Chapter 14: Healing

"If this is some sort of honeymoon phase, I don't appreciate it," Amelia groans over the phone.

"It's not that, I promise." Grayson chuckles for the first time all day. "We wouldn't do that to you. But Jude's being stubborn about you not knowing until he has it under control."

"Level with me, Carter. Should I be worried?"

"I don't know. I'd be a little worried first, and then when you're tired of that, you can move to p*ssed off for a bit, and then you can settle on gratitude."

"Is that what you did?"

"Uh, no. I'm pretty sure I've skyrocketed straight to numbness, but that's just the most productive thing for me right now."

"...For now I think I'll just be glad that you two aren't just skipping work to canoodle. I can take a lot, but that's a mental image I'd rather not have."

"Don't be nasty, Amelia."

"I'm just saying, you're already staying the night at this boy's house… You don't want people to think you're easy, do you?" Amelia mocks in a thick southern accent.
