Xiao gazed at his surroundings. A freezing night breeze swept the snowy tundra as he scanned the horizon for any sign of life. Sadly, it was dark out and there didn't seem to be anything that stuck out to him.
So, Xiao went with his old strategy, deciding to walk until he found civilization. As he walked, Xiao saw a group of otter penguins and ran over, cutting ones head off with one stroke of his sword.
The others ran away while Xiao set the body alight with his violet flames. After a while he started eating.
It wasn't his best work, but the penguin didn't taste awful either. And though he thought these creatures were cute and would rather not kill them, they were the only food source around so… yeah.
After finishing his meal, Xiao continued walking. It was a clear night, and the moon shone down, making the blanket of snow-covered ice sparkle.
Xiao walked for hours, soldiering through the ache he felt in his exhausted legs and keeping himself warm via circulating his energy.
The sun finally rose, and with it Xiao's hopes of sleeping fell. From then on Xiao walked with his head hanging low, his eyes on the ground as he simply focused on putting one foot in front of the other.
Xiao liked to think he had extremely good stamina and strength, however days upon days with only a bit of rest and continuous strenuous activity has left him exhausted.
Finally, as Xiao was about to collapse from exhaustion, he bumped into something.
Looking up, he saw the it was a wall of ice. "Oh my god finally." He mumbled as he collapsed into the snow and started to snore.
'I'll just have to hope that someone sees me. I don't think I can walk another step.' Xiao thought as he fell asleep.
When he awoke, Xiao was still laying there, in the cold. Judging by the fact that the sun seemed to have moved backwards while he slept, he came to the conclusion that he had been sleeping in the cold snow for a day at least.
As he tried to get up, Xiao realized he couldn't feel his feet at all, and could just barely feel his hands. 'Shit.' He thought as he started circulated energy. He laid there for over an hour, waiting for his sense of touch to gradually return. As he began to feel his feet once more, Xiao felt as if they were getting stabbed by hot needles.
"That hurts." He muttered, willing himself through the pain until he was able to stand. Looking up, it was around midday.
Xiao stretched, listening as his joints popped and his bones creaked.
Then, he took off his boots and shot jets of violet flames from the soles of his feet, propelling himself on top of the wall of ice.
When he reached the top and looked within, Xiao was surprised.
He seemed to be at the top of a large hole in the ground, at the bottom of which was what seemed to be a section of spring amongst the endless ice of the North.
Flowing rivers and green grass and trees, wooden bridges spanning the flowing water.
Xiao laughed and jumped down, using his flames to slow himself down as he reached the bottom.
'Maybe I should just stop wearing shoes…' He mused, realizing that it would become annoying to constantly have to remove his footwear if he wanted to use his flames on his feet without burning them.
As long as he kept a little bit of energy inside his body, Xiao would be eternally warm, so he didn't really have to worry about his feet freezing off.
Xiao snapped himself out of his thoughts as he looked around. The air was quite warm here, so he took off his winter suit, leaving himself in his normal kimono and black clothing.
Then, he started to explore. He walked throughout the various paths that wound their way around the clearing. Xiao stopped at a pond, looking down to see two fish, one black and one white, swimming in circles.
"How neat! Never seen two fish do this before!" Xiao exclaimed as he looked down at the fish.
As Xiao looked at the fish, he slowly zoned out, seemingly entranced by the endless circling of the two fish, and soon he sat down to continue watching them.
He sat like that for hours, just watching them continue to swim in circles. Eventually, his eyes became empty, and he fell into a dream-like state.
Xiao woke up and looked around, seeing the change in scenery he immediately knew he was in the spirit world, but instead of the endless fields that he was used to, he instead seemed to be sitting on an island, surrounded by an endless sea of water.
Looking up, Xiao saw countless stars and the moon standing tall in the sky, unmoving.
"It's been a long time since a son of fire has come to our domain..." A voice emanated from the water. It seemed to come from everywhere so Xiao couldn't tell where the thing speaking was.
All he could gather is that the being speaking was ancient and powerful. And yet strangely, he didn't feel threatened in the slightest.
"This is true. Our own children have been guarding us for many centuries, so it is understandably so…" Sai a second voice, sounding very similar to the previous one.
"Who are you?" Xiao asked, confused and slightly frightened.
"We are push and pull." Answered one voice.
"Yin and Yang." Answered the other.
"Although you may call us Tui and La" they said together.
