5. Mystery

Axel listened without looking at the woman who approached, not saying anything because he wasn't a man chasing romantic relationships. He didn't shy away from love, but he wasn't pursuing it either. Axel's real age was close to fifty, and being an inexperienced man, he wasn't easily swayed.

The woman, realizing she couldn't catch Axel's interest, became uncomfortable. Maxwell thought Axel did the right thing because having a relationship with them was impossible. Axel wasn't a man to give false hope for the sake of amusement. He didn't mind being seen as a bad guy but didn't want to become one through such means.

The dissatisfied women left.

When Axel took the driver's seat, Maxwell, as usual, sat beside him. This time, Felix joined them instead of sitting inside the RV. Felix sometimes addressed Axel this way. Initially, Axel was bothered by it, but he got used to it because 'Axe' was his weapon, and it was one letter different from his name. He had acquired various nicknames before. Axe was one of the famous ones among vampires. Axel had taken many lives with his axe.

"Hey Axe, how much longer do we have?" Felix sometimes spoke to Axel like this. Axel was initially bothered, but he got used to it because 'Axe' was his weapon, and it was one letter different from his name. He had acquired various nicknames before. Axe was one of the famous ones among vampires. Axel had taken many lives with his axe.

"Not much longer, Felix," Axel replied, feeling bored. He enjoyed the journey, but after a while, driving became tedious.

Meanwhile, Maxwell silently read his book. He enjoyed reading because it made him feel like a normal person.

As they progressed along the road surrounded by tall trees, they soon noticed the road was blocked by a fallen tree. Axel carefully observed the fallen tree and realized it was deliberately done. It was a trap.

Axel didn't think this trap was meant for vampires because vampires could move faster than a car, so setting up such a trap seemed nonsensical.

As Axel looked around, he noticed something behind the trees and walked towards it. Although nothing was visible, the scent was strong. He recognized the smell of gasoline.

While Axel walked towards the source of the smell, Felix abandoned his painting and followed. After about two minutes of walking, they discovered an old model Cadillac hidden behind the trees. The car door was missing. Axel examined the car and concluded that the door had been forcefully broken.

Inside the car, whoever owned it had left their belongings. Axel could tell from the items inside that the owner was a woman. Axel took the woman's perfume and decided to investigate what happened here. He didn't think the woman was alive, but he was curious about what occurred. It didn't seem like a typical vampire job. Axel had seen many vampire murders by this age.

Maxwell looked around while Felix waited for Axel to say something.

After Axel spoke, Felix remembered he hadn't locked the door. "No, I didn't feel the need to since we're here."

"I want to see what happened here. Lock the RV door and come," Axel said before Felix returned within two minutes.

"I hid the RV similar to this car to protect us from thugs, Axe." Felix handed them both pistols. He offered one to Maxwell. "Hey old man, take this; it won't be easy for an old man like you to fight." Felix was trying to provoke Maxwell.

Although Maxwell looked angry, he knew Felix was just teasing. However, he also knew that if he didn't look angry, Felix would continue teasing him all day.

Felix handed Maxwell the magazine, and Maxwell put it in his pocket. Axel had always instructed them to carry these weapons for safety. Although the guns couldn't kill a vampire, they were powerful enough to pierce their bodies, giving them a significant advantage. Axel had also customized their belts for carrying these weapons.

Felix was supposed to bring Axel's axes, but when he didn't find them in the RV, he realized Axel had taken them. Seeing this, Maxwell and Felix put their guns in their special belts. Axel hadn't taken out his axes yet. Seeing this, the other two followed suit.

Axel watched as Felix picked up his axes, then took one himself. Seeing this, Maxwell and Felix took out their guns. Axel had customized their belts for carrying these weapons.

Axel walked beside Felix, who had joined him, while Maxwell kept an eye on the rear. It was their usual tactic. As they walked a bit further, they picked up other scents, some of which resembled human scents, while others smelled like decaying flesh.

After a short distance, they found a bear carcass. It was evident that whatever killed the bear didn't do it for food. It didn't resemble the style of a werewolf or vampire. The bear had been torn into two pieces, indicating it had been dead for about a week. Having seen many deaths before, they knew how to determine the time of death. The smell bothered them, so they quickly left the area. Axel felt that dangerous things were happening here, so he took one of his axes in his right hand.
