Jack's Fate

I got home that evening to meet Mr. Andrew with the family looking dull and pale, no one needs a prophet to tell that they're starving, I happen to be their saviour for the night as I had bought some bread and fishes for the night. I called out to Mr. Andrew and handed over to him all I bought with some extra money for the morning, I saw in his face one of the brightest smile ever as he thanked me to infinity.

The night was filled with much laughter and storytelling, which is partly the tradition of the Andrew's at every moonlight, the parents tell stories about the Nigerian Civil War, and the amalgamation of the North and South region of Nigeria, sometimes they vent into stories on their beliefs and the introduction of Christianity to Nigeria, other times they tell stories on myth and fictions. It was never a boring night with the family.

The night had really come into full power as the cold sea breeze swept passed our nostril, the children are deeply asleep, Mrs. Andrew had slept a long time before the children, which is; so unusual, but I got to know that she must have had a busy day in CMS market. Left awake was Mr. Andrew and I, he was a bit dizzy and I knew he was waiting for the next right time to ask where I got the money and food I gave to him, he saw this moment as the best time to ask, before he could utter a word I spoke out "I met this young man on my way to Victoria Island, he was attacked by some agbero and I somehow helped to get him off, we went on to V.I and before he left he gave me some money and invited me to Ikeja Mall, that's the money I used in getting the bread with fishes, also the same money I gave to you".

Mr. Andrew nodded and said nothing, so strange that I had to ask "just that? you won't say nothing?" with a smile on his face he said "I believe you, but..." pausing to hold my hands and bringing them close to his face he said "you must be careful, a lot of things happen these days, some people are kind to others for some reason, while some show kindness to lure innocent people to their hideous lifestyle and gang, you must be careful and be sure this young man you speak of is clean, for the money he gave to you, we really appreciate, extend our appreciation to him when next you meet with him."

Mr. Andrew's fear for evil has been part of him, his belief and experiences made him reason such way before making any decisions.

We both smile and laugh at some silly jokes he made, bidding each other goodnight, we lay side by side in the small room, I had my phone's alarm set for 6am in the morning. Not much sleep into the night my phone's alarm blare out waking everyone up.

I got up to prepare and head out to the Ikeja mall, Mike Spencer had given me few money for transportation making the journey easier and faster, I got to the mall a minute passed 10 'O'Clock and went straight to the payout point to ask the receptionist about Mike Spencer, no one seems to know someone of such name, then I decided to wait at the customer's seat, while there waiting I had fallen asleep, the noise from a kid crying for the mother to put him in the shopping cart woke me from sleep, and I checked the time to see it was 30 minutes passed 3 'O'clock, and there was no Mike Spencer around the mall, lucky enough I had some money left that will be enough for transportation back home, I decided to go back home. I stood up from the chair and left for the bus stop.
