We ran for a nearby brick wall as shots stopped and footsteps stormed down steps. The man who was injured by the pipe bomb started begging for his life as the attackers started talking between themselves. The situation was causing tension to fill the air around us.
"Let me go please!" The injured soldier yelled over and over.
"Shut the fuck up!" One of the attackers yelled as stomping and screaming filled the air before the sound of breaking glass interrupted it.
The sound of the soldier choking on the air he was breathing in seemed to cause the men to get annoyed. The sounds of their voices seemed to grow with anger before they shot him finishing him off. That was the last thing we heard before more of our soldiers yelled for them to lay down their guns. When they refused a wave of bullets slammed into the wall that stood between us and the enemy as well as busting the windows on each side of us.
"Is anyone still alive up here?" The voice was muffled as it came over the radio.
I let out a sigh of relief before speaking. "Yeah two of us are on this floor. I think two more of us are still on the floor above hiding from our attackers."
"Alright, Let's see if we can help them." The voice fizzled out as fast as it came before footsteps went up the stairs.
We followed after covering up the body of our fallen soldier. As we got up there the scene was horrifying. Bodies laid everywhere covered in cuts and bullet wounds. One of our soldiers was laying against a wall wheezing as he struggled to continue breathing. His head was bobbing up and down as he tried to stay awake. He had a smile on his face with blood coming from the corner of his mouth.
"The building should be secure now sir." His voice was so light that it could barely be heard over the static in the radio.
I waved over a medic to see if they could save him, but he died in the middle of his treatment. I ordered four men to take the dead down to the bottom floor and make sure they are covered. If we didn't have to deal with this fog we would be able to have less issues. Off in the distance the artillery continued to thunder. Every ten to fifteen minutes a building would collapse.
The radio static roared to life as a voice came through. "We have swept our building and secured it. We heard gunshots from your building is everything okay?"
I shook my head before speaking. "We lost four men, but we got the building secured now. See if you can use a thermal scope to get an idea of our surrounding. We are going to see if the radar can find the enemy around us at all."
"Yes sir."
I set up the radar system up while someone took the dish for it to the roof. The pulse finally went across the screen. I felt a sense of relief that nothing had shown up yet. I sat watching as another pulse went across the screen with nothing showing up.
The radio roared to life. "Sir we see a hot metallic object on a roof about 1.7 miles away from here."
"Can you tell what it is?"
The static was a shorter roar this time. "No sir the heat is too strong to get any details."
"Nothing has shown up on the radar yet either. Keep an eye on the building and tell me if anything changes."
"Yes sir."
An explosion shook the building as the next pulse rolled out revealing that the building had been surrounded. The radio roared to life with static but it stopped as the building beside us had started collapse. It was too late when I recognized the building was coming towards us. I started to run as the buildings slammed into each other. The shaking caused me to lose my footing and fall forward.
A set of hands pulled me to my feet as a voice came over the radio. "We need to fucking go right now!"
Above us something made a crashing sound as one of our men feel through a window from the other building to ours. He let out a grunt of pain as he hit the floor. We went to save him, but his mask was busted so we just pulled his lifeless body to the others.
I activated my radio. "We need help right away the building next to us collapsed into ours. We don't know how many of the other unit is still alive. We have six still alive in my unit with four to five dead right now. We have one who was on the roof that for now is MIA until he can be found. Send back up now please. Artillery fire danger close now!"
Shortly after my message was finished artillery slammed around the building that we had been in. Men could be heard outside screaming in pain as the artillery continued. Soon gunfire came from the building that was leaning against ours.
The radio came to life again. "Building one to building two is anyone still alive down there? Well in either building?"
New chapters for TSTSTW will be coming soon. I have found out how I want to finish the second Vol of that story. These two series will fall into a conexisting timeline with Vol 2 of this story and Vol 3 of that one. Thank you again for reading this story.
