These aren’t actual “lost episodes”. This fan fic will be my interpretation of things that have been left unresolved. At least unresolved to me. Enjoy!

Lost Episode #2: Part 1 - Avatar State

Disclaimer/Author's Note: I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender nor its characters. The Avatar series belongs to Nickelodeon, Michael Di Martino, and Bryan Konietzko.

Timeline Placement: This lost episode takes place sometime before the unaired pilot episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender. At this point in time, Aang has already learned of his Avatar status. For some context, use this link: http://www.nickalive.net/2020/09/full-episode-avatar-last-airbender.html?m=1

Aang and his airbending master, Gyatso, are meditating at a cliff side near the Southern Air Temple. Gyatso stands up and says to Aang, "Aang, I believe it's time you learn." Aang opens his eyes and replies, "Learn what?" "The Avatar State. The pinnacle of the power of the Avatar."

"What is the Avatar State, Gyatso?" Aang asked. Gyatso answered, "The Avatar State is a powerful state of body and mind that only the Avatar wields. It will be a great utility in your arsenal once you master it." "Do you think I'll master the Avatar State, Gyatso?" Aang asked. Gyatso answered, "It is not that easy. Who knows how long it could take before you even enter the Avatar State for the first time. It could take weeks, months, maybe even years. However, I do believe you can master it."

"Really?" Aang asked. Gyatso answered, "Yeah. Really."

"Follow me, Aang. I have something to show you." Gyatso ordered. They walked into a very spaced-out room with a large statue of a woman with Air Nomad robes and long hair reaching to her shoulders.

Gyatso pointed up to the statue and asked, "Aang, do you know who this is?" "Of course Gyatso," Aang answered. "That's Avatar Yangchen, the last Air Nomad in the Avatar Cycle." Gyatso replied, "Right. Avatar Yangchen was the sneakiest of the Air Nomads in her time. However, she would find herself in dire situations." "Does this have anything to do with the Avatar State, Gyatso?" Aang asked with curiosity in his tone. "Why yes, Aang," Gyatso answered, "An Avatar who hasn't mastered the Avatar State awakens it either from emotional distress or from instinct."

"Instinct?" Aang asked, confused. Gyatso said, " Yes, instinct. Survival instinct. When an Avatar is in a situation that might very well threaten their life, their need for survival taps in and they awaken the Avatar State. Now come. I have something else to show you."

Aang and Gyatso enter the tallest room in the Southern Air Temple, standing at 55 feet tall. In the room, there were statues of previous Avatars in circles. "Look up, Aang." Gyatso said. Aang looked up, and his face shifted as he was shocked yet amazed. There was a stair cases that swirled upward in a circular fashion to the ceiling. The case was filled with many more statues of previous Avatars.

"Wow! There are so many!" Aang said as his voice echoed throughout the room. Gyatso said, "These are your previous incarnations, Aang. When the Avatar enters the Avatar State, each one of the statues' eyes glow. There is a lot I want to teach you about the Avatar State, but I want to show you something even better than this." "Then let's go!" Aang said with excitement. "I can't wait!"

Aang and Gyatso are now at the cliff side that they previously meditated at. Aang stood at the edge of the cliff with Gyatso standing behind him. Gyatso ordered, "Now Aang, when I show you this, you must not use airbending no matter what. Understand?" Aang responded, "Yes, Gyatso." Suddenly, Gyatso pushed Aang off the cliff with airbending.

"WAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!" Aang was screaming as he fell lower.

"Remember, Aang!" Gyatso yelled from above. "Don't use airbending no matter what!" Aang looked down and yelled louder as he got closer to the ground below the temple. Then suddenly, before he hit the ground, a sphere of air surrounded him, and his blue arrow tattoos and grey eyes glowed blank white.

Aang had entered the Avatar State.

Via his air sphere, Aang levitated back up to the cliff side. Gyatso watched in amazement as Aang stepped onto the ground in the Avatar State. Aang then exited the Avatar State, exhausted. His arrows and eyes became normal.

"Uh… what happened?" Aang asked, exhausted and confused. Gyatso answered, "Aang, you did it. You entered the Avatar State." With this realization, Aang hugged Gyatso as they jumped up and down in celebration.
