THE two of us were breathing at a steady pace now. Just a few minutes ago I thought I was going to lose myself as I struggled to control my wolf from going too rough on my mate. I pushed myself off of Tara and saw that her eyes were still closed, her lips slightly parted. As I couldn’t resist myself, I lightly brushed mine over it. Her eyes fluttered open at the contact; it was bright as she looked up at me.
Most of my weight was still on her so I sat up on the couch but not without tugging Tara with me. She now sat on my lap, her head nestled on my shoulder.
“It’s guilt,” she said softly.
“What is?”
“I feel guilty for exposing Diana and now, she could be pregnant. She could be carrying the next Alpha of Old Oak and I don’t think she would survive the wrath Alpha Dennis and Oscars will hold over her head.”
I lifted her face so she was looking at me now. “Don’t blame yourself for this. She killed people, Tara. She deserves to be punished.”
