Bound to a Wizard]

"Isaac, why are you staring into blank space?"

Zach and Oliver gave Isaac a look of confusion as they all walked through Ashton Mall, a popular district and second only to the Hale Coliseum.

Isaac, dismissing the window before him, shrugged off the question.

"Nothing. Hey, why are we here anyway?" Isaac asked, changing the subject.

Looking around, they stood on the second story of a four-story Mall.

The most eye-catching feature of the Mall is its central area - a vast, column-free space that extends up to the fourth-floor ceiling.

Looking up, you can see the upper levels clearly, their balconies and walkways seeming to float in the air.

One walking on the walkways would instantly be able to notice the dozens of stores lined up as part of some of the many experiences the mall had to offer.

But at the moment, Isaac, Zach and Oliver weren't entering any, leading Isaac to raise an eyebrow since he'd been mindlessly following his roommates all this time.

"Well, I was sort of following you guys, hoping you'd know where to go," Zach commented as both he and Isaac ended up looking toward Oliver who had his chest puffed out.

"Worry not, my fellow outsiders. I've been here a ton of times. I'll be glad to take you both on a tour." Oliver announced, leading the both of them.

"Where would you like to go?"

Zach and Isaac thought for a second, and while the former couldn't think of anything, Isaac couldn't help but have a specific location in mind.

"Is there any place around here that sells Arts?"

Oliver's ears perked upon hearing this.

"It should be on the third floor."

Isaac grinned upon hearing this as they all quickened their steps.

***

"Sanctuary of the Warrior."

Isaac read the name of the store he stood before.

As usual, this store was one of many lines beside the walkways, but this one particularly stood out amongst the rest.

With a wooden board advertising the name that almost looked as though it'd break apart, the store looked as though it were on its last legs.

Isaac assumed the owner was going for a simplistic design, however, over time, it grew to look more like a homeless shelter.

Yet, despite this, the store didn't look like it was losing any customers as dozens of individuals could be seen walking in and out of it.

"Are you sure we're at the right place?"

Zach asked with a hint of scepticism.

Oliver nodded enthusiastically.

"Yes. Don't judge it too quickly. Despite how it looks, this store is home to quality Arts."

Oliver spoke whilst they walked toward the store, pushing the door open as a loud CREAK could be heard.

-DING

The rusty door hinges let out a long cry, drowning out the faint Ding of the bell that rang upon the door opening.

As they entered the store, their nostrils were instantly assaulted with a heavy scent of dust, causing Isaac to sneeze.

"The owner doesn't believe in fancy appeal, he lets his products talk for themselves."

Isaac shrugged his shoulders. He didn't care if the place was a bathroom or a Palace. As long as he could find what he was looking for, he didn't mind.

Before him were three different lanes separated by tall bookshelves. Each bookshelf was stacked with dozens of Arts.

"This place even has guides for potential Perks one can unlock."

Isaac nodded in satisfaction as the three of them unknowingly split up, each drawn by their curiosity as Isaac slipped toward the far right lane.

'Combat Art. I need a Combat Art.'

Thinking this, Isaac began to scour through the books, reading their titles and star ranking.

If they interested him, he'd read the synopsis provided, since the real book was stored in private. These were nothing but basic information on the Art.

'Fishman Karate? Not my style. Jeet Kune Do? Sounds like something from a movie. Basic Taijutsu? I can't imagine that's any more useful than my level 5 Hand-to-Hand.'

Isaac had found countless Combat Arts. From Arts he was familiar with like Grappling, Judo and even extreme street fighting techniques, all the way to a sword style…that required no sword.

'Hamon? It isn't any better than Nen in terms of power and versatility. Concentration breathing? Again, I'll have a better result with Ren…where am I?'

As Isaac proceeded, not finding anything he particularly thought to be eye-catching, he'd become so hooked that he hadn't noticed he started to move into the 'Special Abilities' Category.

Looking around, he found he was alone in his lane.

[Are you done? If so, check that book next. Then we can head over to the magic section.]

Isaac noticed the tranquil and melodic voice enter his ears as Merlin hopped onto his shoulder.

[I thought you had a telepathic reading or something.]

Isaac questioned. He knew once he started to entertain Merlin's curiosity it was a downward spiral that he'd never escape.

[It's called my Merlinpedia. I created it for the convenience of not having to worry about your friends and passersby who'd find it suspicious seeing a cat reading a book.]

Isaac raised an eyebrow upon hearing this.

[Pedia? Like Wikipedia?]

[Yes. I've dedicated my studies to not only Spawn but the history and geography of the outside world also. I was quite surprised to notice how developed it was compared to my Verse.]

Merlin was highly intrigued by what she found. Her name was recognised by humans on earth, but only as a myth and a man.

Additionally, it seemed that the time period in her Verse ended centuries ago.

[Camelot is no more and Brittania has changed its name. The Merlinpedia allows me to store books in a pocket dimension and read them in my mind at rapid speeds. Though it is only a prototype, I soon wish to gain every knowledge on a book sent there instantly.]

Isaac raised both eyebrows upon hearing this, turning his head and staring at Merlin.

[Hey, that's pretty cool. You think I can get in on this Merlinpedia?]

Isaac didn't need to sleep, which meant unlike regular Inheritors, he could always be productive.

But he usually dedicated his nights to studying verses with Merlin.

If he had access to the Merlinpedia, he could use this time to do something else.

However, upon Isaac asking this, Merlin grinned mischievously.

[Of course, but it won't be for free. And since I have no value for money, you can repay me with your services.]

Isaac stared, frozen as his mind raced.

[What kind of services are we talking about here? Because you are a Cat, after all.]

Merlin nodded.

[Exactly. Which is why I can't be seen walking through libraries and Art stores alone, you know this.]

Isaac snapped back to his usual self as he cleared his throat and nodded vigorously.

[Yes, yes, I do know. That's exactly what I was thinking as well.]

Despite Merlin peering at Isaac from the corner of her eye, she turned back to a certain direction in the store as she pointed.

[I believe the Magic section is that way. Take us there at once, my humble chauffeur.]

Merlin announced in a triumphant tone as if she were a king conquering a land.

Meanwhile, Isaac ground his teeth as he prepared to walk, but came to a stop, a figure catching his eye.

Not too far away from him was a boy his age. With long hair that resembled a bird's nest and a bulky frame, Cain flipped through the pages of a few Art books Isaac had just passed.

However, it wasn't long until Cain noticed him as their eyes met and neither individual spoke.

Additionally, Isaac's attention was deviated as he noticed a third individual walk around the corner.

Lucy, the usual cold and unapproachable aura surrounding her, paused, looking straight toward Isaac as the boy's mind raced, a single thought repeating.

'Why the f*ck do I keep finding myself in these situations.'
