Chapter 157: I heard her making noises for quite a while
Before the door was even opened, Wu Heng already knew it was Wen Mansa knocking.
The newly unlocked [Soul Energy Sense] allowed him to clearly sense the person outside and the connection created by their contract.
He hadn't thought much of it in the zombie world.
But now, thinking carefully, this 'trait' was actually quite useful.
Whether for scouting or preventing sneak attacks, it would serve well.
"Master, who are they?" Wen Mansa frowned, her expression instantly cooling.
Meanwhile, Minnie and Andveil, hearing the other call him "Master" as well, looked surprised.
Wu Heng introduced, "Minnie, Andveil, new maids. They'll be living here from now on."
He then pointed at Wen Mansa, "Wen Mansa, leader of the Spikes Gang. Call her Sister."
The three looked at each other.
Minnie spoke first, "Sister Wen Mansa."
Andveil stood up and gave a slight bow.
In terms of age, Wen Mansa was the oldest, and as the leader of a gang in Rentam City, gangs represented power, not disgrace.
Instead, it symbolized a high status, a vast difference from being a slave.
Hearing she was a gang leader, the two sneaked several glances at her.
It seemed their Master was even more impressive than they had imagined.
A gang leader was also a servant.
Wen Mansa raised her head slightly, her expression cold, and lightly responded with a "Hm."
She hung her coat on the rack by the door, dressed in brown leather armor, and walked slowly into the living room.
Once again, she transformed into the dignified and imposing gang matriarch.
"Wen Mansa, have you eaten?" Wu Heng asked.
"No."
"Sit down and eat with us." Wu Heng said directly.
Wen Mansa walked over and sat down next to Wu Heng.
Minnie brought a plate from the kitchen and placed it in front of her.
"How old are you?" Wen Mansa asked while eating, her gaze shifting to the two.
Minnie, feeling intimidated by her presence, replied quietly, "16."
"22." Andveil also said softly.
"How did you become Master's maids?"
The atmosphere suddenly became tense.
Minnie glanced up slightly, answering softly, "Master bought us."
"And you too...?"
"Wen Mansa, finish your meal first. We'll talk after." Wu Heng interrupted her questioning.
It was starting to feel like an interrogation.
Wen Mansa didn't say anything more, smiling slightly while eating and telling Wu Heng about local gang matters.
After dinner.
Minnie and Andveil began cleaning up.
Wu Heng said, "Wen Mansa, come with me."
...
They went up to the third-floor study.
Wu Heng closed the door.
The four skeleton witches had been sent to the zombie world after the two maids moved in.
They could still read and learn skills there.
"Master..." Wen Mansa began to speak.
Wu Heng's expression turned cold, "Hands on the desk."
"Ah?" Wen Mansa saw his expression and placed her hands on the desk.
Wu Heng searched around the study but couldn't find anything. He grabbed a slipper from the floor.
Smack~!
A crisp sound echoed.
"Still trying to use those gang tactics here, bullying people, huh?"
Smack~!
Another slap, and Wen Mansa let out a soft hum.
Still a bit defiant, she said, "Who told you to bring in two young, pretty maids behind my back, and they're both non-human."
Wu Heng paused in his actions.
It seemed he sensed the insecurity in her words.
Compared to the two outside, Wen Mansa was indeed older.
Wu Heng put the slipper down and sat beside her, patting his thigh.
Her face flushed, but her resentment faded.
Rubbing her backside, she walked over and sat on his lap.
"Were you worried?"
"Now that Master has two new maids, will you still like me?" Wen Mansa asked softly.
"You're so good, how could I not like you?"
"But they're both so young, and they're non-human. Don't men usually like that?" Wen Mansa continued.
Wu Heng wrapped an arm around her, reaching to undo her leather armor, "You're not worse than them, relax."
"So who do you like more?"
Wu Heng, seeing her expectant gaze, took off her leather armor and tossed it aside, continuing to undress her.
Finally, she was left wearing only a thin black lace undergarment.
He lifted her, laying her down on the desk.
"I like you."
"Hehe, Master is so nice." Wen Mansa wrapped her arms around his neck.
...
In the first-floor living room.
Minnie ran down from the second floor, holding onto Andveil's arm, whispering, "Master is hitting her!"
"Stop eavesdropping." Andveil said.
"But it's true, he's saying she bullied us, so he's hitting her." Minnie quickly added.
"Really?"
"Yeah, it sounded pretty harsh. Those two slaps were really loud."
Andveil also glanced upstairs and said softly, "If Master is dealing with her, she won't bully us anymore."
"Mm-hmm, we don't have to fear the gang either." Minnie whispered.
...
Inside the study.
Wen Mansa gritted her teeth.
Wu Heng covered her mouth, and his thumb was caught in her tongue, sucked like a baby.
After a while.
The two lay side by side on the desk.
"You're working harder than usual!" Wu Heng said softly.
"No choice, I have competition now. The day Roche came back, he wanted to use me as a bargaining chip to gift me to the White Wolf Gang." Wen Mansa chuckled, lying against his chest.
"Don't overthink it. We don't abandon or give up."
"Mm. Now it feels really nice to have a Master." Wen Mansa sat up, kissed him, and continued, "Master, I've got news on that wanted criminal you asked me to investigate."
"Oh? What news?"
Wu Heng had been dealing with the Changyingzi area in the zombie world these past few days.
The guild had completed no major tasks.
Plus, he needed to build up more merits to quickly rise to the rank of deputy steward.
He had to focus on capturing wanted criminals.
Wen Mansa stroked his muscles and said, "There's intel that a group of robbers hijacked a shipment and plans to sell it to make money to escape. They've been in contact with some gangs outside the city recently."
"Robbed a caravan? It's not the 'Warhammer Gang,' is it?"
"No, the Warhammer Gang has their own channels. These are just some robbers, but their leader is definitely a wanted criminal, or he wouldn't be afraid to enter the city." Wen Mansa shared her guess.
Aside from wanted criminals from the guild, ordinary murderers and robbers were allowed into the city.
Rentam City didn't care.
If they couldn't enter the city, there was a high chance they were wanted, and likely a high-priority target.
"Where are they? Are you planning to trade with them?"
"In an abandoned stone building outside the city. We're not trading with them, but another gang from the outer district is." Wen Mansa said as she climbed on top of him.
Wu Heng frowned, thinking for a moment, "When's the deal?"
"The day after tomorrow. I came early to inform you."
"Good job, Wen Mansa. As expected, you're reliable."
"Oh, stop it!" Wen Mansa playfully slapped him but then worked even harder, whispering, "If Master plans to intervene and kill them, I'd like to take over the goods. It'll be a big help for the gang."
"If there are goods, you can have them. But the team has other members, so we'll have to split the profits."
"Give me a discount, and I'll pay up."
Wu Heng laughed, "Alright, if we get the goods, they're yours."
"Thank you, Master."
After some more fun in the study.
The two left the room and headed to the bedroom.
Ready to rest.
...
The next morning.
Wen Mansa gently helped him get dressed.
She said with a hint of envy, "I'm really jealous of them, being able to be by your side every day."
"You've been complaining all night. You're the big sister now, so act like it and take care of them more." Wu Heng gave her a light smack on the butt and said.
"I know! I won't be mad. After all, Master likes me the most!" Wen Mansa clung to him again, softly asking, "Master, do you like me in the wildcat outfit or last night's outfit?"
"Last night's."
"Hmph, just as I thought. Now that you have non-human maids, you don't like my wildcat look anymore."
"You're doing it again."
The two of them flirted for a while before heading downstairs.
After breakfast.
They were about to leave and tend to their respective matters.
Before leaving, Wen Mansa took out two coin pouches from her pocket and handed them to Minnie and Andveil, her expression still that of a cold gang matriarch. "I came in a rush and didn't bring any gifts. Take these and buy some necessities."
The two girls were stunned.
Instinctively, they accepted the heavy pouches, unsure of what to say.
"Uh, thank you, Sister Wen Mansa." They quickly thanked her once they recovered.
Wen Mansa nodded, "If anyone bullies you, come to me. There are some things Master can't step in to handle, but I'll deal with them for you."
After saying that, she smiled at Wu Heng and left with the skeletons.
Wu Heng felt a bit speechless.
It seemed his words last night had worked.
At least, she was acting like a proper big sister now.
Though the street vibe was still strong.
After saying a few more things to the two, he left the house.
Minnie tugged on Andveil's arm, whispering, "See? Master hit her last night. That's why she's acting so nice today."
"Yeah, it's better for us this way." Andveil agreed.
"It seems Master was hitting Sister Wen Mansa all night. I heard her making noises for quite a while."
Andveil paused, her face turning slightly red.
She pinched Minnie's cheek, "You'll understand in a few days."
...
Off to the guild.
At the front desk, he picked up four letters.
He entered the empty lounge.
As the captain, Wu Heng rarely came to the guild, so it was no surprise the other members didn't show up either.
He sat on the couch and began reading the letters.
The first was from Madam Slater, and the first half was a normal update, describing recent events in Blackstone Town.
The latter half, however, showed more care, though nothing explicit.
She mentioned visiting Rentam City in a few days to select some girls to replenish the personnel at the Golden Cat, and she would come to see him then.
The letter had been delayed at the border due to the Warhammer Gang's issues.
Madam Slater had arrived before the letter did.
Now that their relationship was confirmed, the formalities in the letter seemed unnecessary.
The second letter was from Yuli.
It was full of complaints about how boring Blackstone Town was.
Nothing fun to do, and nothing tasty to eat.
Then she asked him for a recipe for making potato chips, planning to make them herself so the skill wouldn't be lost if something happened to Wu Heng.
"Gee, thanks, dear niece."
If she was craving them, she could just say so instead of acting like he wouldn't be around for long.
The third letter was from the former captain, Otruluk, discussing work matters.
The fourth was from the former member, Kavina, who first apologized for not replying sooner and then shared news from her side of the guild.
Her experience was similar to Wu Heng's.
Kavina hadn't reached level 8 but had become a captain through the recommendation of a steward and her level 3 merit.
Because of that, she had been given cold looks since arriving.
Unlike Wu Heng, who had plenty of cards to play, like handling wanted criminals and completing tasks,
Kavina came across as rather unremarkable.
She had been promoted awkwardly, and it showed.
Her letter was filled with discouraging words, and her mental state seemed very poor.
Wu Heng grabbed some stationery and began writing replies.
As for Kavina's situation, there wasn't much he could do. All he could offer was some words of comfort.
He couldn't exactly mail her a gun.
That sort of thing was one of his trump cards. Unless the world already had such weapons, he wasn't about to let it spread.
After finishing his replies,
He handed them to the front desk.
Then he took out his tablet and snapped a photo of the newly posted wanted notices.
Not having anything else to do,
He quickly left the guild and wandered around the city.
...
In the afternoon.
Wu Heng returned home.
Minnie had gone to help at the shop that morning, so no one was home.
He tidied the study a bit, then went directly to the zombie world.
In the middle of the residential area, there were three piles of corpses, each two meters high.
Wu Heng first stepped out of the neighborhood to take a look.
Across the street, the supplies Li Yanhong and her group had gathered were stacked in cardboard boxes, forming a large pile.
"You lot, come over and move these into the neighborhood." Wu Heng called over a few skeletons.
The skeletons lined up.
They began carrying the supplies into the area.
Wu Heng stood at the entrance, directing for a while.
He then walked back inside the neighborhood.
Looking at the mountain of corpses, he cast [Battlefield of the Dead].
A grayish-white ring of light spread out.
Large chunks of flesh fell away from the corpses as skeletons rose one by one.
They joined the ever-growing skeleton army.
Wu Heng sat inside the neighborhood, reading a runic book, waiting for his mental energy to recover so he could continue summoning skeletons.
Near dusk.
Wu Heng stood outside the neighborhood with Li Yanhong.
"How are the new recruits from yesterday?" Wu Heng asked.
"No issues so far. They're obedient and have been assigned different tasks. The women and children are scavenging for supplies, and the men are taking shifts making iron spears and throwing spears." Li Yanhong answered.
Wu Heng pulled out a throwing spear he had bought from a weapon shop and handed it to him.
"This is a standard throwing spear, use it as a reference."
The throwing spear was slightly different from the short spears Li Yanhong had been making.
Both ends were sharpened.
The head was heavier, designed to pierce the ground when thrown.
Not like throwing a metal rod to smash someone.
So, the spears made from rebar still needed some adjustments.
"Got it." Li Yanhong nodded.
The two sat and chatted for a while.
Wu Heng reminded him to rally a group of loyal followers and ensure proper management.
After talking for a bit, they parted ways and returned home.
Wu Heng used the portal to return to his residence.
Wen Mansa didn't come today, and Andveil shared some news about the shop.
The three chatted for a while downstairs.
Then they each went to their rooms to rest.
