A Walk Among Stars

Would you give your sight... the very essence of that sense of yours...? So that never again would you be able to see again. For the simple ability to heal. Take upon the injuries of those you care for. As with a single touch. They shall be healed. Whether it be a broken limb... a bruise... or even a whole arm... nothing, not a single thing within your grasp will ever be broken. Yet when I opened my eyes... it was not the kaleidoscope of colors I knew the world as... nor the exuberant face of my sister. No, it was to this empty void. Filled only by my sense of touch. "Of course" There was no other answer that would satisfy my will. For this was my choice... and my choice alone. ... When the world was created... populated by species upon species of beings. Yet a drop here... a star that may have yet to burst. A small flap of some God's coat. For the world was given life. Life greater than others. For they could use magic. An ability so wondrous that many nations had been created and felled in the harrowed halls of libraries. Yet this ability was not equal, and neither was the strength of will. For it appeared within women, every man that was born... for every one of them, there was an equal thousand women. As for magic. A rare occurrence already, made even more rare by the gap. A change in dynamic. For there was not some great king... there was not one holy emperor. Or even a god. There was a queen... a holy empress.... a Goddess. For man's place was not on the battlefield but upon the soft ballrooms, kitchens laden with instruments of creation rather than destruction. Married into well families that cared for them like precious possessions.

Regularity - 1

Time passed in such a quiet manner. Despite the drawlings of the other. Their plans and hastings, I found myself with quite some free time.

Most of which I took upon myself to use in the hospice. Healing any and all that came under my hand. For the injured were my duty. They would be healed, whether I was stopped or not.

Titania still held great care for me. But she was… gone most of the time. I could still feel her presence, like some sort of sixth sense. Yet it still told me that she didn't come and bond with me.

But instead she went away and watched me from afar. Only the occasional pouting would stop her from keeping that distance. And moments later - like now - she would be in my hands. I would pet her with all of my might.

With every single pur and released groan of pleasure I dug deeper. Making sure that she would gain so much out of every single interaction of ours.

But now… as I walked towards that same door. Our teacher's glaring soul watching as I entered. I found my way next to Atalante, her finger twirling her hair as she glanced at me every so often.

But I merely smiled. Letting her do as she wanted. Letting her watch me as the lesson continued. Covering mundane subjects that seemed to just flood my mind.

I took them seriously, mind you, but I still felt as if they were just… just rehashing other topics that I had already learned.

It was why I only paid half attention. My other half on Atalante as she stole glance after glance. Just as every other girl within did. Their eyes focused solely on my form.

"That is it for today." The professor spoke, stern in tone. I stood, ready to depart from class. Only to recoil in instinctual fear as some random girl took my hand. Confidence in her tone as she tried to drag me towards some nascent place.

Only to be mobbed by the others who wanted my time. A smirk on Atalante's face as she took me while the others were fighting.

"Hey." She spoke, a bit awkwardly.

"Hello." I bowed, maintaining every proprietary that I had been taught. Making sure that I did not offend her senses at all.

There was a certain ranking amongst nobles, not that it mattered much. But I still had to maintain appearances. And her family was above mine. Not that it said much about them, more about us.

"I was told to give you this letter." She spoke, her face turning to the side as she transferred the letter within my hands.

"Thank you. I trust that it is not from some malicious source?"

She nodded.

"Of course, I thoroughly checked."

"Then I thank you again."

I went to leave. Only to find my sleeve held to. A blush on her face as she went to say something.

Only before she could say whatever was on her mind, she was forced to the side as Lyra came. Her form bulldozing through any proper etiquette. Dragging me towards the exit.

"There was no need." I spoke. My tone maybe a bit harsher than I would have liked. She was still a lady, and I needed to pay my proper respects.

"Oh…" Lyra looked a bit downcast, her face pointed to the ground. However I only took her hand in mine. Healing her exhaustion and taking it upon my own body. Only a small grunt of pain echoing from my mouth to signify such an action.

For a moment I sighed. Then when she did nothing. Lyra only stared at the clouds passing by. Not saying a word.

I took the letter that I had been given. And with all the respect that I could. Opened it, hoping that it was not some juvenile confession or some marriage proposal.

Though it was rather likely considering my apparent popularity.

It was something I had found out rather quickly. As the next time that I had walked among campus, hiding behind Lyra - of course - I found myself hounded by people. Either looking for me to heal themselves or a loved one.

Or worse. I blanched.

They came with marriage proposals, I didn't even need to use my soul sight to see the greed within their bodies.

Apparently I had made quite a reputation. And from that day on there was no time, in the public eye of course, that I was left alone.

There was always one brave girl, either egged on by her friends or more likely her family, to confess and try and take me for their family.

Luckily there had been none to try and use their status to take me forcibly.

I sighed and opened the letter fully.

Reading through it using that same artifact.

[Atalante pov]

"Did you give him the letter."

There was a certain heat within that gaze of hers. As she tried desperately to set me ablaze with only her eyes. As if she hated the mere sight of me even being close to Gabriel. But as if it was a necessity, she still tolerated it.

But even her question. It was neither that, nor a polite request. It was a demand. To know the result.

"Of course."

"Good." She threw me a card. The details of which I took to myself. Placing it within my shirt pocket, making sure that it was completely safe.

"One more thing…" I spoke. A glint within my eyes.

"Yes," She leaned in, her golden green hair falling over her eyes as she placed her hand over my chin. "What is it."

That intensity of her gaze. It only grew stronger as she looked within my own.

"He seems… almost scared of contact with women, almost as if…"

I left the words trailing in the air. A rage so great. So terrible.

I was forced to the ground.

How had I even ended up in this situation… how?
