Hiding her until she recovers

Kaizer's heart dropped.

"Charge at 300!"

"Clear!"

Again, they stepped back. The shock was delivered, and the patient's body convulsed once more. The machine beat, once, twice, until the monitor jumped to life and a weak irregular rhythm appeared.

"We've got a pulse!"

Kaizer crouched on the floor, sighing in extreme relief. When the nurses took the patient to the operating room, Kaizer followed. He stood outside the operating room and called someone.

"Get your ass here and bring me a change of clothes," Kaizer stated the name of the hospital and ended the call.

Several minutes later, a tall, big guy arrived. His name is Max, and he is Kaizer's second-in-command.

"Why are you here, boss? And why are you covered in blood? Did you kill someone and send them to the hospital?" Max asked.

Kaizer answered. "That woman had an accident. I told her to be careful when crossing the streets but now, I'm not sure if this is even a simple accident or not. Go and investigate what happened."

Kaizer pointed Max to the vacant lot. It was already past seven in the evening when Max barged into the subdivision's security office. The personnel there was startled when he saw Max.

"Who are you? What are you doing?"

Max showed his ID—a fake one. "Police. There was a hit-and-run accident in an intersection next to the vacant lot not far from the entrance gates. I noticed there are installed CCTVs on the streets, so let me check the footage."

The male personnel were easily convinced. He moved away from the control desk and let Max use it.

"It's this one. Around five in the afternoon, the accident happened so… why is today's footage missing?" He glared at the personnel who were munching on his snacks.

"Ha? What missing? All CCTVs here are functioning properly. Aren't you looking at the camera's footage?" the guy pointed at the camera showing the vacant lot. "Look, it's working."

"Yeah, but the record from 1 pm to 6 pm is not here!" Max frustratedly exclaimed.

The personnel searched for it. "Huh? You're right!"

"Tsk. Did anyone come here?"

"Oh, today, the Homeowner's Association had a meeting, and a few of them dropped by here to share some food with me. But that's all. I've been here since then and no one came other than you, officer."

The male personnel looked suspicious now because of Max's sudden outburst. Max had no choice but to leave.

He quickly reported it back to Kaizer.

"Someone deleted them, I'm sure of it, boss. But I couldn't stay longer because the guard was getting suspicious of me."

Kaizer was already dressed cleanly. "Go and find out about this woman, then. For now, keep this to yourself. If this isn't just a mere accident, then someone's after her life. Move discreetly."

"Yes, boss."

Meanwhile, after Venice returned home, she quickly busied herself and cooked dinner for Conrad. When she heard the car rolling on the driveway. She nervously stepped out of the kitchen and wore a smiling mask.

Conrad immediately noticed something was missing. "Venice! Where is Jillian's car?"

"Oh, Conrad, welcome back home," Venice tiptoed and kissed Conrad on the cheek. "I was bored earlier, so I went and visited Dad, but on my way home, I suddenly got nauseated using Jillian's car, so I have it washed and repainted! It will be delivered here in a few days."

"You should have asked for my permission first!" Conrad exclaimed, annoyed.

Venice pouted. "But it's just a car, darling! And Jillian rarely used it, so if you just stock it, it will just get old and get rusty! What's wrong with taking care of it, it's not like Jillian will go back and take it back. She's gone anyway."

Venice muttered as she stomped back to the kitchen.

"What did you say?" Conrad's low voice echoed.

Only then did Venice realize what she said out of annoyance. She sweated profusely. She displayed a saddened face to Conrad.

"I—I mean, she was gone…out of the country. Yes, she left the country already! I heard it from Mom and Dad!"

Conrad paled. He quickly ran back to his car and drove to Hannah's apartment, ignoring Venice's shouts. When he arrived at Hannah's unit, he pressed the doorbell repeatedly.

"Who the hell do you think—Conrad? What the hell are you doing here?" Hannah looked confused.

Her shoulders were grabbed aggressively. Conrad yelled, "Where is she? Where is Jillian?!"

"What the hell are you talking about?! She's not here! She lives by herself now! Get away from me, you jerk!" Hannah pushed Conrad away.

Another man's voice came from behind Hannah. "Sweetie, who's that?"

"Oh, this guy is Jillian's ex-husband. He's looking for her here. Seriously, Conrad, why did you cheat if you're going to be like this? Do you think that if you find her, show up gaunt and haggard like this, she'll come back to you? Dream on! Hmph."

Hannah was about to close the door when Conrad blocked it. "Tell me where she lives."

"Why would I tell you? Leave her alone! Honey, help me kick this trash away!"

Hannah's boyfriend came and pushed Conrad. "Go home, man. You're never getting an answer from us."

Bam!

The door closed with a bang.

Conrad stood frozen for a while. Jillian was gone, somewhere he didn't know. "Jillian… no, you won't get away from me…"

He was determined to bring her back. As long as she was within a place he could reach and always see, he would have a chance to convince her. Jillian was mad at him right now, but he knows she still loves him.

Conrad called someone, a private investigator, and hired him to search for his ex-wife.

Kaizer stood from the seat after the surgeon exited the operation room, still in scrubs and pulling down his mask as he approached Kaizer.

"Are you the family of the patient?"

"Yes," Kaizer answered without hesitation.

The doctor stared straight at him. "The surgery went well, and we managed to stabilize her. However, she suffered significant injuries, including internal bleeding, fractured ribs, a ruptured spleen, and a head injury. We repaired the damage to her spleen and stopped the internal bleeding, but our concern lies in her head injury."

Kaizer listened intently.

The surgeon continued, "She has a concussion, and we've found some swelling in the brain. Thankfully, there was no bleeding in the brain, which is a good sign, but we can never be certain until she wakes up. There are factors that only we can determine if she's conscious. For now, we've taken measures to reduce the swelling, but we still need to monitor her closely in the ICU."

"How serious is her head injury? When will she wake up, or will she even wake up?"

"Right now, it's difficult to say for sure how it will take for her to wake or if there will be long-term effects from the head trauma. The next 24 to 48 hours are critical as we watch for signs of improvement or complications. We can only hope that she will recover faster."

Kaizer just nodded.

The doctor asked, "May I know how you are related to the patient?"

Kaizer blinked. "…her husband."

"I see. Then, mister, I will need you to fill out some forms before you can see your wife in the intensive unit."

The doctor motioned to a nurse, then excused himself and left. Kaizer scratched his head. "Forms again…what a pain…"

He recalled the woman's husband and frowned. Where could that bastard be when his wife was sprawled on the grass dying?

Before the nurse could give him the forms he needed to fill out, he left the hospital and went home. He arrived not long after. Pressing the button on the 17th floor, he thought of what to say to that bastard.

"Should I just punch him?" Kaizer muttered as he stood before the same door where he left the green onions. That apartment building was owned by him, so it was easier for him to find out which unit she was living in.

It was also the first time he entered the security room and used his authority to find someone.

He pressed the doorbell. The door opened abruptly, and an angry voice echoed.

"How many times should I tell you—!... Who are you?"

Kaizer furrowed his brows. "Do you live here?"

"What…yes, I do."

Kaizer pursed his lips. "Who do you live with?"

"Why should I tell you? Who are you anyway?" Hannah frowned. She was a bit nervous because her boyfriend stepped out for a bit and now, she was alone. She should have known better to open her door to a stranger!

Kaizer was losing his patience. If only he knew the name of that woman, he could have asked her directly. He peeked inside, ignoring Hannah's frightened look.

Because of this, Hannah yelled, "I…I live with my husband!"

Kaizer's eyebrow twitched. "…your husband?"

"Yes!"

"I see…" his voice lowered and his eyes darkened. He whirled around with his hands balled into fists. "You've got a thrashy husband. Dump him."

Hannah was at a loss for words.

Kaizer received a call from Max stating that he found out who the woman was. "Her name is Jillian Martin, boss. Wife to the CEO of the CM Group. Shall I inform her husband about her situation?"

"…No. Make sure no one will find out she's still alive and, in the hospital, right now. Conceal her whereabouts and find out where she lives."

"I already did, boss. Not sure why, but she lives in a cheap apartment in B District."

"Go and pack all her things and send them to my house. Don't leave anything. I just found out that her husband had another wife, so, he can be a suspect in this accident. I'm going to hide her until she recovers, so, make sure no one will be able to find any trace of her until then."

"Yes, boss!"

Kaizer went back to the hospital. He watched the unconscious woman beyond the clear glass. "Haa… so much trouble for just liking your face. Once you wake up, Jillian, I will make you pay for everything you owe me."
