Ch 13: Evolution

We turn to face the smell emanating from the thicket of trees, from there we see a tall, muscular goblin it was around the size of an average human, after all I could tell that it was an evolved goblin.

The thing was carrying a large stick as a weapon and it had rough leather draping its body, it had started eyeing us as its enemies after killing what I assume to be its comrade, then it charges us with no caution or vigilance.

Damn this thing is looking down on us, I'll show you that this will be your final mistake.

The goblin swings down its club at us its swing was mighty indeed but it contained no precision and was dodged, we then circle it and try to counterattack we bite it in its sides but its skin was too thick, we couldn't harm it that way, the goblin swings its club back catching my sister barely in its attack, she flew back and had landed roughly on her feet, she was limping slightly from the attack,

Crap, we can't fight it ordinarily as its skin is too tough, can we use body strengthening though?

I use body strengthening and attack the goblin, the goblin was surprised at the difference in my speed and power and it tries protecting itself by lifting is club, I circle around it and bite it in the side, it tried attacking me when I bit it but I had retreated.

The bite wound was shallow, it was a bite mark that didn't threaten its life at all, the goblin though was pained and was angry at me, it wanted revenge and was running to me.

I had deactivated body strengthening as it was too taxing to use for long, the difference in speed confused me which got it to land a hit one me, it hit me in my side with its club, I felt a few bones crack and blood in my mouth, sister had started running towards me but I shout to her.

"I'm fine! Keep focusing on the battle!"

She instantly regains her composure and faces the goblin, I start thinking of a plan I look around us and see just trees and the pond was behind us.

Seeing the pond gives me an idea.

"Sister! Aim for his tendons!"

"What are tendons?!"

"Just aim for the area behind his knees!"

"What are knees?!"

Goddamit she has no knowledge of modern medicine, how did I forget?!

"The place where his leg bends is the knee!"

She nods and waits for the goblin to get closer, as we were talking it was already getting close, I forced my self up and had gotten ready with her, we encircle the approaching goblin and activate body strengthening, the goblin tries to catch me with its club but I dodge it, my body was screaming in pain at that point so I was more sluggish than usual, I focus all my body strengthening on my mouth and I bite at its tendons my sister was also copying me, as its tendons were cut it falls down head first into the pond,it tries to get its self back up, but it can't as its legs were not working, I hold down its head to drown it, and after several minutes of flailing it stops moving.

I had absorbed its essence and upon doing so I had started feeling that my chest was full, I was at a power that I've never been at before but my chest was feeling full, I instinctively knew what this is.

I was going to evolve.

"Hey sister let's find a place that we can rest in."

She nods and we both start looking for a place to rest, we end up finding a large tree with a hollow part in it that we use as shelter, we lay there and although it was daytime I go to sleep.

I was somewhere weird, there was just white landscape as far as I could see, it was a place that was not a dream but something else, suddenly I see 4 foxes appear, they were not live, no these were all possible variations of myself.

They all stand there and I look at them looking at each one gives me a rough understanding of their abilities and so.

The first one was a completely white fox with blue eyes, looking at it made me know that it was a fox with ice abilities and water techniques, it was an alluring choice.

The second was a small fox the size of a mouse and with a long thin body that could fit in a pipe with the whites in its eyes being a dark shade of blue and its eye color being a light blue, it had the abilities of curses and possession of creatures, I was kind of put off because of all of the curses and possession so I was likely not to pick this one.

The third choice was a white fox with black fur on its feet till the midsection of its legs, red tips on its tail and green eyes, it had the ability of fire and lightning... those two affinities were each an affinity of my father and mother.

The fourth choice was a large black fox with glaring red eyes, its abilities were darkness and it possessed high physical strength, it can also start berserking when it gets enraged, this one was good for combat, but I felt scared from the berserking ability and its terrifying eyes.

I pondered which one I should pick, I had eliminated the second option as I thought it looked too confusing, I was pondering between the last three, I decided to remove the first option as I thought the third option was better than it and so remained two.

I pondered which one to pick and as I remembered my father and mother I had made a decision, I was going to pick the third option.

Upon making my choice all but the third option disappear into mist, I start feeling alienated from my body and then I was floating above my old body, I see it vanish into mist like the other options then I had starting seeing from a new angle, I was now inside the new body.

I wake up from that mysterious place and when I look at myself I see that my body really did change, I was feeling stronger than ever before and I was able to use my energy better than before.

Looking around I see that my sister was still asleep, so I had decided to leave quickly then return because after all how can I contain my excitement after just evolving.
