Iris asked looking at Toni.
Welcome to your newly found paradise. Toni exclaimed spreading her hand up, as she turned to look at Iris, who looked totally confused.
Iris, looked around in every direction, but everywhere was empty, scanty, scarce. She looked at the little girl who was still smiling with her hand spread out wide and raised an eyebrow.
Is this a joke? We are on an abandoned falling bridge, is this the so called paradise, even if it is, where is everyone else? Iris asked getting a little angry.
Are you sure that it is only a bridge you see here? Toni asked as she edged closely to the edge of the fallen bridge.
Iris looked alarmed as she said,
Toni stop please, let's just go. What are you doing? That drop is over a thousand feet and I can't swim...and you are ten. You could swim but there is nothing but miles and miles of water and nobody is here to save you, so please do not do anything worth regretting, because I do not want to watch another person die, in front of me today. Iris said as she tried to pull Toni back.
Ahh, don't...m Toni said raising up a finger.
Remember, death fingers.... I do the holding, here. Toni said as Iris withdrew her hands.
Oh okay, fine just come let's go, before the soldiers regroup and finds us. I am sure that there's an alley where we could hide safely for the meantime, until we think of a plan. Anything, but let's just leave now. Iris said impatiently, as she stamped on her feet, arching back a bit as she ruffled her head.
Toni rolled her eyes and sighed, Oh ye of little faith. And here I was hoping that you would give me a little benefit of the doubt.
Benefit of the doubt? We are on a fucking bridge that has already fallen, any benefit of the doubt will be gone too. So now can we leave or I am going to turn and walk out of here, and not look back. Iris said trying to threaten her in coming back with her.
Haven't you ever heard the saying? Not everything looks like it seems, and there are doors, hidden in plain sights. Well, it is up to you, but I hope you would give me a chance to prove myself. Just come to the edge, and take a big leap of faith with me, and let's see what happens." Toni said as her feet were already beginning to slip from the bridge.
Toni, don't you dare? Iris said threateningly as she held out a finger and marched to where she was, to pull her back, notwithstanding the fact that she could, die, but before she could reach her, there was a big bang which could only be made by a gun.
Toni had already fallen off the bridge as Iris rushed to catch her but failed, turning back, she saw that the soldiers has regrouped and now they were up to 25. She didn't stand a chance, with them.
She ran and jumped off the bridge as she closed her eyes waiting for the inevitable end.
After about three minutes, with her eyes closed as she stilled waiting for the water, but never came, she fell splat on the ground, as she groaned, and held her head.
Looking sideways, she saw Toni lying beside her, as she tried to reach for her to check if she was still alive.
Just then Toni groaned as she sat upright in the front and muttered,
I knew I should have just called Sally and told, her to come pick us up, from the park.
Are you okay? Iris asked as they both stood up.
Yes, I am just peachy. Toni said as Iris looked around the place and said,
Whoa, where the hell are we? She asked looking at the magnificent mansion, beautifully erect, and divine.
Like I said, home. Come with me, I can't wait to show you everyone. There will be so happy that you are one of us. Toni said as they climbed the steps up.
As they got to the door, Toni paused and said
Okay so this is it, you're so, going to be happy here. I can feel it; my family are the nicest people everywhere. Toni said as she pressed the doorbell.
Just then the door opened, revealing teenagers either carry weapons or in a battle mode with their powers ready to go.
Don't you dare move? One of the attackers said as both Iris and Toni raised their hands up in surrender, faster that they could even breathe.
Like I said, home sweet, home. Toni whispered to Iris slowly who rolled her eyes.
Just great!
