A lot of questions jumped to the front of Aleledai’s mind. Frivolous thoughts and half formed ideas competed for attention, but Aleledai shoved them back. One question was necessary. The rest were invasive, something which he hated. “Can you describe it for me?” Aleledai forced his voice to be light and welcoming. “If the others sent you to me, maybe I can help you sort it out.”

“I don’t want you to think differently of me,” Selati whispered. He heard the naive wish for what it was, Selati asking, no matter what, Aleledai wouldn’t leave him adrift if he didn’t like what Selati told him.

“There’s always a possibility I will, but never in a bad way,” Aleledai tried to reassure him. He laid his chest down on his tail and dipped down far as he could, in an effort to catch Selati’s eyes. Selati avoided him by folding his arms together and laying his head on top of them, gaze on the table against the back cloth wall. Aleledai sighed to himself. Stubbornness, Selati radiated it.
