Chapter 1

So many things had happened in the years that had passed and those who witnessed the new world could remember it like it was yesterday.

In the year 2031, the first-ever gates were seen or the portal that connects us to the other world. The God of Light, Leonard, gave humans the gift or blessing to possess a specific spirit that only they can summon and those special people are called Errors.

Everybody knows the existence of those people and considers them as heroes thus making the underground battle, Agnis, for the Errors. But inequality will forever be present in the world.

PRESENT TIME

Year 3024

The news on the TV screen could be seen as Ellie focused all her attention in that "An error was once again seen dead on the scene. Currently, the death rates of these people are rapidly increasing as the years pass by and the police are doing anything they can to save our heroes" Ellie can't help but scoff at the news anchor's words

"Save them my ass. They can't even save themselves so how come you can save them?" she mumbled "Rather than complaining about that, aren't you late?" she turned to her little brother who sat beside her on the sofa while fixing his things

"My class is in the afternoon" she answered and glanced at the wall clock before turning back to her "What time are you going to come back home?" she asked so Jake started thinking

"Hmm... I think about 8:00 pm" he said so she clicked her tongue "Basketball practice again?" she complained so Jake sighed "You can't do anything about it and you don't hear me complaining when you get drunk late at night" Ellie pouted

"Fine" she whined and rolled her eyes "As long as we get to have dinner together," she said and Jake smiled in response "Let's do that" he agreed to make her smile.

She and her brother have been living together for a few years now and their parents decided to leave them to live in the States to properly run their company there.

And Jake being Ellie's only family with her she wants to spend as much time with him as possible.

She looked up at Jake when he stood up and swing his backpack on his shoulder "I'm going to school now" he said so she smiled "Good luck on your exam" she said as she stared at him leave the house.

Jake was currently 17 and in his last year in high school while she is 22 and is in her second year of college. She doesn't worry about his high school life as he can protect himself and anyone to be honest and she heard that he has a good reputation in school.

Ellie sighed in content and turned the TV off before standing up, she decided on walking around the city while she waits for her English class.

While she walked the streets, her heels clicked on the cement as thousands of screen can be seen whenever you turn your head. The world really did change after all those years that she somehow can't believe that everything in front of her eyes is real.

Famous errors celebrity or not can be seen on the screen like it was being advertised and even though humans and spirits nearly co-exist the world just doesn't want that to happen.

She even thinks that the God of Light, Leonard's blessing was such a waste just to give to humankind. "Ellie!" she smiled when she saw her friend, Liz, waving at her from afar so she waved back and ran in her direction.

They decided on eating in a restaurant first as they wait for classes that both of them take. "By the way, have you seen the Agnis National Championship yet?" she asked as they sip on their coffee

"You know I don't watch that kind of things," she said so Liz looked at her weirdly "You're kidding me?" she said, wide-eyed so Ellie only nodded getting a surprising reaction from Liz who pinched her knee

"Ouch! That hurts!" she groaned and caressed the aching part as Liz huffed "Do you live on a rock or something? Don't you even know who is representing us?" she said hurriedly typing into her phone

"You know why I don't watch those," she said while shaking her head "I know but at least know this handsome man!" she said and thrust her phone into her face "Liz, I can't see because your phone is too near," she said so Liz giggled when she realized

"Sorry~" she said that Ellie finds adorable as she looked at the picture that Liz was showing her. Five people can be seen in the photo, three men and two women to be precise.

They look not older than her but what really caught her attention was the man who had a handsome face. They all look handsome and beautiful but this guy is different from them all, even in the photo, she could still notice the difference in the aura they possess.

"Who's that in the middle?" she asked so Liz turned the phone to her before grinning "You have great taste, El" she said with a stupid smile "This man is..." as Liz uttered his name she knows that she was completely bewitched.

Even though she had arrived home, the man's name stuck on her mind like a ritual and she can't help but sigh at the nonsense that was going on in her mind.

When she finished washing the dishes, she could see Jake watching TV "Can you buy ice cream?" he asked so she hummed "Sure, what flavor?" she asked

"Chocolate" she nodded in response and went to her room to get a coat. It was already dark outside, only the street lights becoming her guide in the dark.

While walking back to the apartment, she suddenly felt that something was wrong and continuously felt as if something was prickling her skin making it itch.

"S-Someone... Help..."

She stopped in her tracks and turned to a dark alleyway to see a woman, blood streaming down her jaw as she leaned on the wall for support.

She dropped the plastic of ice cream and gasped and quickly ran in her direction "Oh my god! I'll call for help" she said and made the woman lean into her as she dialed 911. She glanced at the woman, panic starting to fill her chest at the continuous ring.

"Hello! This is 911, what's your emergency?"

The voice of a man can be heard from the other line "Y-Yes, I saw a woman wounded and I don't think she could last long" she said

"Okay, Ma'am. Do you know the woman?" the man asked "No, I was just passing by. C-Can you come please?" she asked as her hand trembled "Yes, can you tell me your location?" he asked so she wet her lips as she told him their location

"Okay, Ma'am. Please wait and do not touch the wound before the paramedics arrive" he said so she nodded "Yes, yes, I understand" she said before the call ran out so she made the woman sit on the floor while leaning on the wall.

"Hello? Miss, are you awake?" she asked so the woman faintly nodded "Please, hang in there. Help is coming," she said but got taken aback when she held her wrist "Are you hurting?" she asked so the woman shook her head

"Listen, I don't have much time so please listen to me..." she said in a faint voice so Ellie nodded while biting her lip "Yes, I will listen," she said so the woman smiled "You have to stop them before other people get killed.." Ellie was speechless at her words

"I... what... is someone trying to kill you?" she asked in shock but the woman only smiled "I could sense something in you so please fulfill my wish" Ellie was starting to get teary as she nodded

"This is the only gift I could give you for trying to save me," she said and the wrist she was holding started shining suddenly as something painful suddenly flowed in her bloodstream.

She was in pain for a couple of seconds before the bright suddenly disappeared as the woman suddenly lost consciousness. She checked her pulse in a hurry and her eyes widened when she realized she stopped breathing.

"Miss? Miss! Wake up!"

She didn't know what happened just now but she won't allow this woman to die, she didn't even realize the police coming when she was suddenly pulled away by one of them and the only thing she saw was one of the paramedics shaking his head as if telling them that there was no hope as she tried to reach for the woman. Not knowing that this will not be the end of events like this from now on.
