“If he survives, he will heal.” The healer moved his gaze back to his work with a shrug. “One arm is better than no life or light. Keep reminding him of that.”
“Thank you, Gelri, for your wisdom.” Palti didn’t stay to monitor Selati after that. Later, Aleledai saw him with the other patients, but Gelri at least was dedicated to Selati’s care.
Aleledai waited for Gelri to finish his work. Once he saw the bronze tip of the healer’s tail vanish from sight, he stretched some of his upper half onto the cot. They were kind of crushed together, so Aleledai didn’t flop off. His mate was too deep in unconsciousness to care. Aleledai needed to be close to him.
“I need you here, if you feel like staying,” Aleledai whispered in his ear. The burn in his eyes had to wait for a better time. Selati didn’t need to hear him cry, in case his All chose to leave life behind. He wanted Selati to have peace, not guilt for the choice.
