Just Another Day

The morning sunlight penetrated through the window curtains, illuminating Adam's modest bedroom. He slowly opened his eyes, awakened from his deep sleep. For a moment Adam stared blankly at the ceiling, contemplating the day ahead of him. Then he glanced at his old alarm clock on the wooden bedside table, it showed 6 AM.

Adam got up from his creaky bed and headed to the bathroom to wash his face. The chilling water helped wake him up completely. After getting freshened up, he wore his red t-shirt and black pants, ready to help his mother prepare breakfast.

When he arrived at the kitchen, his mother Georgia was already busy cracking eggs and putting bread slices into the toaster.

"Good morning, dear. Did you sleep well?" Georgia greeted Adam cheerfully.

"Good morning, Mom. Yes I did, thanks." Adam replied politely as he took out the plates and utensils from the cabinet.

Georgia hummed a happy tune while cooking the eggs sunny side up, Adam's favorite. The sizzling sound of oil and aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the entire kitchen.

After they finished preparing scrambled eggs, sausages, and toast, Adam helped set up the small round dining table. He carefully placed the homemade blueberry jam and butter on the table.

"Let's eat before it gets cold," Georgia said. Adam nodded and they both sat down to enjoy the lovely breakfast together.

After finishing the hearty breakfast, Adam bid goodbye to his mother and made his way to the bus stop near their house. It was a short walk along the quiet village road. The morning breeze gently caressed Adam's face along the way.

As Adam arrived at the bus stop, a bus bound for the city was already waiting. Many other students were queued up to board. Adam lined up behind them patiently.

When his turn came, the bus was nearly full but he managed to secure a window seat in the middle row. Shortly after, a familiar face sat next to him.

"Hey Adam! Fancy seeing you this early huh?" David grinned while putting his backpack on his lap.

"David! Yeah I need to submit my assignment before class starts," Adam chuckled.

"Ugh don't remind me, I haven't even finished mine," David sighed, running his hand through his messy hair.

The two college buddies chatted lightly during the ride, sharing complaints about their lecturers and assignments. The bus ride was Adam's favorite part of the morning.

After getting off the bus, Adam and David walked through the university courtyard while chatting lightly. They entered the engineering faculty building and headed straight to their lecturing hall.

Finding their favorite spots in the middle row, they settled down and took out their study materials, waiting for Mr. Patrick's arrival. Right on time, the stern looking lecturer entered and began explaining complex formulas on the whiteboard.

Adam focused intently during the two hours lecture, diligently taking down notes. Although difficult to grasp initially, he was determined to understand the thermodynamics concepts.

Time passed quickly and soon Mr. Patrick reminded them about upcoming assignment deadlines before concluding the session. Adam felt motivated to work on them after the engaging lecture.

Nearing the end of the lecture session, Mr. Patrick decided to conduct a quick oral pop quiz. His eyes scanned the silent classroom, before landing on Adam sitting in the middle row.

"Adam, please come forward and solve this thermodynamics problem," Mr. Patrick called out while writing a complex formula on the board.

Feeling slightly nervous, Adam grabbed his notebook and pen then headed to the front. He examined the question carefully, relating it to the theories they just learned.

After a few moments contemplating, Adam began writing down the solution step-by-step while explaining his working out loud. Mr. Patrick nodded approvingly at Adam's working.

In the end, Adam successfully derived the complete and correct solution, even adding on an extra step at the conclusion. Mr. Patrick appeared impressed by the thorough explanation.

"Well done, Adam. You may return to your seat," he remarked.

Adam smiled, feeling relieved and proud of his accomplishment. His classmates also showed their appreciation as he walked back to his seat. It was a rewarding moment for Adam's understanding.

The lecture session was concluded by the ringing of the recess bell. Adam stacked his notes neatly and returned them into his backpack.

"Let's go get some food, I'm starving!" David said while stretching his arms upwards. Adam nodded and they made their way to the campus canteen.

The canteen was already crowded with students queueing at the food stalls. Adam and David lined up at the noodle stall, their favorite. After getting their bowls of piping hot noodles, they sat down at an empty table.

While eating, David cheekily commented on Adam's slender build, "With your skinny frame, I bet you can't even carry me up the stairs!" Adam laughed it off good-naturedly.

The two friends continued chatting while enjoying the tasty noodles. The bustling canteen was filled with chatter and laughter, giving an energizing feel during the recess hour.

After the satisfying meal, Adam and David headed off to their next class in high spirits, while joking around with each other along the way.

As Adam exited the campus gate after his classes ended for the day, he bumped into Gama, his close friend from high school.

"Hey Gama, fancy seeing you here!" Adam greeted him excitedly.

"Adam, long time no see! I was just passing by your campus," Gama explained.

The two childhood friends were happy to meet unexpectedly like this. They took some time to catch up with each other's lives recently.

"Still as skinny as ever huh, remember how we used to get bullied for being scrawny?" Gama said, reminiscing their high school days.

Adam chuckled, "Yeah good thing we've built confidence since then. Getting through those tough times together made us stronger."

After chatting for a while, they bid goodbye to each other before Adam made his way to the bus stop, feeling grateful for the friendly encounter with his old friend.

After parting ways with Gama, Adam walked to the bus stop to go home to his village. The bus ride was smooth and uneventful.

Arriving at his house, Adam was greeted by his mother who had just finished cooking dinner. After washing his hands, Adam immediately helped her clear the table and wash the dishes from lunch.

While scrubbing the plates, Adam recounted his day to his mother, including the chance encounter with Gama earlier. She listened attentively while drying the clean plates.

After all the dishes were washed and kept, Adam assisted with other chores like sweeping the floors and tidying up clutter around the house. Although tired from campus activities, helping out his mother gave Adam satisfaction.

By the time they were done with the chores, dinner was ready to be served. Adam felt a sense of accomplishment looking at the now spick and span house, thanks to the combined efforts.

After finishing the household chores, Adam and his mother Georgia sat down to have dinner together. Georgia had prepared Adam's favorite dishes like fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and vegetables.

As they ate, Adam told his mother more about his activities on campus earlier. Georgia listened interestedly while reminding Adam to focus on his studies and not get distracted.

"I'm proud that you're taking your studies seriously. Keep it up and you'll graduate with flying colors," Georgia said warmly.

"Thanks Mom. I'll do my best," Adam replied with a smile. He cherished these small moments bonding with his mother amidst his busy schedule.

Their dinner conversation flowed comfortably from Adam's college life to Georgia's work at her tailor shop. The home cooked meal coupled with loving company was the perfect way for Adam to end the long day.

After finishing dinner, Adam helped his mother clean up the dining table then prepared to call it a night. He took a nice warm shower to wash off the day's sweat and grime.

The hot water was relaxing for Adam's tired body. After showering, he performed his nighttime prayers, expressing gratitude for good health and meaningful days like this.

Feeling fresh, Adam changed into his comfortable pajamas and slipped into bed. The fullness of his stomach and softness of the mattress quickly pulled him into a deep slumber.

Adam's mind drifted off into dreamland, restoring his energy for tomorrow's activities. The curtains fluttered gently over his motionless sleeping figure, ushering in the silence of the night.
