Guardians of the Multiverse

A light burst open in the dense darkness and a small speck exited. The speck screamed as it tumbled through the darkness. It finally came to a stop, recovering his breath a shlubby-looking human wearing jeans, socks, an untucked t-shirt, and a grease-splattered Superman apron floated.

He looked around but didn't see anything but darkness. The light tunnel he flew through closed behind him and other lights softly lit.

The vision before the man horrified him, giants! He was an ant before fearsome giants. The man swung and flapped his arms trying to get away, but he couldn't move from his spot.

"Jacob Isaacs" an ominous voice called out. The man paused, the terror on his face didn't lessen, but it was painted with slight curiosity.

"Jacob Isaaacs," another ominous voice as deep as the universe spoke out.

"Yes?" The man responded. Once he responded, he felt his body floating up until he floated directly before the giants. He could make out their faces, now.

They didn't continue to speak, but Jacob examined them, one after another. At first, his fear prevented him from making any meaningful connections. Now that he calmed down, however, he was shocked.

"Impossible!" he shouted out.

He continued to look and the light of recognition filled his face, but what he recognized couldn't be!

"It's impossible, is this a dream? My dreams are always vivid, but never to this extent. This entire situation is impossible."

"What makes it impossible?" A feminine voice asked. Jacob looked off to his right and saw a gigantic slender female with short white hair, and a purple, white, and red dress. Her eyes withheld the beauty of the cosmos, her limbs thin and frail as summer wheat. Her skin was a pleasant pinkish color.

Jacob looked at the strange beautiful yet fragile-looking creature. He swallowed his saliva.

"The being to your left, and the one at the far right of the table. I know them, and I know that they aren't real."

"Who are we to you?" A blue-skinned alien with a bald head but white hair on the sides wearing red robes asked him without moving his lips.

"You, are a Guardian of the Universe, a being from the planet OA. The glowing green flame at the end, if I'm not mistaken, is the Flame of Ufe."

"How do you know us?" The Guardian asked.

"I've read about you since I was a child. The Guardians of the Universe are the founders of the Green Lantern Corps. The green Flame of Ufe is the energy that empowered the original Green Lantern Alan Scott. It was later renamed the Starheart."

"Very Good, Jacob Isaacs, you have recognized me, but there is more to me than the little mentioned in the stories you read about. Like my friend Khandi, I am also a Guardian of the Universe, but in my worlds, things work a little different.

I gave the power of my flame to Alan Scott, but instead of creating a Green Lantern Corps, I created Green Lanterns, individual champions to protect their world and root out evil."

"We are all Guardians, and we all have armies of champions. I am Uha and my Guardians created the peacekeeping force the Cosmic Legion. Our champions wear the rings of power of the purple energy waters." The beautiful, but fragile woman next to Khandi said.

"All of you are Guardians of the Universe? But each of you is different." Jacob said.

"Yes, but each of us is the head Guardian representing an infinite number of Universes. The multiverses we rule, all have one thing in common. Each of our unique armies exists in every universe under our command.

We aren't merely Guardians of a Universe, but Guardians of a Multiverse. We have gathered to form the Guardians of the Multiverse." Khandi explained.

"Guardians of the Multiverse? Then you must have an army, maybe one made up of each of your champions. Was I chosen to join your army?" Jacob excitedly asked.

"In one sense you are correct," Uha began.

"In one sense you are incorrect," The Flame of Uhe, continued.

"What do you mean? How am I right and how am I wrong?"

"We did not select you to join our army, but to create our army?" Khandi said.

"Huh?" Jacob was totally confused.

"We have chosen you, who has mastered the knowledge of many multiverses, to use your unique insights to create a peacekeeping force that will root out threats and evil that would harm the multiverses under our rule." The Flame of Ufe said.

"You will choose champions to work with you and form a new kind of corps," Khandi said.

"You have been chosen to create, train, and lead a new force that will champion justice, protect the innocent, and destroy the darkness of evil with your light."

Jacob was in awe but his awe gave way to confusion.

By knowledge of the multiverse you are referring to..."

"To the illustrated tomes called Comics that you have read and studied your entire life," Khandi said.

"So, reading comics has led to me becoming a superhero, that'll show everyone who said I was wasting my time!" Jacob said.

"Indeed, your knowledge will not be wasted and will help you create a firm foundation as the founder of a new Lantern Corps," Uha said.

"A new Lantern Corps? What color will it be?"

"It isn't a Lantern Corps of color but of power.

"What kind of power?"

"Let us show you," Khandi said.

The dark space around Jacob lit up as countless beings appeared. There was no end to them, but as Jacob examined them, he realized they could be split up into two groups. The first group was that of beings who were all dressed in a strange but recognizable costumes. One half of the costume looked like Batman, while the other side looked like Superman.

These were all versions of Composite Superman, a villain with the power of both the Justice League and the Legion of Superheroes!

The second group of Beings was not beings at all. It was an endless collection of Amazo androids!

"What kind of Lantern Corps do you want to make?" Jacob couldn't help but ask in fear and shock.

"One powerful enough to protect the Multiverses!" Khandi replied majestically.
