A Walk Among Stars

Would you give your sight... the very essence of that sense of yours...? So that never again would you be able to see again. For the simple ability to heal. Take upon the injuries of those you care for. As with a single touch. They shall be healed. Whether it be a broken limb... a bruise... or even a whole arm... nothing, not a single thing within your grasp will ever be broken. Yet when I opened my eyes... it was not the kaleidoscope of colors I knew the world as... nor the exuberant face of my sister. No, it was to this empty void. Filled only by my sense of touch. "Of course" There was no other answer that would satisfy my will. For this was my choice... and my choice alone. ... When the world was created... populated by species upon species of beings. Yet a drop here... a star that may have yet to burst. A small flap of some God's coat. For the world was given life. Life greater than others. For they could use magic. An ability so wondrous that many nations had been created and felled in the harrowed halls of libraries. Yet this ability was not equal, and neither was the strength of will. For it appeared within women, every man that was born... for every one of them, there was an equal thousand women. As for magic. A rare occurrence already, made even more rare by the gap. A change in dynamic. For there was not some great king... there was not one holy emperor. Or even a god. There was a queen... a holy empress.... a Goddess. For man's place was not on the battlefield but upon the soft ballrooms, kitchens laden with instruments of creation rather than destruction. Married into well families that cared for them like precious possessions.

Fallen - 4

I was unceremoniously dropped onto something soft, a pillow, a bed. It was something like that. What it actually was though I could not tell. Only that the person above me had their breath held heavily.

A sort of injury that I had not yet experienced. One that must have hurt lots, I could barely even tell that it was there. But it was. It affected their heart or something as I could feel their arm, the one wrapped around my waist, it felt so weak and pale. Even with all of the muscle that I felt.

As if her blood was not circulating as it should be. And so I activated my gift once more and with it felt the pain. My heart ached, my breaths short as I gasped over the ground. Sweat dripped down my forehead and onto the covers below me.

I looked up to the orb in front of me, at the blazing fury that it held. And shivered in fear. My smile that I held aloft at all times, it wavered with that fury.

"Why?!" It questioned, her voice lit aflame with fury that I could not tell the origin of. I merely shivered in her grasp.

"Wh- why what?" I barely gasped out.

"What did you do?" Her voice turned soft and I finally could grasp the origin of her fury. She was worried for me. And so I smirked, I gave the most smug look I could think of even as I gazed at that orb of simmering anger.

"I healed you"

"But what does that have to do with your state, why are you so ill?"

I chuckled, but before I could even finish it turned into pale coughs, ones that forced me to lay down. But still, I chuckled at her.

"The price silly, is there a miracle you know that does not take its toll?"

I chuckled again only this time I was well enough to finish them. I closed my eyes and with it the orb faded to nothing. And I was truly left with nothing to see.

[Abigail POV]

I closed my eyes, a pain ever echoed through my temples and down further. Through my chest and into my heart and liver. A chronic pain I had felt for the most of my life. A disease that had crippled my ability towards the sword.

Of course with mana I was able to overcome that disability. But still, even with that miracle it was quite hard to overcome the inherent difference in physiques.

Yet now, as I looked to the golden haired child that slept in my arms. My soon to be, I felt none of that pain. There was no heartache that threatened to throw me to the ground with force. No, there was nothing but peace and comfort.

A smile lit my face, a feel I had not felt in years. Not since…

I shook my head and reached my hand down, in order to pet the face of my soon to be husband.

SQUAWK

"Gah" I shrieked out, unladylike in manner. But it was warranted as an eagle, greater than any I had seen, attacked my hand. It did that twice before it gave up and warily looked to me.

All while perching on my new betrothed. I growled, my hand on the sword at my waist.

Only to be interrupted by a giggle. So focused on the bird was I that I had not noticed the awakening of my betrothed. He giggled, even with his eyes closed. Even if he could not truly see the scene in front of him.

But still, a nuzzle here and there from the bird drew laughs and giggles that I could only envy. I looked away, only to meet face to face with a mirror.

Where a light dusting of pink greeted me. It was so…

I fled from the room, there was no way that was true. No, there was no way.

I went towards the dining hall, only to be interrupted by mother. Her eyes squinted in a most unusual manner. Only to be widened as she took in my form.

Of my even breath and steady gait.

"Have… oh of course you have" She said before she grabbed my hand and felt my pulse. "Oh my, so intimate already"

I pulled my hand away from her and instead walked towards my seat where the rest of the family was waiting. Where father and my only sister sat. Both impassively staring towards me.

"Where is your betrothed, he should have arrived has he not?"

I turned away and merely cut into the steak in front of me, poised to take a bite. Only for a hand to stop me. A faint image that cut to nothing once it was revealed that I had stopped.

"I asked a question."

I sighed and gestured for the maid at the side to grab my betrothed.

"He was resting but if you insist then I have already signaled a maid to grab him."

"That-" Father was cut off as mother merely raised her hand. And I curiously raised a brow to that.

"No more of that," She said and the line reasoning was cut from the conversation. It instead went towards other, different topics.

Moments passed, minutes where my stomach protested at the lack of food that came into it. Only to be relieved at the sight of the child. He held the hand of one of the maids, that damned smile on his face as he thanked her sincerely.

I sighed and forcefully took his hand and seated him to the side of me. He played with the seat for a moment before ultimately he settled on a position that was comfortable to him.

"So… Gabriel was it…"

His face turned from that blank stare he held towards one of more focus as he turned to the source of the voice. Merely smiling demurely as he nodded.
