Subsequent Fall Part 53.9: That's no Moon

The three fireteams were in a gunfight of their lives as they sent the command out to have the Everlast be pulled out and away. They pushed deeper into an airlocked storeroom as the vacuum took the forces away from the initial entrance. "What's the plan?" Virgil asked as all thirty of them were still healthy and able, no losses yet.

"On this mission, it doesn't matter past the success of three things, killing Jaqueis, stopping the station from attacking, and eventually blowing the station up." Wolf looked as the station map was finally uploaded to their display as they had gotten the security code while fighting in the initial landing.

"So we split up into three, the hardest goal for Fireteam Angel? Then the two high priority requests by us?" Falcon pointed at himself and Wolf. Falux nodded as he tapped the shoulders of the two other elite leaders.

"The faith I have for you is not understated or understood. So please do not fail me." Falux pointed to the doorway as they prepared themselves for the fight to truly begin, the reactor was more than five miles through security doors, checkpoints and many robots.

Once the door opened and the gunfire filled the empty frame they paused for a moment. Falux flicked his wrist down as a shield fired to life, taking charge of the mission as his squad started down the hallway.

"Which one do you want Wolf, the Jaqueis battle or taking down this stations main weapon?" Falcon asked as the freteams were crossing their fingers. Falcon turned around as the glare from him made them realize there was no guaranteed way out.

"Well, I feel like there are better odds of one of us accomplishing our goal if they had more members, I'd rather go the airsoft route and go alone, taking down Jaqueis." Wolf looked over as the others looked at him.

"Why so you could leave with us unsuspecting of everyone while we are here?" Viji spoke highly out of line as he knew Wolf's history when it came to missions like this. "Better yet, take two from the other squad and head to the bridge." Viji was irritated, they all knew their past missions before joining up with Astral.

"Deal, Virgil, Dante, you two follow Wolf to the bridge and eliminate that scummy piece of dogshit before trying to slip away." Falcon gave the command as he looked to the rest. "We have to make it to their superweapon. I don't know how its powered or processed. But we must take it down." Falcon walked over to the door as he welded it down the middle, the other six stood behind him as he began to charge.

Wolf pointed to the ventilation system as he, Virgil and Dante crawled into it. Once they got going their part of the mission was the quietest. As they were crawling through the vents they opened up to be large enough to stand in. They raced down the open corridors and paths as they needed to get to the bridge as fast as possible. Once they reached a vent that led directly to the bridge. They started their laborious climb upwards for miles.

Falcon held the steel door in front of him as the bullets ricochet off of it, allowing for him to cover the rest of the team as they were making their way to the command center of the super weapon. The office was empty and soulless as the fireteam looked around at the monitors seeing that there was nothing guarding the weapon, confusing them. "What now?" Emfemfe asked as she took off her helmet to look at the systems.

"Nate, Josh, seal the entry door and require them to blow it down to enter. Atlas, get into their systems and see where the tunnel leads to." Falcon pointed the room as he figured out what this was, a trap. "Put your helmet back on, this entire room sounds like trouble." Falcon looked down the giant hallway as there was nothing down it but doorways.

"Sir the hallway leads to the reactor room for the weapon. If I have enough, I may be able to wire it to detonate a small charge then a larger one on itself. The technology behind this is amazingly sophisticated." Atlas looked at it as silent footsteps surrounded them. Atlas felt the breath leave his body as a blade pierced his armor.

The other six looked at where he stood as a man with an invisible blade stood there, the blood seeping all over the weapon as Atlas clung to the console, determined to activate the chain reaction to disable the systems. "Clinging to life are we?" the man twisted the blade on its way out before in one motion, beheading Atlas. His helmet hitting the ground softly.

Falcon raised his rifle and opened fire as the rest of the fireteam cleared from the bullet paths. Once they were, Nate and Josh turned their attention behind Falcon. Robots were marching down the hallway to overwhelm them. The two of them opened fire around Falcon as he dived into cover.

The man charged at Emfenfe with his blade as she pulled out her daggers. Looking over Vector was ready for the killing blow when it came down to putting the man down. He had other plans as he threw his blade directly into the chest of Vector as they had no time to react. She watched as he threw punches that shattered her outer shell of armor. Trying to block and stab him with the daggers, he took her hand and set the dagger into her skull. "Nate, Josh, down the hallway now!" Falcon shouted as he came up with a plan on the fly. "Viji go with them and make sure you seal the exit." Falcon threw a smoke bomb into the room, hitting the button that uploaded the superweapons core and plans.

"You think smoke can hide you or your attacks and strategies?" The man asked, his accent strongly slurred with his speech. Falcon moved around the room and placed a couple of things. Tips he had learned from Airsoft from following along in the short time he had with the man.

Once the smoke cleared it stuck to the man, plenty visible. "You can't save your friends or yourself. Death is the fate you choose." The man pointed the blade at his neck as Falcon was shot from behind as the robots marched to the room. Rolling right he pressed the button on his gauntlet as all the robots became accelerated into the room. Crushing him and the invisible man to death.

Falcon remained broken beneath his armor as he coughed, covered in the robotic mess. "Heh, death my old friend, I was never afraid." He dropped his head as he relaxed for the moment as peace hit his mind. As he looked around all he heard was silence and darkness as he rested for the final time.

Nate, Josh and Viji looked around as they were finally in the center of the superweapon, it looked alot like the refraction tunnel. "Viji, if we leaned the last one inward on itself, would that work?" Nate asked as robots slowly started to fill the room.

"I can do that, as you two take out the robots and set charges across the others with fuses that touch the glass and can shatter the seals." Viji sprinted forward towards the last one as Nate and Josh spread out across the room taking out the robots with ease as they climbed the various rafters across the chamber. The robots stopped firing at them due to their close proximity to the refraction tunnels. Nate and Josh noticed this as they opened fire on the bots who couldn't fight back.

Viji was able to pull the paneling down and swung the final refraction chamber downwards with his armor and momentum. Landing on the ground he shattered his ankle by landing wrong as the bots turned to him. Being gunned down in an instant Josh reached out his hand to save him as it was too late. "Josh, look behind you." Nate tapped his shoulder as the center beam was charging.

"WE NEED TO MOVE!" Josh was cut off at the tail end of it as the beam fired forward and evaporated the both of them. The beam traveled forward until it hit the last one as the shot went in three directions, up, down and straight back. It broke the outer shell of the station above it as the explosions sealed the outside of the weapon.
