Work

Ring Ring!! The now unfamiliar sound of her phone ringtone broke the empty silence in the living room.

" Hello?"Hi Miss Lu, it's Michael, the HR department manager at Zeus Group. I've been notified that you have not signed in yet for work so I wanted to know if you are running late"

Zeus Group? Work!? she thought shocked.

Oh right, I forgot that I was still working during this period. After living in the apocalypse where there is no order and proper jobs where the only work you worry about is feeding yourself and surviving, she kind of forgot what ordinary was.

"Um, No I will not be coming in today. My son has a very high fever and I have to take care of him so I can't report in." Sorry baby Qin, Mommy needs a day off to sort out my plans for the future and to process all that's happened, so you can only be my little scapegoat.

On the bus, Qin Lu felt a cold chill run down his spine.' I wonder who is cursing me '

" But rest assured I will clock in tomorrow sir." Emilia continued. "Oh alright Miss Lu, I hope your son feels better soon. See you tomorrow"

"I hope so too, Bye"

Whoa, that was a close one. Unlike all other rebirth stars in apocalypse novels, Emilia did not plan to quit her job just yet. For one, her job was her little family's only source of income. Plus she honestly wasn't sure whether the apocalypse would still come as planned a year later so she would keep a way out for herself just in case it does not come. Who knows her rebirth might have disrupted some things.

Another reason she didn't quit was that her job gave her access to quite a few necessities for the apocalypse. Important necessities. Food.

Emilia worked as a food scientist in one of the country's largest business groups, Zeus International. Through her job not only does she get access to all sorts of seeds, canned food, and even farms.

With her job, she can visit farms during routine checks where she can get seeds and even learn how to farm. Knowing how to grow your food during the apocalypse where food is scarce, is a huge advantage.

She can also find a way to lengthen the shelf life of canned food in the labs as well as get access to a large variety of tools. It also gives her a large number of contacts who might just have access to what she needs.

Even though she had the advantage of knowing what would happen because she was reborn, she also wasn't confident that she would have enough time on her hands to develop or improve the shelf life of products on her own, so help from colleagues with these tasks would be great. Plus she had spent so much time in the apocalypse that she was sure that her skills had deteriorated and she did not have the confidence and the time to raise them back to her peak so continuing to work at Zeus Group was her best and cheapest option.

The salary is also quite large as she rakes up to R250 000 annually. That amount of money would be of great use during this time of preparation since the world still runs off of money.

No matter how she looked at it, this job gave her a huge headstart so quitting it was a stupid action. An action she wasn't going to take.
