Sitting like a King

AMELIA POV

A gentle pat on my face woke me up. When I opened my eyes, I saw a blurry picture of my friend Nikita watching over me. As we exchanged gestures, a genuine smile spread across my lips.

"It is already morning, Amelia. Wake up."

I sat down slowly and stretched out my arms. A soft moan escaped on my lips as my body grunted due to stretching. My sleep last night appears to be fine. I did not get disturbed.

"Good morning, Nikita." I ecstatically returned her greeting. I stood up with a broad grin on my face. "Thank you for allowing me to sleep peacefully in this room. I owe it to you."

Nikita only chuckles in response to my statement. She is now standing in front of the vanity inside the room. I noticed her often scanning her reflection in the mirror.

"How is your sleep, Amelia? Have you had a nice dream last night?" her tone captivated me as she asked.

I shrugged my shoulders and furrowed my brow. My subconscious mind began to recall the dream I had last night. My face flushed as I vividly remembered something scandalous had occurred. I was kissing a man!

"Nah, but you can say that my sleep was good enough to wake me up in this mood." I lied because I did not want to tell her about that.

Nikita gave me an eye roll. She look disappointed. I can tell she had an early shower because her hair was soaking wet. It remains wrapped in a towel but she is now fully clothed. After she brush her hair we are now ready to go.

"What time did you get up?" I inquired and looked at the backpack I had brought with me.

I placed it on the side of the bed.

"I just got up. Don't you see?"

"Are you sure? Please refrain from making fun of me. I know you get up early." I countered, "If you just woke up, how did you take a bath?"

She looked at me with surprise in her eyes. Her lips moved slightly. I know exactly what she is thinking. Nikita is a very outspoken person. She loves to state the obvious, just like I was raising a question about the apparent answer.

"Probably. I went into the bathroom—"

"I do not mean that. What I mean is that how come when you spend a long time in the shower? I am familiar with you and your bathroom habits. Don't deny it." I interrupted her sentence, cutting it mid-way. "So you can not excuse that you just woke up. You must get up a few hours before me." I told her to clarify what I meant because I knew her personally.

When it comes to this topic, she is a little sarcastic.

"Ahhh, that?"

She veered around away from me, returning to face herself in the mirror. She is about to take off the wrapped towel from her head.

"Do not ask me that kind of question. Leave me alone. Don't ask me. Is that clear?" she replied, her tone is heavy. I have no idea what she implies. "Get up now, and get yourself ready. Our breakfast was already served. It is very uncomfortable for my cousin to wait. He is the one who is expecting us to go out before him."

Quickly, I sprang out of bed. I folded the blanket and bed. Guilt is already wrapping my entire body at this point. I realize that I am not at home, and not in Nikita's apartment, to be comfortable. We are literally in someone's residence. And I only just remembered that.

"I apologize, Nikita. I will take a shower as quickly as possible, or within five minutes. Don't you dare leave the room without me! I might lose my way later if you leave me alone here." I expressed in a hurry, grabbing my towel and sprinting to the room's bathroom.

After five minutes, I was done. I fulfilled the promise I made to Nikita. I will take another shower later. The important thing is that I appear normal in the eyes of those seated at the table.

"Wow! I do not expect you to be able to move fast, Amelia." Nikita complimented me with a clap, but it was a sarcastic tone. I made a face.

"It only happened now. I will take another shower at your place later because I feel like I only took a half bath." I announced, chuckling.

Nikita's boisterous laughter filled the whole room. She was laughing at me again.

"Come on, we need to hurry," she spoke out, seeing that I had finished brushing my hair.

She was the first one out of the room. I simply followed her silently. I wanted to say so much more, but I held back. I remain silent. This is not the appropriate place for a conversation. I will have plenty of opportunities to do so later on when we live in the apartment together. As I stared behind her back, I was unaware that we had arrived at the mansion's dining room.

"Amelia, take a seat. Please make yourself at home. Do not be timid." Nikita gave me an order, unhurriedly sitting down and making the air fairly heavy. "Eat anything you want until your stomach is full."

Her cousin Rofus had already taken a seat at the end side of the table. He was on the distant side, sitting like a king. I mean, he is the owner and was most likely the king. One of his hands is holding a document, the other is holding a cup. From my perspective, he looks spectacular. Every aspect of his physical appearance exudes authority.

"Good morning, Rofus!" Nikita greeted him cheerfully while waiting for his response.

Rofus did not even give us a glance. He did not greet his cousin in return too. The wind was blowing eastward. The deafening silence at the breakfast table rises, which makes me uneasy. His entire attention was fixed on what he was reading. I am not sure whether he heard Nikita. Perhaps what he was doing was more important, and he could not stop even for a moment.

Nikita ignored him as well, simply shrugging her shoulders. She appears to have done this before. She pointed to some food, and the servant rushed over to push them closer to her as if they were all hers.

"Amelia, what are you waiting for? Go get some of your food. Do not wait for my cousin to make a first move because he will remain here for as long as he wishes. We might only make it to midday, but Rofus has not yet done drinking."

My lips cracked when I tried to force a smile to conceal my real impression. This is not the real Nikita, I know. She was not a bully.

"My apologies. Do not be upset with me. Also, your voice is quite loud. Please turn the volume down." I whispered leaning slightly toward her.
