The girl standing at the door looked to be at most eleven or twelve years old, rather short, wearing a warm white thick coat, with faint steam rising from her woolen hat—she appeared to have run all the way there, and was still panting when she saw Morris, but quickly a bright smile bloomed on her face.
"Are you Grandpa Morris? Mom asked me to deliver this," she stretched out her hand, handing over a key, "It's the key to the basement, Mom said she forgot to give it to you when she left."
"Ah, thank you, young girl," Morris reacted, taking the key while nodding, "Come in and warm up, won't you?"
Just as the girl was about to speak, Duncan's voice suddenly came from behind Morris, filled with a bit of surprise, "Annie?"
Duncan's gaze drifted beyond the old scholar's shoulder, staring at the girl standing at the door somewhat astonished.
It was indeed Annie Barbey—the daughter of Cristo Babeli, captain of the Obsidian—that he had met previously at the cemetery entrance.
