Chapter 6

Lucian was looking down, but he could feel her staring at him.

All of a sudden, he looked up and asked, "Do you find me attractive?"

Adira froze as soon as she heard the question.

Why was he asking her this all of a sudden, she though. Perhaps she didn't hear him right or that wasn't what he meant to say.

"I'm sorry?" She pretended as if she didn't hear him the first time.

"I asked if you found me attractive," Lucian repeated himself, staring at her. He had no idea those were the words about to leave his mouth earlier, but since he had already asked, he might as well find out.

He noticed that she didn't stare or ogle at him like all other ladies did and it bothered him so badly. Would be bad would it be if his mate didn't find him attractive.

"Ummm..... I......I......" Adira stammered, not knowing what to say.

Yes, she found him super attractive, but how exactly was she supposed to answer this question. She didn't want to say anything inappropriate and she had a feeling this was a trap.

Lucian noticed that she struggled to answer his question and he sighed on the inside.

"Okay, let me ask this another way," he said.

"If I asked you out, would you agree?" He asked.

"I'm your personal assistant so you can ask me to go anywhere with you," Adira replied and he smiled.

"You know that's not what I meant."

"If I were to ask you to date me, would you agree?" He asked again and Adira once again became at a loss for words.

"You are with someone already," she replied and Lucian raised his eyebrow.

"Huh? What made you think so?" Lucian asked although he could guess why, but he wanted to hear her say it.

"Stop tormenting her already," Eros said in irritation at the back of his head, but Lucian ignored his voice.

"I didn't mean to pry, but my door was open and I saw your interaction with that woman in front of my office yesterday," Adira replied, confirming what was on Lucian's mind.

Adira felt so nervous, she didn't know why he was asking these questions and she was afraid she was going to say the wrong thing.

"Oh. Did it make you feel jealous?" Lucian asked with a smirk.

Adira who was getting fed up of the questions looked up and replied, "I don't have any reason to be?"

The smile on Lucian's face immediately disappeared.

Was that too harsh? Adira thought. She was scared.

Was he testing her and waiting for this moment?

"You can have the coffee and go to your office," Lucian said bluntly. Adira nodded and turned around slowly before walking out of the office.

As soon as she closed the door, she gripped the cup tightly and squeezed her face.

Oh God, what did she do?

She went back to her office and sighed as she sat down before her desk.

She had to forget about it and focus on the work she has to do while waiting for him to fire her at any moment.

"I warned you," Eros said, teasing Lucian.

Lucian clenched his fists tightly and closed his eyes. He breathed in and out deeply and slowly opened his palms.

"She didn't mean it," he said to himself.

"She probably said that to escape from the awkward situation."

Lucian's phone rang in his pocket and he quickly reached for it.

He looked at the caller ID and frowned as he saw that it was General Bauer, Greta's dad and general of the US army.

He groaned before picking the call and he dropped the phone on the table.

"Lucian, how are you doing?" Bauer's thick and coarse voice echoed out of the phone.

"I'm fine, I hope it's the same for you," Lucian said, toying with the file clips on his table.

"Yes, can you come over to the senate house, there's something important we need to discuss," Bauer said, his voice sounded so serious and Lucian immediately knew the Vampires were up to something.

What was it this time?

"Okay, I'll be there in an hour," Lucian replied with a sour look on his face.

Sometimes, he really hated being Alpha King.

"Right. See you then," Bauer said and ended the call.

Lucian stood up and pushed his chair back under his desk. He grabbed his suit case and walked out of the office, locking the door.

He walked down the hallway and hadn't gone far when he saw Greta approaching.

He sighed loudly. He was already fed up with this human constantly clinging to him. She never gave him time to do anything.

"I said we should bury her," Eros said, but Lucian rolled his eyes.

He wished he could, but he must not. Harming her in any way could break the agreement between humans and Werewolves, leading to war.

"Good morning," Greta said with a wide smile on her face.

"Morning to you too. Why are you here?" Lucian asked with a cold stare.

"I didn't have anything to do so I wanted to stay here today and have lunch together like yesterday," Greta replied.

"As you can see, I'm on my way. Your dad called me to the senate house."

"Oh."

"Yes, so you can go hangout with your other friends. I'll see you later," Lucian suggested and walked past her immediately. He stopped by Adira's office and opened the door, walking in.

Adira looked up from her desk and was surprised to see it was her boss. Was he finally here to tell her that she was fired? She thought.

She shouldn't have talked so impulsively earlier.

"I have something important to do, cancel the meeting with Kylie and reschedule it," Lucian said and she nodded.

"Okay."

"Okay," he said too and walked out, closing the door.

He walked into the elevator and hit the button for the ground floor, pretending not to see Greta who was calling out to him to stop the door from closing.

She was really annoying.
