Yuè waited for the horse to come to a stop before taking another deep breath. The bird still sat on his shoulders, feathers ruffling in the slight chilled breeze and he nudged off gently. "Do not leave me." He whispered so quietly as to not let Payton hear him.
Finally a small inn rose in the distance, its thatched roof covered in snow. Lord Payton pulled on the reins, then hopped down from the horse and rubbed his hands together.
"Come, my beautiful. Let us get some warmth." He grinned, gold teeth shimmering as he held a hand out to Yuè.
Yuè dismounted the horse without taking his hand, moving past him and towards the inn. Everything about Payton disgusted him to his core. He would be glad once he was rid of the man. He could kill him to make things easier.
That thought caused him to pause.
Kill him? The man was disgusting, but Yuè could never lower himself to murder. The thought was enough to almost make him sick.
