The sun rose over King's Landing, casting a golden hue across the rooftops, yet the city remained shrouded in tension. Aemond sat at the head of a long table in the war room, flanked by his most trusted advisors: Qarlton Chelsted, Saladinus, and, of course, Varys. Maps and scrolls lay scattered before them, detailing troop movements and the latest reports from the realm.
"News from the Riverlands," Chelsted began, tapping a finger on the parchment. "Robert Baratheon is gathering support from House Tully. He seeks an alliance with Edmure Tully to strengthen his claim against us."
Aemond leaned forward, his expression grim. "The Tullys have always been fickle. If we can dissuade them from aligning with Robert, we may weaken his position significantly."
"Perhaps we could leverage a promise of support for a Tully heir," Varys suggested, a glimmer of intrigue in his eyes. "If we can plant the idea that we will support their interests, we may sway their loyalty."
"Agreed," Aemond replied, feeling the weight of his decisions pressing down on him. "We cannot allow Robert to gain any more momentum. I want emissaries sent to Riverrun immediately. Offer them aid in exchange for their neutrality."
Saladinus, who had been quiet until now, spoke up. "And what of the common folk? Many of them still support Baratheon, believing he represents their interests. We must show them that our cause is just."
Aemond nodded, appreciating Saladinus's perspective. "We need to increase our presence in the streets. Let them see our commitment to their welfare. Host gatherings, provide food and shelter—anything to win their hearts."
"As for the Lannisters," Chelsted interjected, "we must keep a close eye on Tywin. He is likely not to remain idle while we consolidate our power. The moment he senses weakness, he will strike."
Aemond leaned back in his chair, his mind racing with possibilities. "Then we must ensure our defenses are ready. Reinforce the gates, train the militia, and prepare the war scythes for battle. I will not be caught off guard."
